Miles Austin missed practice today due to his hamstring issue. Deon Anderson is back at Valley Ranch and could be ready to play on Sunday.

From the DMN blog:

FB Deon Anderson dressed out for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Aug. 13. The Cowboys are optimistic that he'll be able to play in the season opener.

"We'll see," Anderson said. "Hopefully."

huh, just trow the guy in there?

sounds like some missed asignments, blocks and maybe a penalty or two to me!

Austin injury was minor

he was held out only as a precaution from the last preseason game.

I think he just lied!

?

Wade isn’t the guy treating the hamstrings

and hammys are notoriously tricky.

This is what I don’t get — people get ANGRY at players for getting hurt. I don’t understand that. If Austin was getting drunk and was not in condition, I can see going off. But guys get hurt. He got hurt last year because a Bronco put a helmet on his knee. I doubt Austin did that on purpose.

Who's mad?

Who said it was his fault? Hey, I’m accually glad that it may give Ogletree a shot that he might not other wise get. What he does with it will determine in to what his future may or may not be.

As for Wade, No he doesn’t diagnose injuries, but despite what he does or doesn’t say in press conferences, he is aware of the time line when a player will be able to start practicing!

He's the head coach

He might want to check with the medical staff before every press conference on the injury status of his players since it’s going to be a question that going to be asked by the media everyday.
just to name a few,

Terry Glenn, day to day, misses most of the season
next year, terry Glenn coming along nicely in spring, then cut

Greg Ellis, day to day in training camp after coming back from Achilies injury, misses first three weeks of the season.

Tony Romo, broken finger, thinks he can play, misses three weeks

Austin, kept out as precautionary, ready to go. now missing practices.

The first thing at the beginning of every press conference, wade should have a breakdown of every injury on his team, and stop giving his opinion on the injuries of his players, he’s horrible at his diagnosis…

what?

are you Miles Austin’s autobiographer or an odds-maker in vegas? If not, wtf do you care?

If he was Austin's autobiographer

Then that means he is Austin.

I'm usually careful when I declare an undrafted rookie as a star in the making...

but I am impressed with how this kid handles his business. After the Romo interception, this kid goes over to Romo to discuss what he could have done better. Good way to earn your quaterback’s trust.

Just some first downs baby

That would be nice.
Cuz you know Witten is going to be forceps-ed on both sides on 3rd down, and RoyW will have a safety hanging around…..

oy vey, Austin.

Is it bad when have to beg a WR to be able to stay on the field?

by mdlusk on Sep 7, 2009 2:42 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hamstrings are tricky things, especially for a speedy guy...

With Ogletree more than capable, I say let Austin take extra time… we may need him later… then again, once Ogletree gets on the field, it may be hard to keep him off!

That's

why I kinda wish they had 6 WRs instead of just 5. Don’t know who’d they let go, but carrying 5 WRs worries me a little.

4 CB and Ball worries me more

not that Ball is awful, just stating a concern.

by bad knees on Sep 7, 2009 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

doesn't matter if it's 5 or 6

probably only taking four on gameday, so why does it matter if you have six, if two aren’t dressing

by Deke on Sep 7, 2009 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

6?

so they can go quintuples right with a single wideout on the other side? 6? why not make it a baker’s dozen?

by Joey2zs on Sep 7, 2009 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

for

a team that passes more than they run … they should have more receivers, IMO. Arizona carries 7 right now … and they have 2 all world studs!

Austin hasn’t been the most healthiest WR ever, and the 5th WR is an undrafted rookie. But you’re right … carrying 6 is WAAAAAYYYY too crazy to even consider.

Sugar ... water .... and, of course, purple.

by what_the_crap on Sep 7, 2009 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ah but they do

if you consider Witten, Bennett, Felix and MBIII in the mix, I really think think they consider all of them receiving threats.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it.

by dunkman on Sep 7, 2009 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

We don't give enough credit to MBIII

As a recieving HB. remember his catch in the Arizona game? I wouldn’t be surprised if they use him as a slot reciever with Jones is the back field. And he’s quicker than a lot of us think. When the cowboys signed his extension, he ran a reported 4.37. How does that compared to the other recievers?

by Alexcomestokill on Sep 7, 2009 10:43 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

oh

I didn’t say we wouldn’t have enough pass catchers. Dont get me wrong. Im just saying I’d feel more comfy with 6 WRs. Given Austin’s injury history, and Ogletree being an unknown. Doesn’t mean they won’t be successful, or it wont work.

Sugar ... water .... and, of course, purple.

I was not at all comfortable

until Ogeltree emerged. I feel a little better now, but yeah, Hurd and Austin have really not been too healthy so far.

Austin on the Path of Stanback

Infinite potential, zero results. I believe he’s going to turn it around, but the road he’s on will send him right to the waiver wire.

by GhostofGaryHogeboom on Sep 7, 2009 5:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

infinite potential???

Really??
You really, really believe Miles Austin has infinite potential? Infinite? LIke he could be 1,000x better than Jerry Rice?

Basic math. He’s a zero right now. Zero times any number is zero.

He probably has potential to be a 3rd or 4th WR on a team with poor WR depth.

by Joey2zs on Sep 7, 2009 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Something tells me he chose the word infinite for dramatic affect

Like the words you choose when you describe Dallas’ WR corp.

zero is cool. zero has its uses. what else would we use to describe Philly’s trophy cabinet, and use we have for the Skins and G-men? Seriously, dude, lay off of zero.

Hurd not mentioned in this thread?

He’s just as good as Austin so far-to me they’re interchangeable #3’s , and as long as one can go it should be the same.

I know, Austin can “stretch the field”-we’ve had that debate.
I just don’t think he’s that good or that opposing DC’s go,

“Oh no, Miles Austin is coming to town. Drop the safety back!” He may or may not make some plays on the long ball, for now we just need these guys to catch the ball and move the chains.

by Realist Larry on Sep 7, 2009 11:38 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

sigh!

they are not interchangable, they are indeed very different.

I bet Green Bay thinks different than you do. I hope they don’t drop a safety back then Romo will go to the read. Most teams are very conservative, except Philly, whom if we can block Austin will kill. Hurd would not nor would Ogletree.

by Realist Larry on Sep 8, 2009 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's just on paper at this point.

there are (literally) thousands of guys who can run really really fast.
that does not automatically make them an NFL deep threat. Turning it into reality, in a game situation, is a whole ’nother thing.

Their stats are similar, neither has proven anything (based on those stats) and Austin is a long way from being a Terry Glenn. 18 career catches?!
