The goods and bads of losing T.O.
This is my first time posting on this blog so be nice...
We all know that T.O. is gone. Most of the people in Dallas cheered, screamed, and loved the fact that Jerry showed him the boot! While it is great that the 'Boys got rid of this cancer, it could also hurt us on the field.
This post does a very good job of discussing that fact.
In the end it all depends on how well the other WRs play, and if someone will truly step up in Owens' absence. I think the person that needs to do that is Patrick Crayton, but we will see.
What do you guys think? Will someone be able to pick up the slack? Can a TE be our leading receiver?
I apologize if this topic has been beat to death...I'm new...

It's cool...
but it has been beaten to death lol.
I think things can be fine. I think that a double TE set will be used alot and you’ll hopefully see some creativity from Garrett.

It's been covered a bit, but no problem
My take is the 3 RB’s along with Bennett and Austin will pick up any slack in production. Not that Roy W won’t play a big role, he just won’t have to duplicate TO’s 2007 numbers for this revamped offense to be successful. Plus we still have the best TE in the NFL to keep opposing DC’s up at night.
Training Camp '09 = Mega Thunder Dome....80 men enter, 53 men leave.
I'll second that, welcome, NCSAR.
I’m really hoping to see a lot of the 2 TE set, since I think the pairing of Witten and Bennett can help fill TO’s shoes. Not to mention clear some space for the backs to run and get involved in the passing game.

we won't miss T.O.
the Cowboys have plenty of offensive talent and one of the best qbs in the league pulling the trigger
In Romo we Trust
We will miss T.O. on the field
We won’t miss him in the locker room.

The Key To The Boys Post-T.O. Success is.....
…the runningbacks!
The dream scenario would be for Felix Jones to become the featured back with MBIII to be the short yardage and forth quarter stud. Tashard would spell Felix in the first thru third quarters. Last year with the injuries to the backs and so much focus put on the passing game, defenses were pretty much teeing off on the quarterback.
Tony had to rely heavily on Witten, and that much exposer led to Jason taking a lot of punishment as well.
So again, the wide receivers will be just fine as long as the running game is featured and solid!!! O-line get ready, we’re going to ride your backs to the big dance this year.!!!!
The Cowboys will miss the TO from 2006-2007
We will be just fine watching the current TO in Buffalo this season though.
"Goods and bads"
Silliness.
But I’m certain the pros outweigh the cons in the long run. Might hurt in the immediate future, but not enough to warrant keeping the guy. Plenty of playmakers to step up in the passing game. All the receivers, TEs, and RBs we have can make plays in the passing game. No worries.
Epic Fail since 1985
The Answer is not the Receivers or the Running Backs it's the Offensive Line!
Doesn’t matter who is catching, throwing, or receiving the ball; if the their is no time to see the field, allow routes to develop, or no holes to run threw, the Cowboys will struggle. From what I have been reading, and I know it’s early, I am not optimistic about our chances producing a strong offensive attack or of Romo staying healthy, not to mention lowering those INT numbers.
T.O. is, with out a doubt, a great talent as his the numbers through out the years has shown. However is a disruption to the concept of team with his “I love me some Me attitude”. T.O. Is a guy who loves the media spotlight, and the media in their search for sensationalism loves him in return. They may bad mouth him on all the Monday morning QB shows, but in reality they love him and would much rather see him drop a bunch of passes or yell on the sidelines than see him get 10 catches for 200 yards. Personally for me, I feel like we have lost something that will hurt our offense, but we have gained something that will help the team.
Just calling it as I read it and my opinion is always open to change based on the evidence at hand.
in all games aside from philly, baltimore, pitt last year
our offense, when led by romo, produced a solid enough attack to have us in position to win. I don’t think we scored under 20 points in any of the remaining games under Romo. The offensive line for the most part played very well in games aside from those 3.
I don’t see what evidence there is aside from training camp that we won’t produce a strong offensive attack
T.O. not who he once was
I honestly am beginning to believe that Owens, within the next two years, will retire from the NFL or honestly, he will fade away. There were countless times last year where I saw that he struggled. We already know his hands have always been questionable, and he never was the fastest of the WR, but what gave him his advantage was his ability to beat press coverage whenever he felt like it, as well as his YAC ability. And it just seemed like too often last year(Packers game, Philly games, Skins games) he was mismatched against corners and really struggled to beat press coverage. If it wasn’t for the Niners secondary being horrible, and him putting him ridiculous numbers, he wouldn’t have had nearly as good of numbers. If we were to set the Niner numbers to his average in every other game, Owens overall would have had 889 yards. That’s with the group of Mushin Muhammad, Kevin Walter, Jerricho Crotchrey, Owen Daniels(TE), and Braylon Edwards. While not a bad group, certainly not top of the line.
Not as good as he once was...
But as good once as he ever was.
