No-I have nightmares about an injury someday in a Pro Bowl to a great player

Cowboy or not, (although I worry a lot more about guys from the Cowboys of course!)

Just what is the purpose of this game? Who cares?

Pessimists say the cup is half-empty, while optimists say it's half-full. Well, isn't it both? Realist Larry, 2009

But that was after the fact

the All-Star game was first and then tried later to “give it meaning”.

It’s a marketing event – a chance to showcase the sport’s stars, add another day of revenue and maybe add a few fans along the way.

Those are all guesses because I don’t watch unless I’m sure that a Dallas O-lineman will be blocking for Campbell, Manning or McNabb and then I watch out of morbid fascination…

great for both of those guys but the Pro Bowl is a freaking joke,,moreso than ever..

We have backups replacing backups…players that aren’t pro bowl caliber players like the Jacksonville QB starting in the Pro Bowl….What a mess the NFL has done with this. This will probably be the last time we see the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl because the best players aren’t even playing…..its a joke to the fans and more of a joke to the players. Goodell really screwed the pooch on this one….

A little justice

Even though Romo should’ve clearly been first alternate as well as Jenkins before Newman. I guess it worked out in the end

by Martin79 on Jan 25, 2010 6:40 PM CST reply actions

This should be the first of many for Jenkins

I was #1 on the We Hate Jenkins bandwagon last season, and didn’t think he had the toughness to play in the NFL. I love being wrong!!

Im no fan of either, but Eli was no way in hell better than Mcnabb this year....

Mcnabb was lighting it up for a good portion of the season. The last 4 or 5 games that teams tanked. Eli just sucked all season .

If I was forced to I would take Mcnabb...Eli isnt successful without a dominant defense as we saw this year.

Mcnabb 22TD 10 INTs 3553 yds 92.9 RTG.
Manning 27 TD 14 INTs 4021 yds 93.1 RTG

Pretty close…Giants didnt have much of a running game either this year as in the past..

NFL should just name an all-pro team

without actually playing a game. Baseball, basketball and hockey all star games are different, those games aren’t as violent and brutal where you need a complete week to fully recover like you do from a football game.

by Terry on Jan 25, 2010 9:04 PM CST reply actions

Said this on another thread

I like the fact our coaching staff, Romo, and eight other Dallas Cowboys are going to be in Miami at the Pro Bowl a week before the Superbowl. Hear me out, they will be there with the after thought players while most of the National Press are camped out at Miami’s Airport and Convention Center awaiting the arrival of the Colts and Saints. Basically, our boys can experience the bitter pill of being "Bride’s Maids" this season by playing in the stadium a week before the big game while it is filled to 1/2-2/3 capacity. Whatever the media coverage is of the game, it will be focused on the players who aren’t playing in the game. Furthermore, look at it as another opportunity for the Romo, Witten, and Austin to continue to work on their timing with each other, while at the same time our coaching staff can scout the non-Cowboys players on the NFC team (during practice), liked Wade hinted at last week. Also, they can scout some of the AFC South Players (including Dallas Clark, who is participating) during the game to get a feel for what some of their strengths and weaknesses. This might be a stretch, however, this should serve as added motivation going into next season.

It will all come down to ratings

There is a good chance that more fans will tune in the week before football then do in February. Some of my casual football friends that only watch a few playoff games and then the SB will be tuning in this week because this is the one month they watch football.

If the ratings are good we will see more of this in the future.

by Trey, on Jan 25, 2010 11:18 PM CST reply actions

The ratings will be better

because football fans still have a strong craving of football before the SB, however, after the SB is played, most football fans turn their attention to other things like college basketball, this year, the Olympics, and other things.

In our case, the draft.

The dude put up a QB rating of 83

When no defense even bothered paying attention to his team’s passing game. That’s not pro-bowl quality.

by Conjunction on Jan 26, 2010 9:17 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not saying he should have went...

but who would you have but in over him?

Plus, I don’t think you totally judge players like him on QB rating.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Jan 26, 2010 10:57 AM CST up reply actions

Yep, I'm more a proponent of DVOA, myself

Young was 13th there, behind such notables as Chris Redman and Matt Moore. I realize those were backup players, but so was VY, to an extent.
In terms of DYAR, Young was 18th. Behind Chad Henne.

by Conjunction on Jan 26, 2010 11:37 AM CST up reply actions

now how illogical is this??

Colts sit their stars throwing away a chance at history and a perfect season because they want their players rested and injury free for the playoffs, but it’s okay for Clark to play in the Pro Bowl the week before the SB.

I don’t get it.

Clark is going to play

Peyton Manning had a press conference yesterday, and he said that although he (Manning) wouldn’t play, the Colts didn’t have a rule saying you could not play. They showed those statements last night/this morning on Espn.

I'm surprised

Bill Polian publicly blasted the entire concept of having the game the weekend before the SB. Now one of his own players is going to suit up? Dallas Clark must have some escalator clause in his contract that kicks in if he is named to the Pro-Bowl.

Update: The Colts and Saints players selected to play in the Pro Bowl

Now have to show up in Miami a day before the rest of their teams, and take part in the PR stuff and be introduced at the game, but none of them will be actually playing in the game.

Still, kind of a dumb and unnecessary interruption when so much is at stake. I think this will be the first and last time the Pro Bowl is sandwiched between Championship weekend and the Super Bowl.
