Announcing for the Vikings is brutal

I thought that last year on NFL Network that they would switch the announcing team at halftime to the other team. I wish they would do that for this game, because Mayock is a great talent analyst but an awful color guy on the game broadcast. The play by play guy is not great either. For such a boring game, it would be great listening to some guys with talent.

Watkins knocks off DeAngelo Smith?

Though I doubt we’ll have trouble sneaking either Cincy guy onto the PS.

It’s against scrubs. But Rosenfels has been a starting QB in the league.

Buehler

It is great to have a reliable kick off guy now, I was tired of watching the other team get great starting field position so easily. Everytime we score, it seems we hand the other team an easy touchdown, and their starting field position was a big contributor to that.

4th and Long Gone....

What a great way to end a dream… You know Holley has virtually no chance of making the roster, and many think this is his last shot at the NFL, but how many of you guys were yelling your heads off when he picked up that punt and took it to the house… I am not ashamed to say that I was.

Did you see the Cowboys along the sideline cheering him on????

Holley has got to be feeling 10 feet tall tonight bringing home the winning touchdown.

It’s a shame it will most likely end for him tomorrow.

It's exactly what they said on the Irvin show today

At this point, you have to take the ball – even if it isn’t for you. Stanback heard “Peter” and instead of following the instinct pounded into all of us since flag football, he grabbed the ball and displayed some serious athleticism. I won’t be surprised if somebody picks him up – if only for the practice squad.

My sense is I’ll get flamed for this, but here goes:

Shouldnt a 2nd kicker on the roster be reserved for guys who bang it through the back of the endzone 9 times out of 10 rather than once in a blue moon? i know guys on here are pretty stoked about him, and he’s been the focus of one or more articles on here about how much he is helping ST, but man I must have bad luck, because i’m not sure i’ve seen him even put one in the endzone at all … just sayin’

by Elberraco on Sep 4, 2009 10:23 PM CDT reply actions

Am I alone in thinking Rudy Carpenter will become a viable backup?

I know it was vs. the bottom of the Minn roster, but he hasn’t gotten many reps and he was also playing with the bottom of the roster.

I have to say he looked pretty good. Very natural.

Watkins has 9 lives.

C.Brown and D.Smith looked horrible! Even Mickens made some nice plays, but those two might as well be cut.
McQ also needs to go away. Let Free play swing tackle until the Cowboys sign a FA after week 1.

If this was Stanback’s last shot, he failed badly. I’d keep Ogletree and Manny Johnson over him.

I like Butler

But he cannot play the run at all. Plus he isn’t very good in coverage. It will take him some time.

Still, he’s a good tackler and ST guy (plus he’s not injured), and is fast off the corner when he got the chance to pin back his ears and rush the QB (although he ran himself out of a few plays by doing that)

If he had some tough SOBs on the inside to help him out

he would look alot better against the run. My guess is he’s still used to play forward like a DE instead of back and react like a LB

The season begins in 3...2...

That would explain

why he was pretty good as the SOLB.

So who thinks now even if the Cowboys do keep 6 receivers, they keep Manny Johnson over Stanback? I think Stanback’s role on ST can be replaced easily, he hasn’t done much to deserve a roster spot, let a new team pick him up to give him a fresh start, I don’t think he’ll accomplish anything here.
