Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Two Waiver Wire Candidates

One team's trash is another team's treasure - there are a few back up spots we could potentially bolster with a couple of waiver wire pick-ups.  Would love to get Jack...

Star-divide

No. 1  CB:  Jack Ikegwuonu.   (Eagles)

This guy could have been a first day, even first round draft pick if not for the serious injury before the draft which meant he would be out his whole rookie year.  The Eagles still thought enough of him to draft him last year - but he didn't make the cut this year.    Seem a rash cut to me - he was essentially stil a rookie.  It was somewhat of a surprise, he was close to making the team.   Only a 2nd year player - so still good potential to develop.  It would make up for the disappointment of Brown and the Cincy guys.  And it would have the added bonus of pissing off the Eagles - as they want to get him back on the PS.

If they feel like Jack is too much of a risk and they need more of veteran fall-back, Evan Oglesby was cut by the Ravens, they know him well, but in his 4th year less potential upside....

No. 2  NT:  DT Terdell Sands (Raiders)

6-7 and 340 pounds.  Raiders just signed a 4 year deal with him, but he wasn't generating enough bang for the buck.  Tried to shop him around, but no buyers at that price.  Could fill the hole, especially on run downs, won't get the penetration of a Ratliff (but then who does).  Although as one article pointed "when Oakland quits on you for your work ethic, that's not a good sign."

Back-up Center is another position, but figure they need to give Duke due consideration.

Both sound good

I liked Jack coming out of college, he was rated as a 3rd rounder, Oglesby was everyones pet cat and Sands has the size, great job finding them

But I think he was rated as a 3rd round AFTER the injury

Eagles took him in the 4th knowing he was going to sit out the entire 2008 season.

Given he was considered 4th round material injured gotta be pretty confident he would have been a first day pick healthy….

Don't like Sands as a NT

too tall, need a shorter lower center of gravity to play NT, larger base to get leverage, at 6’7, hard to get under offensive linemens pads for leverage

I think Oglesby is more of a safety now.

I liked him coming out but knee injury and Probably character issues with Ikegwuonu will end any chance of him coming here. Would have to do a serious background check on him if they bring him in

Not true

He was more productive shading the nose earlier in his career. That’s when he got his deal.

His issue is work ethic.

Ryan Fowler

got cut by tennessee and could be a good addition as a backup ILB and strong on Special Teams….if James or Brooking got hurt I would much rahter see him starting than barbie carpenter

I tossed up Fowler

Almost put him in as the 3rd candidate, but I think the team is committed to giving Barbie his last shot – and a little time to Williams as well where possible.

I wasn’t sure how he performed on special teams – as a veteran they sometimes haven’t got much recent experience or fire in the belly for ST. If he is a strong ST guy as you say then he may warrant consideration.

Agree

After the 1st game, Fowler might be a good pick up. He could back up James and play ST, where he excelled for us.

I like Sands...

He could really add some needed bulk along that front 3, especially in short yardage situations.

Have Siavii, Bowen and Hatcher really done enough to make us not want an upgrade?

Neither sounds good

Jake has knee issues and Sands is too big to play NT.

Olgesby at CB and Lee Robinson at ILB sounds good about now.

What about
DB Tra Battle,
DT Shaun Smith or Terreance Taylor cut Siavi
LB Beau Bell or Darry Beckwith cut Proctor
OT Jaomon Meredith or Pashos cut MCQ
C Justice cut Duke (questionable)

Paris Lenon seems to small, but may be worth a look for the experience, and he may be able to fill the role that Burnett had last season.

why cut Siavii??

He’s been pretty solid since the Oakland game where he spent most of the time in that game blocking the ground..

Tra Battle?

The same Tra Battle who got run over by the Ravens punter last year?

by Joon on Sep 7, 2009 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd bring in Jack Ikeg for a check up on the knee

If he passes that, it would be worth a shot.

Sands is big but lazy, not sure he’d be any better than Siavii.

Couple OT’s who I’d rather have than McQ: Wesley Britt, Ryan O’Callaghan

Couple CB’s – Ogelsby, Corey Ivy

I would really like us to bring in ILB Lee Robinson.

I was reading the Broncos blog and many of them were surprised he didnt make their practice squad. They thought he would be the first person signed.

That could be a red flag

Maybe there’s something they know that others don’t
