Our GUTLESS Quarterback

Sorry Terry, but I’m freaking done with gutless, choke-artist Tony Romo. Everything the national media, the local media, and the fans from other NFC cities says is right: he’s a chump who folds like a gutless coward in big games.

He may go on to a great career, but I’m done with him. I’m now on the outside of the Tony Romo bandwagon.

No

I hate Winnie as much as the next guy, but the defense had to deal with ridiculous situations against a tough team with nothing but short fields.

And the defense kept them out of the end zone several times.

This team had chances to blow it open, and romo gave them all back to the NYG.

The defense cannot be expected to play perfectly and hold opponents to no yards. However, the F’ing QB CAN be expected to not carelessly turn the ball ove again, and AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Only six defensive backs active, Justin Tuck and Chris Canty out, Hixon out…and they still beat us. Pretty pathetic.

It’s the same old story. Mental mistakes galore, and you can always count on Wade defenses giving up a killer drive at the end of a half. Happens like clockwork.

Do we really miss Chris Canty that much? Way to start the year while playing for a contract, Ware!

Romo just chokes at the worst of times. I don’t like how he plays in games like this. Not the kind of “Legend” you want. We used to poke fun at Eli and his dumbo look. He gets the last laugh! Archie is rightly very proud of his boys.

This has the makings of another disappointing season if the defense can’t stop anyone.

I said at the end of last year that I would give Romo the first four games of this year to show he's progressing

as an NFL quarterback, but after what I saw tonight, he’s the same quarterback I’ve seen for three years now, and he’s not the answer for this team getting to and winning any post season games. As far as I’m concerned, Tony is nothing more than a average quarterback

Completely True

My research into quarterbacks similar to Romo led me to believe he would actually be a little worse this year than he was last year. And last year he just a little above average.

very frustrating

but there was actually a lot of positive to take out of this game. we can’t turn the ball over 4 times and expect to win against a team like the giants. but the fact that we turned it over 4 times and almost pulled out a win says a lot of other things were going right. this goes back to what we’ve been saying all offseason, this team can be dominant if they just clean up the game-changing mistakes, especially romo. easier said than done, obviously, but still I’m always a glass half full guy and despite the loss a lot of areas looked good, especially the run game and red zone D, and one more play bounced our way we coulda had it.

by scottmaui on Sep 20, 2009 10:58 PM CDT reply actions

there were a ton of positives

What many thought were the best team in the nfc (giants) needed Romo to sh** the bed to even be in the ballgame. We played one of our best overall games in a while. Kinda like the Pitt game.

Romo just hasn’t been the same since the injury against arizona, hes had terrible problems with accuracy in Washington, Pitt, Baltimore, wasn’t good against philly, started slow against T and was terrible against the GIants. He just does not look comfortable back there anymore…

Turnover cost us the game...

You can’t win -4 in the turnover ratio. We had shabby tackling in the secondary both our young corners got exposed. Romo was off this game but we got our hands on some balls some passes as well that we didn’t convert to turnovers and the biggest number? 0.. ZERO sacks.

You can blame Romo if you want to because he played like crap. But this is a team sport and if our defense doesn’t fix the poor tackling and the soft zone in the middle it aint going to get any better

Romo sucked, the D sucked, the Cowboys sucked. Take that loss and chew on it for a bit. Even the worse teams in the league have sacks… or a pick…. or a forced fumble… or, you know.. a defense in general

very well. Tony can’t help that. WT heck is the defense with turnovers? Tony giftwrapped a couple, but the defense went tits up too. If not for Ratliff the defense would have been abysmal.

we got gashed last week on rushingdefense. so we work hard all week to make sure we stop the run. we ask more of our CBs. we figure, we have three elite CBs – this is how teams do it – this is how they stop the run , stop the pass, and become a dominant d – so we ask more of our CBs and they go out and crap the bed. the question is, what corrections tdo wee tak this week.

OK guys calm down...

Bleah. We played poorly. No doubt.

And yet….

They couldn’t run on us or stop the run.
They had three weird bounces that all went their way (any one of which if it goes the other way and we probably win)
We had a lead despite a -4 turnover ratio with 3:40 to play….
Against one of the best teams in the NFL

One stop. One stop away from winning a game we played wretchedly in.

Guys… I’m here to say right now that you can jump off the bandwagon if you want, but don’t come back and say I knew they were good all along when they do well later on.

So far, the Cowboys have scored 65 points, 32.5 points per game, despite not having a single turnover created or really big field position play on special teams. I don’t know if they’ve started a single drive inside the opponent’s 50. Think on that for a second and then remember that we’ll get some of those breaks later on.

Felix comes back
Kosier comes back
Bennett steps forward
Williams is here
TO is not
Olshansky for Canty
Sensabaugh for Williams
Jenkins/Scandrick for Henry
DeCam for Read

All of these are either improvements or switches.

I knew last year’s team was going to struggle with the safety play. This year, the safety play has been OK.

I knew the offense would struggle some because it got focused. This year, this is a great offense. We’re going to average around 28ppg and that’s awesome.

Different team.

Williams was here last year, and replaces T.O, the locker room cancer
Olshanky is a push
Snsabaugh, upgrade over the cardboard cutout back there for the last four years

by Kevdog on Sep 20, 2009 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Well....

I’m actually relatively sanguine about that. Wade Phillips has a track record of good defenses. They’re starting slowly yes, but do we really think Ware et.al. are going to go without 50 sacks this year?

….and a father named Archie! Hard not to improve your game, when you have those two guys to learn from. I think Eli has really come of age. by foyesboys on Sep 20, 2009 11:51 PM CDT up reply actions

It's funny

As some of you guys have pointed out already, if a bounce or two comes your way, the ’Boys win going away, TOs and all.

And instead you’d all be writing about how resilient your team was to have overcome all that adversity.

From my (the Giants) side of the fence, it’s a good thing we won ‘cause otherwise the meltdown in Giants Nation would make the gloomy talk goin on here tonight seem like a child’s birthday party.

Other than the final score, not a whole lot for us Giant fans to be happy about. The supposed strengths of our team – the running game and the defensive line – played like dogmeat tonight. If those things don’t get fixed quick fast in a hurry, the Giants will be little more than a 9-7 team this year.

You guys, OTOH, have a lot to build on going forward. Your running game looks like it’s at an elite level. Yes, Eli and our young WRs were able to exploit your secondary and your own lack of a pass rush (perhaps Ware needed Canty to occupy blockers last year more than anyone really knew) But if Romo can learn to be more of a “game manager” and less of a gunslinger, you should be able to control the clock in lots of games and take some pressure of your D.

As I said earlier, I’m happy the Giants won… but I’m not feeling all that pleased at how they looked in doing it.

Just my .02 as a Giants fan…

We still almost won

even with the three picks, so it’s not all that bad. I’m more worried about MBIII’s injury at this point. We need all three of our backs this season.

We just physically manhandled the giants

we needed one of the worst 4 qb performances from romo’s 40 game career to lose this one.

I don’t feel too much differently about our chances now than before – but we need to right this ship immediately

We’re definitely a physical team on both sides of the ball, you can’t argue that after the way we shut down Jacobs and ran the ball.
But, where the HELL is our pass rush. Or pass coverage. Or pass offense.

Interesting. The radio callers are crapping on Romo, and Larry

Brown is hammering the D. Lack of safety help for the corners, lack of QB pressure, lack of turnovers, lack of Kevin Burnett.

Hey, look on the bright side

at least your team actually, like, scores once they get inside the 20.

That’s a feat the Giants have not managed to accomplish even once this year.

Dude

I’m not here to troll… so don’t misconstrue my posts as rubbing it in.

I’m simply trying to make the point that Dallas outplayed my boys tonight and should never have lost the game. We could not run the ball – but you did. We could not stop the run – but you did. We could not score TDs inside the red zone – but you did.

Sadly for your ’Boys, the outcome was decided by TOs…. as it so often is. Unfortunately, relying on the other team to turn the ball over four times in a game is not a sustainable long term strategy. At some point, you need to take charge of your own destiny and punch the ball in when you have the opportunity. That the Giants have shown themselves utterly incapable of doing so worries me greatly.

Just sayin’

Stick a fork in Romo

He is the same kid who was over his head when we first saw him play the Giants a few years back.

Aikmans and Staubachs don't exactly grow on trees.

Ask the 49ers if they’ve ever recovered from not having Montana and Young. How long did it take Pittsburgh to replace Bradshaw?

by onepaniolo on Sep 21, 2009 12:03 AM CDT up reply actions

We don't need Aikman on this team...

a good game manager would suffice. Just someone who doesn’t become the MVP for the other team is all I ask.

Romo's Press Conference

I don’t like his interviews. He always sounds defensive and insincere, like he’s forcing himself to say cliches to placate his audience. In the midst of taking the blame for his mental mistakes tonight, he had to slip in that he’s “improved in a lot of areas”.

Tony, when you suck, just come right out and say it. No big deal. But trying to tell everyone you’re improving when you lay an egg just looks delusional.

One thing I complimented Romo on last year...

was his accuracy.

Now, I think he is just inconsistent. He no longer qualifies as accurate in my book.

Plus, the slow starts are just mental. He’s a loser until proven otherwise.
