I don't condone violence.

But I can’t say that I don’t understand the sentiment.

And Apparently Richard Seymour

Has been traded to the Raiders for a first round 2011 pick.

Both headlines are equally shocking, although Merriman’s behavior is inexcusable.

by kindablue on Sep 6, 2009 1:06 PM CDT reply actions

maybe we can trade Proctor to the raiders for a second rounder

they are thee most disfunctional franchise in the league, what a ridiculous trade….

by Deke on Sep 6, 2009 1:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Goodell Should Ban Trades Between

The smartest organization in the league, and the dumbest. The Raiders in 2011 will probably still be a ten-loss team, and only got an aging lineman in return. Yikes.

Reason, that debate is long gone, thank god for dware, and thank god for jerry taking him before spears.

On a side note, last week at the game I was tailgating outside of where the cowboys drove in, I just have one question, why was miles austin drivin a mazzerati? 1 year 2.5, save up buddy, u never know.

by TONYINCC on Sep 6, 2009 1:07 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

tony drove

A black 2 door 6 series bmw, he rolled his window down and said what’s up to everyone. Ken hamlin drove his black corvetter stupid in the middle of the road to greet the fans. Marcus spears had a classic car that was awesome.

Someone, had a red challenger u could hear from a mile away, I’m really curious to know who was driving.

As galloway says “he lost a race to a white kicker”, lol

Man after reading that story, and all the troubles pro athletes get into with alcohol and driving. Why don’t they hire flippin drivers, I mean they jeopordize so much by taking that chance, why? Same with plastico, hire a damn body gaurd. Sheesh, those guys aren’t getting paid for their brains, that’s for sure.

Guess there's something to be said about "character" after all.

Anyone still wish we’d drafted Merriman instead of D. Ware?

"We'll see." --Bill Parcells

by Uncle Angus on Sep 6, 2009 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

Parcells Wanted Merriman

Over Ware, but Jerry overruled him. Parcells also wanted Spears over Ware, and Jerry won that argument, too.

Thank goodness on both counts, although King William couldn’t draft an offensive lineman to save his life, and had this bizarre obsession with punt returners (see Skyler Green).

by kindablue on Sep 6, 2009 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Good on Jerry then. On both counts as you say.

As GM he should get the best advice he can and delegate where he can. But ultimately the decision is his in that situation. I’m glad he overruled Parcells and I’m glad Demarcus has shown to be the player he seemed to have the potential to be. Merriman’s first season was a monster, but in the long run Ware will prove to be the more solid and stable player.

"We'll see." --Bill Parcells

by Uncle Angus on Sep 6, 2009 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions

actually, that's not correct

I heard Mike Francesa on WFAN, who is a very good friend of Bill Parcells told Dogg on the air that Merriman was never going to be selected by Dallas in the draft the Monday after the draft, mike said Bill told him, he didn’t like his character/attitude..

by Deke on Sep 6, 2009 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I seem to remember that too...

But I’ll give credit to Jerry no matter who in the organization made the final say… they’re his guys.

I give thanks every day that Matt Millen who was clueless in Detroit for taking Mike Williams

I was sure Detroit would take Ware right before us, you know Jerry liked Mike Williams, who sat out a year after trying to declare early with Clarett, what a bust they both turned out to be, Williams in Detroit, Clarett in Denver….

by Deke on Sep 6, 2009 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Deke,

True, 34-32 and Francesa are old Saratoga Springs horse racing buds. But you had to admin, there were conflicting reports on that story coming out of Dallas.

I don’t remember that exact episode, but did Big Bill say that before or after we drafted him?

by Road Warrior on Sep 6, 2009 2:47 PM CDT up reply actions

It Was Afterwards

When Parcells could polish up his image. No surprise that a good friend of King William, with no loyalty to Jones, would claim that it was Parcells’ idea.

by kindablue on Sep 6, 2009 3:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Francesa told Dogg the friday before the draft

that he would tell Dogg something about Dallas and a particular player in the draft on Monday. They wre talking about what dallas would do with their two picks, Dogg thought they would trade up, and when they were running through the top fifteen and what each team would select, Dogg thought Mike Williams and Merriman would be cowboys their selections if they didn’t trade up. That’s why I made plans to listen to the show Monday after the draft to see what player mike was referring too with regards to Dallas. Bill also Told Mike, that he thought Merriman was more of a defensive end than linebacker.

Dallas liked Spears and Ware, the question was who could they select first and would the other guy fall enough for them to trade up, that was the issue for them, Merriman was a smoke screen from day one. After Dallas decided to take Ware, they spent the rest of the time tryingt to trade up to get spears, nobody would trade with them and Spears fell into their laps.

by Deke on Sep 6, 2009 3:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Interesting....

Living in NY, I listen to him (used to be them) all the time, and I never heard it said either before or after (I obviously missed that show)..

Doesn’t it seem odd that Mike (Francesa) would leak that info on the air before the draft?

by Road Warrior on Sep 6, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

i remember merriman saying that we told him

To be ready because we were going to draft him…

Whatever you think

of this woman, any big guy who thinks he has to choke a little gal is a punk, pure and simple.

Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.

by OskieOskie on Sep 6, 2009 3:57 PM CDT reply actions

For me personally, the word “punk” is on the light side of exactly what Merriman is (this of course is assuming the story is true). Unfortunately, I don’t think Grizz would like the words I would use to describe him.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Grizz doesn't bother with us Peons anymore

If not for the Foster bloggers ( you know who you are) that he put in place for us I would be falsely built up by DC.com and shot down by ESPN.

Or what was left of it anyway.

by APerfectStar on Sep 6, 2009 5:16 PM CDT reply actions

One must remember that Ware was from a small school and Merriman already was getting lots of press. Unitl the combine Ware was a late first rd pick. Then he destroyed the combine and shot up the ladder. It was clear by the draft we could not wait until 20 to pick him; so we took him at 11. There were already hints about Merriman and roids, and then of course the Postons as agents.

by burmafrd1944 on Sep 6, 2009 7:17 PM CDT reply actions

Here we go again with that "punk" word that everyone throws around so loosely.

I don’t know what happened but I saw the word “allegedly” in the post. So until “allegedly” turns into a conviction or an admission, I will refrain from calling him anything other than the name his mother gave him. Even if he did do it, I have a really tough time calling another grown man a punk. I don’t know why everyone else is so comfortable with throwing that word around so carelessly.

I also think that we as fans worry way too much about what guys are doing off the field.

OBSERVATION - EMOTION = COMMON SENSE

by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Sep 6, 2009 9:23 PM CDT reply actions

I will agree that my above post was a little heated. This is based off the fact that I have a special place of dislike (to put it lightly) for those men who hit, choke, etc. a woman. Hopefully tomorrow I will wake up and this whole situation will have been some misunderstanding. At that point I will fully accept being in the wrong for judging too quickly.

However, if this arrest stands up, I will still have absolutely no problem calling him a “punk.” You do not ever assault or attempt to hurt a woman, no matter the issue. That to me represents some of the lowest behavior out there and to me, the second you put a hand on a woman like that you forfeit your right to any respect other than that doled out by our justice system.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Sep 7, 2009 2:12 AM CDT up reply actions

stand your ground man...

I reserve the right to call any man a punk whether he hit a woman, kills dogs because they can’t win a fight…he’s a punk…punk punk punk …punk punk punk….

I know you don't use the work punk lightly

But if anyone is a punk, it’s Merriman. Ok, maybe Brandon Marshall too.
