Looking Into the Future of the Defensive Line
Just a little speculation just for some fun. I have heard that we need to have a little bit more depth on the defensive line, or for the most part at least at the Nose tackle position so that we aren't overworking Jay Ratliff, maybe even moving him outside to the Defensive end position on the first couple downs and moving him back to his Nose Tackle position in passing situations because of his ability to push the pocket in the middle and disrupt the quarterback. I believe our units as of right now are capable of getting the job done but we can always get better. Hard to do that as of right now with the cap room being eaten up by all of the people that we had released in the offseason and not much more cap space to sign anyone else. However, at the end of the season we will start fresh and have over $12 million in cap space back to sign more players (pending the contract negotiations with Ware). I see two players that could potentially help out in that department when the offseason comes around. I just wanted to see what the BTB public thought of these prospects.
DE Richard Seymour - We have seen this guys play before and is a reliable option at the Defensive end position and can also play any position on the line as you may have seen when the Raiders played the Chargers in week one. He has experience as well as 3 Super Bowl rings so he can provide some leadership to our defense. I bring him up because as you may well know that he was recently traded to the Raiders and is in the final year of his contract. He has talked with them about not being franchised and getting a new deal done but they have made no promises. It is quite possible this guy will be on the market in the off-season and looking for a place to possibly finish his career. Most likely he wants to be somewhere where he can still win a potential championship, and Dallas is one of those teams.
DT Terrence Cody - This is one of those guys that you can refer to as a mountain of a man. He measures 6' 5" and around 350 lbs. As a senior this year for the Alabama Crimson Tide, he will most likely be a first round prospect in this years draft but would be able to serve as a reliable option as a Nose Tackle in non passing situations as a NT in a 3-4 scheme should be a clogger and a guy that commands a double team because of shear size and will cause people to run the ball in other directions because of his ability to clog the middle of the trenches. He would provide us with a possibly reliable option to rotate with Jay Ratliff or play in place of Jay at Nose and move Jay to the Left Defensive End position.
Hey, I don't want to take the focus off of this year with it but hey, speculation is something that we all do and with our defense being already capable and possibly being able to get a hold of one of these guys would only improve things, then why not get excited about the possibilities. Can't wait to see the defense we have right now actually step up though and live up to their ability and what we know that they are capable of.

Terrence Cody by far
I like what Seymour would bring but he is a DE and if we have that monster in the middle Rat can take Spears spot as DE then have Igor, Cody, Rat for our line

An unproven Cody would simply be gassed...
…by season’s end. Just a fat man who fills the middle with his fat frame and very little athletic ability to go with. That won’t work in the NFL but even if he did come around it would take him a few season to do so. By then other members of this Dallas D would be getting old.
A line up of Seymour, Rat, & Igor would be VERY solid. An end like Seymour would open the entire world for D-Ware. I know the general consensus is to always believe that rookie will come in here and take the world over but believe it or not free agent acquisitions do also sometimes work.

The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.
