Source: Cowboys To Keep Wade Phillips
Over at ESPN, they report a high-ranking source saying the decision on Wade has been made, he's staying. No surprise here.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has decided that head coach Wade Phillips will return next season despite the team's 34-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings that eliminated Dallas from the NFC playoffs, a high-ranking team source said Monday.
There has been no decision on whether to negotiate an extension of Phillips' current contract.

Saw this on ESPN about an hour ago....no surprise and Wade should get one more shot

So Wade is going to take us to the Super Bowl next year?
If that’s the goal, Wade is the man for that job?
Also saw the Cowboys staff will coach the Pro Bowl

Good for Wade.
His D took us to a Divisional Playoff game.
Garrett’s O sent us home from it.
Offseason. Ugh. The long offseason begins today.

Wade's responsible for all of it
Are you kidding? He’s the HC
by cow_fanatic on Jan 18, 2010 11:20 AM CST up reply actions
He's not a HC in the since that most
HCs are. JG runs the O and Wade runs the D. Jerry is more involved in coaching the team than any GM in the league, he just not on the sideline “all the time”.
Well
whichever coach decided to go for the FG on 4th and 1 at the 30 in the first quarter rather than going for it is an idiot.
Terrible call.
(However, there is no coach worse than Norv Turner. What was he thinking on that onside kick?)
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
totally disagree
you go for the points… and suisham had not missed anything 40-49 yards all season

Before the game the coaches said he was ok at 40 to 45 yards
the kick was 47or 48 yards, and yes he had missed from under 40 yards.
Let's Hope
Let’s hope it’s just a one-year extension.
Wade Phillips is a fine defensive coordinator.
This team needs a head coach.

Wade is under contract for one more season so there is no reason to resign him yet

Jerry just had a club option for another year.
I guess he’s just going to exercise it.

Good
Only way I’m ok with him not being the HC is if he accepts a demotion to DC, wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

Wade deserves to be head coach next year, though I’d refrain from giving him an extension until mid-season at earliest.
Greetings from the Humungus, the Ruler of the Wasteland, the Ayatollah of Rock and Roll-A. I laugh at your puny plans.
sounds right
I’m not totally sold on Wade as HC, but he did a great job this year.
meh
But he deserves it, so I guess I’m fine with it. Super Bowl or bust next year!

Good for him
I hate it when they only give a coach a year or two to really get things done, when in reality it can take 5 years, if not more, to really have an impact on a team. Especially since I think he is the major reason for your success at defense over the past two years.
Why do we have "high-ranking sources" talking to Ed Werder?
He must be having casual “off the record” conversations over at Valley Ranch with a mic hidden under his hair piece.
Good for Wade and his assistants because now’s not the time to churn the coaching staff. We need to build on this season, not re-build.

Of course
He did the bare minimum—won a home playoff game. That’s where Jerry set the bar, so he deserves to come back.

Wade has earned another year. Great defense.
Garrett can go. He has more toys on offense than anyone and can’t seem to get them in the endzone.
I believe a West Coast type coordinator would have great success with all of these weapons.
Yards don’t win games. Being the #2 offense is not worth much if you don’t score.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Keep JG.
Don’t change now, the O is getting better. Dallas needs another WR to go with Austin, maybe that’s Tree, but RW ain’t working. I think with RW Dallas needs to cut bait and go on down the road. Get some O-lineman that can play and crank it up next year.
I would consider changes at RB
Maybe move on from Marion, let Choice get the bulk of the carries, and let Felix do what Felix does. I agree about RW…but I don’t know what you can get for him.
You can't get anything for RW.
They just cut him and eat the bonus money in the uncapped year. MB3 is under contract and is still a good RB. Dallas has a lot more holes to worry about, like LBs, DBs and O line. Dallas must get a FG kicker in the draft or FA.
Totally agree about RW, eat the money like we did with TO
I love how Barber runs and his heart, but he’s never been a starting RB IMO. TC or Felix, with Barber in TC’s 3rd down role.
Kicker? I’d sign Folk again. Like other articles I’ve read, he was never the same after the surgery. Bring him back now and see if he can get it back together. We all loved him in 2008. Kickers usually have a long life. Oh, and keep Bueler. Those 29 touchbacks were field position money in the bank. But let him practice FG’s. He’s listed as the backup, give him reps.
When in doubt, empty your magazine
I wouldn't miss Garrett
I think a LOT of coordinators would do a great job with this offense. They have to figure out how to score more. Even in their most impressive wins of the year it would have been nice to see more points.
But I’m cool with keeping him, too.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
good Lord! how many weapons do we need?!
even now, we’re the most stocked and locked offense with playmakers in the league.
but it’s all for naught, if we don’t get the ball in their hands in the right situations.
Offseason. Ugh. The long offseason begins today.

I was a Marine
We don’t blame the weapon for the rifleman’s error. JG calls a few good games and a lot of crappy ones. We have the weapons, but we need a new shooter (OC).

thank you.
i’m glad to see that i’ve got the marine on my side of the argument

bad anology
Players aren’t inanimate objects like riffles, once they hit the field they control themselves unlike weapons.
In Romo we Trust
Whoa - a Marine's rifle is NOT an inanimate object
It’s an extension of your body. But analogies can’t be stretched too far, none of them hold up if they are. And when you shoot, there are innumerable variables for which you have to account, i.e wind, rain, leaves, movement, etc.
That being said, I still think JG outsmarts himself or doesn’t take all of the variables into account. Romo was running for his life all day because the o-line was like a sieve. Colombo was not 100% and Free was doing a great job. We shouldn’t have started Colombo last week or this week. 3 of the sacks came across the RT
When in doubt, empty your magazine
Great Defense?
Farve: 15/24 4TDs / O INTS
Rice: 6 catches, 141 yards and 3TDS
Wow. Farve and Rice must have played out of this world then
"Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere. It's a result of something... hours and days and weeks and years of constant work and dedication." --Roger Staubach
Yes, great defense
Held Peterson to minimal yardage, got a lot of key stops early in the game, total yardage for Minn was not outrageous.
They hit some big pass plays (some flukey). And that last Favre TD was a sham in that Dallas was playing run 100%. I could have made that TD throw.
The D did a good job with the crap the O gave them. Five turnovers (I consider missed FG’s turnovers).
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
The first and third TDs to Rice were perfect throws.
Favre is playing like he sold his soul. That second TD was Favre in his prime, circa ‘95-’97.
THey held Philly, Washington, NO and SD
to season lows (before the Jets game). We harassed the Falcons with Matt Ryan. We held GB to around 3 points through 2 and a half quarters before the offense continually going 3 and out let them down.
Minnesota was at 17 with a free 3 from Romo I believe for the first 38 minutes or so. Thats not godawful. Not great, but not terrible.
so you agree

Flashes of greatness: YES
But not great. Not yet.

Good Move.
Wade did a great job. The D kept Minnesota’s high powered O in striking distance for most of the game. The offense had a clunker. The O-line couldn’t protect and that was the demise of the Cowboys. We need the continuity, just need to upgrade the O-line and 2nd WR position.

Wade did a great job leading this team to 12 wins this season
and definitely deserves to stay on as HC. Continuity is the key and Jerry understands that.
In Romo we Trust
I'm glad Wade's stayin
He doesn’t have a personality disorder like some coaches who bark like moon bats and I like the respect he expresses in his players. They give it back and they like Wade. He gets my respect for his obvious smarts with D. JG not so much he isn’t consistent enough with outsmarting the other team’s D coach.

I have been calling for Wade to be canned since last year
and was ready for a new coach should the Cowboys have lost to Philly. But he won me over with a very impressive showing by the defense.
I still don’t think he is a good HC, but I think giving him one more year is wise.
Super Bowl or bust next year, especially with the big game being in Dallas. If the Cowboys don’t reach the SB next year, I would expect a change.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
nah
Its likely we will have the same OL problems next year we had this year. And we had EVERYTHING ELSE go right this year.
The OL won’t be fixed in one year.
IMO we only have a real o-line problem
in that we only have one real backup – Free. We need a new and dependable backup C/G, and another T, swing maybe but more LT. Free showed he could play RT this season.
When in doubt, empty your magazine
They are not a great pass-protect line
built more for the run.
Fraziers blitz schemes were quite impressive yesterday. On one sack Kosier was frozen and his guy came thru untouched.
