Cowboys @ Vikings Injury Update
The biggest injury news around Valley Ranch is in regards to Marion Barber's left knee, which had a swollen bursa sac this week. We all know that the RB would love to barbarian his way through his old stomping grounds in Minnesota. Wade Phillips sounds optimistic about the progress Barber has made.
"We'll see what he does [Friday] but it's looking better and better for him to be able to play," Phillips said.
If Barber is dressed, Phillips expects Barber to be a starter.
Running backs coach Skip Peete said he will watch Barber closely during warmups and early in the game should he play. Peete noticed Barber was not as explosive vs. Philadelphia last week and took him out of the game. He said Barber could have played but with a big lead and the success of the other running backs it was wise to rest Barber.
More after the jump.
Really, the only other Cowboy injury concerns backup safety and special teams ace, Pat Watkins. Watkins, who has been recovering from a sprained PCL, could return to the lineup this week.
While the Cowboys don't have to decide the 45-man game day roster until two hours before Sunday's kickoff, it appears Watkins could get that chance to play. Watkins worked on most of the special teams units during Thursday's practice, while Hamlin was relegated to the scout team. That's usually the first sign when trying to figure out which players will play on Sunday.
As Barber's questionable status will depend upon Friday's practice, it sounds as if Watkins will be probable for Sunday's game.
Also listed as probable on the Cowboys injury report are DeMarcus Ware (back), Marc Colombo (ankle/leg), and Gerald Sensabaugh (thumb).
Some reports do have Tashard Choice (concussion) listed as probable, but he does not show up on DC.com's report.
The other notable injury for the Cowboys is RB Tashard Choice. It was originally thought that Choice may have suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter in the win over the Eagles, but further testing proved that was not the case. Choice is listed as probable this week and will be utilized more if Barber cannot go.

For the Vikings, the following players have been limited in practice this week, while FB Naufahu Tahi sat out with a back problem.
Limited for a second consecutive day were left guard Steve Hutchinson (shoulder); defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy (thumb); punter Chris Kluwe (back); tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (quadriceps); defensive tackle Pat Williams (elbow); and cornerback Antoine Winfield (foot).
As you can see, both teams are relatively healthy going into this game.

Here are some quick interviews with Keith Brooking, Roy Williams, and Ware as they share their thoughts on Sunday's game.
And, I always seem to ask this question to end weekly injury reports: Who's Hotter? Vikings or Cowboys Cheerleaders?

I know he would like to play a large part...
but a limited barber doesn’t sound so terrible right now.

yea there is a big difference there when it comes to looks
but in all fairness it is like – temperatures there…….that cold weather may do something to the skin or maybe not enough sun? Vit D? I dunno :)

Yep, I moved from Lubbock, Tx to Wichita, KS and gained about 10 yrs experience looks
in 3 years. The only bad part is that it happened to my wife too. : (
Texas: Where God goes to relax.
Unless he's watching the Cowboys.
Barber will play.
He’s too tough to sit this one out. Everyone wants a piece of this run the Cowboys are on. Everyone wants to contribute, and everyone wants to put a beatdown on the Vikes.
The tribulations of Winter...
90% of Americans say 'OH SHIT!' before going into the ditch on a slippery road.
The other 10% are from TEXAS and they say, 'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS!!!'
i have no doubt he will play,
but how effective could he be?

Effective enough to keep them guessing....
and at this point of the season, it’s a guessing game. Who do you game plan for?
Speaking of unknowns, watch Marty B have a great game…. just sayin’.

Yup. I predict Marty B or Doug Free will catch a goalline TD soon.

Has Hamlin seen the field this year?
I haven’t heard his name once since the preseason. Originally, I didn’t have any expectations for him this year, but he got quite a bit of love in camp as an instinctive player, ball-hawk, etc. It was enough to make me wonder if we’d hit the jackpot in the safety department.
Just curious.

he was active for 6 of the last 7 regular season games
I have a feeling that aligns with the period Watkins has been out.
But only had 1 tackle. So probably not in a gunner position etc. However he did double that production (2 tackles) in the playoff game. So could just be luck of the draw, where the plays ran etc or he may be getting more reps or just getting better on STs.
"Where's Woody? - We need another Darren Woodson
I'd give most of the work
to Jones and Choice and save Barber for short yardage situations, if even those. Choice looked really good on Saturday, so if there is any doubt about Barber, Choice should take his place.
choice looks good all the time
i always love seeing the choice wildcat. i would be happy to see more of him and felix, but at the same time i have tons of love for barber. lets hope we see a good 250 yards out of the 3 of them
I think we have the health advantage
That is 3 marque names for the Vikes that are dinged up:
left guard Steve Hutchinson
defensive tackle Pat Williams
and cornerback Antoine Winfield (foot)
If any of those guys are significantly below par on Sunday it will hurt the Vikes significantly. I am thinking particularly Winfield. I reckon this guy is severly under-rated, he is one of the very best CB’s in the NFL for the past few years. He was having a dominant season until he started having injury issues. “Foot” is a bad thing to be injured for a CB, not a good sign (for them). If they can’t count on him to single-cover one of our receivers, I can’t see them having any chance of containing our receiving weapons.

Not sure how everyone feels about Calvin Watkins but.....
the Vikings sb nation blog just trashed him in their latest article. It seems like the Vikings fans are very offended that they are not being handed the superbowl. They sound like they think they deserve it. It’s pretty easy and funny to rustle some feathers over at that site.

you know I fully expect a tough game and I believe it will be close and they're the favorites IMO
but reading their site makes me want to blow them out
Yeah I was just talking about with someone....
I think I like Eagle fans more, 90 % of the Viking fans on those boards know very little about their team.
They just talk smack and WHINE.

At least the majority of them...
know about football to an extant. I could go over there right now and write about the Vikings, and probably know more than 80% of their fanbase.

Eagles, Giants, Skins, Pats, Steelers, Ravens, very obnoxious.

Yeah...
At least they know somewhat about the sport.

I'm with you
I kept saying it over there too. They still have yet to say anything intelligent to me. They don’t seem to like that too much lol I wasn’t going to comment but it was getting out of hand. Then the dude writes up an entire article complaining that the Vikings were compared to the Eagles. Entertaining.

I tried talking football over there as well......
I’m not going to say they don’t know football, but the only thing they were concerned about was everyone on ESPN (and most other media outlets) not picking them to win. They are very insecure. Oh well, I hope the Aint’s / Cards fans will be better. :)

Yes. Never seen anything like it...
For the most part, the majority of their contributors and nice, funny and engaging. But, they seldom, if ever, talk actual x’s and o’s, matchups, strategies, or the things that actually tend to decide a football game.
Just take a look at their recent posts. In addition to complaining about Calvin Watkins, they have posted several diatribes about the media, disrespect, and how they should just “forfeit”; their belief about how artificial turf helps them; complaints about the supposed anti-viking officiating crew this weekend; complaints about our fans and the America’s team moniker. It’s really quite sad. It makes me appreciate the analysis given by Raf, Dave, Aaron and our guys all the more.

It's the "HOF QB" desease
Take the Colts fans on Stampede Blue (a/k/a ‘The Scientific Church of Peyton Manning’s Regular Season Fantasy Stats’): I see some of the best football analysis over there, but at the same time, every second post is about Peyton’s numbers, how great he is and how the Colts are constantly being slighted by the media. Similar things can be observed in the Temple of Brett Favre and the Cult of Tom Brady.
The sense of ‘entitlement’ on some of these sites just drives me nuts, and I derive an almost perverse pleasure from seeing these teams flame out early in the playoffs.

You'd think they would have their fill of media attention this season just from the Favre signing.

Not sure why Barber would start
seems logical if healthy to put him in the kind of role like he had a few years back. Might not be bad considering he is banged up

because he's been the starter all year
and with respect to the RB rotation, it doesn’t matter who starts really, the Cat will get his touches for sure.
In Romo we Trust
Barber is like a "body punch" that softens up the D
then here comes Felix like a quick “roundhouse kick” that just puts the opposition on their back for the count.
problem is those backs wear down fast and
how long is his current contract? Just saying :)

Kevin Oglethorpe?
Who’s this guy and when did we get him? According to Playbook on NFL network, he plays for us. I guess I missed that.
Baldy got that O-Thorp wrong, but his analysis was right. O-Tree will still catch and run this week, and the Vikes will
definitely know how to pronounce his name.
Family, Friends, Cowboys, Beer & BBQ. Life is good!
Oglethorpe rocks

Felix looks like a giant next to Choice, lmao
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 11-5!!!
2009 New York Jets: not 11-5 :(, but PLAYOFFS!!!
2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks: 57-25, despite the recent molestation at the hands of the Lakers
He looks huge!
A power speedback…nice combo.

yep and that's why he can take the ball through the middle of the line
or swing it out wide where he is even more dangerous
I love how felix smiles, it just has the honest to goodness smile of someone who is getting to show what he has got, and is having the time of his life.
