Headed To Dallas!
Ok guys. It's tuesday night and i just finished packing my bags a day early. Again, a HUGE thanks to everyone that made this possible. What a wonderful group of people to be associated with. The game is coming at a really good time for my wife and I as this past week has been especially hard for the two of us. Not sure why. It just kind of comes and goes like that. The pain and sadness is always there probably always will be there but most of the time I'm able to cope with it a lot better than I have over the last few days. But thats why I say the game is coming at a great time for the both of us. We really needed this and you guys made it possible. But I wanted to post just to let you guys know what my plans are upon arrival.
The flight is scheduled to arrive in Dallas somewhere around noon. So 1st things first, find a cab and haul ass to the very nice hotel you guys have provided me with.
My next stop will be to a store that sales school supplies as i plan to get some construction paper and make a couple of signs and hopefully get on t.v. One sign will be giving props to BTB. The other I'm saving for my baby girl.
My next stop........well, i really don't know. Just relaxing and enjoying ourselves I suppose. I'm sure I'll drink a beer or 15 sometime during the day. But i want to get a good nights sleep for the big day. Last year when I went to the Ravens game (which happened to be my 1st game at texas stadium) my flight came in the same day as the game and i was completely exhausted. So i want to be nice and fresh for game day so i can scream and yell like its a playoff game and not a preseason game.
Gameday.......Not really sure what I'm going to do all day since kickoff isn't until 7pm central time. I'm sure i will show up at the stadium a couple of hours early to take lots of pics and just walk around the place and check it out. I will try to report back to you guys the best i can on the pure awesomeness of the stadium. If there is anything anybody would like me to take a pic of just leave a comment below and I will be sure to get it for you.
There will be a lot of down time between the time we land and the game on the next day. I've only been to Dallas one other time so I need some suggestions for places to eat and place to go and do stuff. We will actually be staying in Arlington near the Stadium so if anybody has any suggestions please let me know.
Once again I just want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart and Tammy's as well. We only have two tickets but I can promise you Olivia will be there on my shoulders screaming "GO COWBOYS!!!!" Just as we used to do together around the house. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Now lets hope for a win even if it is preseason.

Paul, for Game-Day... I recommend pulling the shades and sleeping 'til noon.
Works for me!
Doomsday returns... Wade Phillips style.
I was at the Ravens game last year too
Hurt to see us loose but the farewell ceremonies for Texas Stadium really put it in perspective that it was more than just about that game.
Hope you have a great time at the game.
That's the spirit
I can scream and yell like its a playoff game and not a preseason game
Enjoy, and we’ll be watching to catch a glimpse of your signs.

Hey Paul...
Although I’m stationed out of state, I’m actually from Fort Worth and used to live/go to college at UTA in Arlington.. For how long, and where are ya’ll staying and I’ll be able to recommend ya pretty good places within walking distance from the hotel. You’ll like Arlington.. it’s a little more relaxed then Dallas is (Irving). Hell, if I were back on leave I would’ve scooped ya’ll up.. haha
Oh for beer… get yourself some Lone Star! ;)
Superbowl, or BUST.
Thanks for the update, Paul
I like your approach – take it all in and enjoy the whole experience. We’ll be looking for you on TV, although I have to warn you… With this bunch, someone will be breaking down every detail of your sign, what you elected to wear, volume of cheering. Look for a move-by-move account from MusicCityNorm at a minimum…

I'll leave that to Norm
The game starts at 2 am here, ends at about 5.30 and then I have to drive about 200 miles for a wedding scheduled for 10.30 am. I might post some stats about how often I fell asleep …
And that’s assuming I find a stream for the game somewhere.

Hey Paul
Enjoy the game. We hit the stockyards in Ft Worth last time I was in town for a game and had a good time. Really has that cowboy town feel and lots of bars and things to do.
Check out my movie - StandardsOfEthicalConduct.com
Good deal Paul
I’m in the Dallas area, but unfortunately I don’t know the Arlington area all that well, but I’m sure someone on here will be able to provide you with some good places to check out.

Get one of you and your wife smiling. That would be priceless.
The older I get, the better I was.
I'm so thrilled for you guys
It does my heart good knowing that we were able to help.
To eat, grab a cab and go to Mia’s (Tom Landry’s favorite Mexican place) or the Mansion on Turtle Creek (expensive, but worth it…very romantic).
For Bar-b-cue, I’d go to Stubbs or Sonny Bryan’s (legendary…c1910).
Other great Tex-Mex would include Papasito’s, Via Real (in Las Colinas…Mustang Grill’s there, too). My mom’s favorite is Fernando’s on Preston.
If you insist on staying in Arlington, just head down Collins St to Division St. More restaurants and bars than you can shake a stick at.

Arlington restaurants
After a quick call to my mom, she recommended the following in Arlington:
Mexican- Mercado Juarez, Miller Rd
Thai – Taste of Thai, Arkansas Ln
French – La Madeleine, Cooper St
Steak – Texas Land & Cattle, Copeland St
Seafood – Rockfish Grill, Cooper St
Abuelo’s & Pappasito’s also have chains in the area and are good mexican joints.
Enjoy!

Definately try Mercado Juarez
They have this machine in the center of the restaurant that makes homemade tortillas… one of my favorites…
Al’s Hamburgers – a good, family owned restaurant located off of Green Oaks/Collins is also good..
Texas Land & Cattle is good place if ya want a SLAB of meat… lunch specials are reasonably price… dinner can get a lil pricey
Superbowl, or BUST.
I miss
Homemade tortillas, and tamales at Christmas time…

Have fun, I too will be looking for your sign.
I have not seen these guys in person, would you please give us a physical description of anyone who stands out to you? I’m very interested in Doug Free, it has been said he is small but he looks big on TV.
Paul, I have a suggestion for Thursday
Go to the new stadium for a tour. I did that at Texas Stadium my first time there and I plan on doing it when I go down for the Thanksgiving game.
I think it’s only $12 or $15 per person, it’s my understanding they run every 15 minutes. It would just add to your experience down there.
Have a great time and I’m glad we could make this possible for you and your wife during this time of need for both of you.

+1
That’s what I’m going to do next wk with my dad for the niners game. Tour the stadium one day, then see a game there the next…perfect trip for a Cowboys fan. Btw, it’s $15 now that the field is installed and the stadium 99.9% complete.
And there’s an old-school El Chico restaurant on Collins just south of the stadium that’s got tasty margaritas and wonderful tex-mex. Perfect place to relax before gametime.
That's cool
I’ll have to check that out too when I get down there.

Paul
I live in Arlington, actually Mansfield which is Arlington south. There is a little place just southwest of the stadium called Fuzzy’s Tacos. We average one visit/week there. Great food and cheap beer and even better margaritas. Go there before the game if schedule permits.
I hate Dallas personally, too busy and snobbish. If you like a laid back atmosphere you need to go to the Stockyards in Ft. Worth. Get the chopped beef sandwich at Riscky’s BBQ, it melts in your mouth. You can walk around the stockyards and soak it in. My favorite place to go. Downtown Ft. Worth is cool also, just a little more congested.
If Mexican food is more your style, Joe T Garcia’s in Ft Worth is the best with, again, very good margaritas. Have fun
Fort Worth.... now you're talkin' ;)
Joe T’s definately… Texas de Brazile has $20 all you can eat lunch… usually about $60 a plate at night… and everyone loves them some Risky’s..
Superbowl, or BUST.
Sounds awesome paul!!!
Hope the game is everything you hoped and much more. The only picture I’d truly like to see would be the one mentioned above- you and your wife Tammy in the stands. Enjoy yourselves and have a great time!!!
Anyone got a direct line to Jerry?
This is the perfect PR opportunity for the Cowboys organization. My I wish we could get Rich D, Steven or Jerry a link to these threads. Nothing speaks more to the Cowboys family then what was done for Paul. GO COWBOYS! & GO COWBOYS FANS.
Alright now I am going to have to stop reading these threads at work. Its hard to choke back the tears of sadness and pride in a bullpen environment.
Bless you all & you are still in our thoughts, Paul.
I wrote in
to all those dudes about Paul and Tammy going to the game, and got nothing back. Oh well. Their loss – they could have met a special family and a real Super-Fan.

Very nice of you Dunk
It’s a shame Rich D or anyone else didn’t get back to you. I can imagine they probably receive a ton of email and snail mail though (at least, that is what I’m going to believe is their excuse.)

I spoke with the PR dept and gave them the run down. Got the usual “fax in your request” line so I did. Hopefully they come through with something.

They probably are deluged with requests throughout the year...
But how many fan-sites can claim such a following … and such a great team-effort on this?
Doomsday returns... Wade Phillips style.
So True DaliaLuke....
I can only Imagine any other Fan site banding together for a fellow member….I think this whole effort for Paul and his family is AWESOME!!!!!!
I can only imagine all the emotions that Paul must be feeling…But to some extent I do understand.
I lost my Dad on August 4th and it has been an emotionally draining experience….and he was 78 years old!!!! It was still a surprise for us but nothing near what Paul and his family have been through.
My Dad was my best freind and I talked to him on a daily basis.I miss him so much….I haven’t worked in nearly 3 weeks since he was first hospitalized. It has been really tough.
My Road trip buddy (who I’m travelling to tampa with next month) invited my wife,my brother and my mother to come to his condo in Myrtle beach this weekend….So we’ll be sitting in a Sports bar in Myrtle beach, looking for Paul in the crowd, and cheering on our beloved cowboys.
Dad wouldn’t have it any other way!

when my Italian grandfather passed away, I thought I'd return to a somber funeral...
And while everyone was of course hurting inside, the event had an unusual tone to it – as everyone was sharing funny stories about Grandpa Luke and how much he helped them, laughed with them, etc…
The comment: “he wouldn’t have it any other way” says it all … I hope you are really able to celebrate all the great memories! Not only is it therapeutic for you, but it’s also what they would want – all of you remembering all the best of times :)

We had
A great time watching the game at Overtime Sports bar in Myrtle Beach.
Awesome place to watch a Game….It’s been a tough couple of weeks, but had a great time watching my beloved cowboys roll to a big win in their
new diggs.
can’t wait to check it out for myself on Sept.20th!!!!

God bless you and your family. Regardless of the final score, this already goes as a “W” in my book for everyone making this happen and for you guys getting to enjoy the experience.
Know that we are there with you and hoping you have an absolute blast.
Have a blast Paul and Tammy
You two certainly deserve this. I’ll be looking for you on the TV and looking forward to seeing your pics when you get back.

I kinow this guy named Jerry Jones
and everytime he flew through Dallas on business after the REAL Jerry Jones bought the team and fired Landry, his seats would get cancelled and his luggage would end up in another country. Must have happened eight times to him.

If yu bump into Romo
Tell him:
- Terry still hearts him
- Tex is proud of him for dumping Jessica, but wants a LOT more detail on his physique
- BakedPotatoSoup hopes for the best but has serious doubt starting 1 Dec
- Squidlo would like long-snapper tips if he could hook him up with JP
- whatthecrap is still struggling with his jersey choice (but don’t tell him Tony didn’t make the top 10!)
- DalaiLuke sends good karma and a concubine from Bangkok his way
- Dunkman advises that is he sees Procter on the field, hide behind the water cooler and let Kitna take the beating
Enjoy yourselves Paul and Tammy!

The thing is – after the game we are still with you every day! Please keep in touch and post when you can.
Paul, just saw on DMN Blog
that parking will be bad, they suggest getting there at least 4 hours prior to game time.
In Romo we Trust
I've got a question:
What’s to stop folks from just parking at the Walmart across the street from the Stadium?
Why should I pay $40 for the cash lot a mile away when I can just park at Wally World?
How Bout Them Cowboys!
Walk a mile????
What country do you live in???

Because
Apparently Wal-Mart is charging $35 to park.

Still cheaper than the parking pass I got on eBay
And a heck of a lot closer.
I’m kinda pissed.

Do you think
they check your receipt on the way out of the parking lot?
