Players at the Senior Bowl who the Dallas Cowboys like
I think it would be cool if we could make a list of sorts of whom the Cowboys have shown an interest in. According to some reports the Cowboys scouts have been drooling over Iupati, whom has been dominating thus far. Scott Wright also reports a couple more players the Cowboys have shown an interest. If you have others please list them below in the comments, and I'll add them to the list:
OG Mike Iupati Idaho
TE/FB Garrett Graham Wisconsin
CB/FS Chris Cook Virginia
RB Ben Tate Auburn
S Taylor Mays USC
LB Cameron Sheffield Troy
DE Brandon Lang Troy
CB Kyle Wilson Boise State
DL Mike Neal Purdue*
OLB Roddrick Muckelroy Texas
WR Demaryius Thomas GT
WR Carlton Mitchell South Florida
1 OG, 1 TE/FB, 1 RB, 1 S, 2 LB, 1 DE/OLB, 1 CB, 1 DL, 2 WR
* Was told by Cowboys that he didn't fit their scheme. That could be true or they could be blowing smoke.

Wow.
A running back. Rumor has it that JJ is wary of MB3’s “nicks” towards the end of the year.

Interesting...or smoke signal?
Ben Tate – Auburn
5’11, 218, 4.5 40-Time; 1,362 rushing yards, 10 TDs; 105 receiving yards
Strengths: Very good size and bulk — Decisive, powerful, downhill runner
Weaknesses: Does not have great vision or instincts — Lacks explosion
Projection – Mid Round

yeah doesn't look good for Barber
players like him and Roy with bloated contracts could get dumped in this uncapped offseason. However if Barber gets dumped or traded it will probably be at the end of training camp.

I don't read too much into this.
I don’t think Tate was that good at Auburn anyways.

True
but it definitely seems weird that we should be looking at a “power” back when we have MBIII (who is considered a power back). With that being said though, I would not mind unloading MBIII’s contract and taking Tate in a later round.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

If we go for power back
why not LaGarrett Blount

They probably don't want to spend higher than a 4th on a RB.

Agreed. It's good to pick up a player as a just in case...
but if they can play, a la Terrell Davis, then you take them and you worry about fitting them all in. That’s a problem most teams will envy 9 out of 10 times.
Not to say that he's a bad character guy, but he obviously may...
have difficulties controlling his emotions. Considering the boiler room that is the NFC East, I’m not sure that he wouldn’t do something stupid.
I’m still ticked off at Newman for kicking the ball after the play late last year. What the hell was that?
i don't want a guy who is going to get suspended every year
when games get heated against philly and ny and this cat loses his temper… no thanks

Who knows.
Julius Jones wasn’t that great at Notre Dame and it was attributed to the fact that he wasn’t given enough time on the field. Then he came to Dallas and lit it up light a Christmas tree, and then progressively became a question mark.
It’s a crap shoot, and Tate could be a heck of a lot better at the next level.
I think Roy will get another year.
Jones’s pride is at stake and it take a big man to admit he was wrong, and I don’t think Jerry is that big. Also, without a cap, the only issue is money. If Roy doesn’t produce this year, then cut him next year before the cap is reinstated.
I don't care if we have redundancy, I just want a good player.
If the kid can play at the next level, draft him, kick the tires, then trade/release the veteran player. It would have sucked if we didn’t that to Emmitt, but Marion isn’t quite the icon that Emmitt was.
From DMN
+ Idaho offensive guard Mike Iupati is powerful. He tossed around defensive linemen as if they were rag dolls in drills.

At 28, that might be a little low to get the best guard in the draft.
Also, if Brewster is a player and Davis isn’t going anywhere, I’m not sure that we would spend a 1st round pick on a guard. If Brewster sucks… sure, but I don’t think they have given up on him yet. At the very least, I don’t see them giving up a 1st and a 3rd to get a guard (by trading up in the round).
That certainly is a possibility if Iupati is as mobile as many scouts are saying...
Now obviously I would prefer we draft our LT as a stud that has always played LT, but if Iupati is on the board and the stud LT’s are gone, I think you would be hard-pressed not to take him unless a guy like Earl Thomas slides down.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

better a great guard
than a decent tackle, even though tackles are harder to find.

I'm not saying to move him
I’m saying he’s worthy of a first rd pick if he is versatile enough to play both positions.
In Romo we Trust
Garrett Graham and Chris Cook
Cook is a CB from Virginia: Profile
Graham is a TE from Wisconsin: Profile

There is a lot to like about Chris Cook...
He is 6’2", 212 lbs. and apparently looks really instinctive in the Senior Bowl practices. He also has some experience at safety and would provide some nice versatility to our defense. I definitely would like him as a later round pick.

Also, I'm OK with the Cowboys never tipping their hand when it comes to draft picks.
There are very few things worse than getting all excited about your guy being available with only a few picks to go only to have another team swoop in to steal your guy.
The Patriots did it to the Jets a few years back with Matt Light. The problem was compounded by the fact that the Jets picked a crappy player.
Iupati is from Idaho btw
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

More praise for Iupati
It’s settled, Mike Iupati is the best player in this year’s Senior Bowl. When he’s played guard here in practices, he’s been unstoppable. The question now becomes how high does he get drafted? I thought he was an early second-round guy before this week. Now I don’t think he gets passed Dallas’ pick in the first.

I dont think he even gets to Dallas's pick in the first
He’s been the most praised player from the entire cast of Senior Bowl characters. San Francisco has two first round picks and needs O Linemen. I dont think he makes it past San Fran’s second pick at the very latest.
Unless there are some good underclassmen at the position, it's not looking likely that he will fall to 27.
Dammit.

I'm not sure
The really good OT’s aren’t attending the Senior Bowl, so right now senior OG’s like Iupati and Ducasse are soaking up all the attention. But by the time the draft actually gets here, those OT’s will push Iupati back down into the bottom of the 1st.
At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.
Plus don’t forget about Pouncey either.

Has anyone checked out Corey Chavous' draftnasty.com?
I registered for it and still don’t have access to player scouting reports. Laaaaaaame.

Update:
apparently, according to Scott Wright, the Vikings have been scouting the Cowboys! LOL!
http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/SeniorBowl/reports/Observations/Wednesday.php
anyhow, I think he means the Cowboys are scouting Taylor Mays. I’ll update the original post once he corrects it.

Taylor Mays
I know his draft stock took a hit after his average Senior season, but I still think we would have to trade up to get Mays. I love the idea personally, but he wont be there at #27. At the combine he will show his superior athletic ability and end up being a top 20 pick.

With Dallas, he'd be an ILB cuz he's only about 230.

Here's a whole lot of them from Calvin Watkins.
Here are a few of the names the Cowboys are interested in, gathered from talking to scouts, agents and players: RB Ben Tate, Auburn; LB Cameron Sheffield, Troy; DE Brandon Lang, Troy; CB Kyle Wilson, Boise State; G Mike Iupati, Idaho; DL Mike Neal, Purdue; and DB Chris Cook, Virginia.
[snip]
Some other players the Cowboys are looking at are Georgia Tech wide receiver DeMaryius Thomas and South Florida wideout Carlton Mitchell.

How is that possible?
DeMaryius Thomas is a junior, right? Did he and his agent just make a trip down to the Senior Bowl to meet with teams?

Hmmmm
Terrence Cody is also a forced to be reckoned with. It’s almost impossible for a single blocker to move Cody out of the hole and sometimes double teams don’t even work. He’s an ideal NT in the NFL and will demand double teams on any running play. While he’s clearly out of shape, he has the talent to be dominate in the NFL if he can develop a stronger work ethic.
Sorry, but he’s my guy.
Good feet and can walk the pocket back to the QB. allows Rat to slide outside and better utilize his quickness in one-on-one battles.
High risk, high reward.
"Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can't play football worth a damn."
- John McKay, the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I think Rats a better matchup against C and Gs. I would still take Cody if he fell to 27th
because he would probably be BPA. As far as walk back to the QB. He actually doesnt move much forward or backward.
KICK ASS every day!!!
How about the idea that you couldn't double BOTH Rat and Cody?
At least one of them could create some pressure in the grill of the opposing QB.

I really want to infuse talent and youth in the OL but I would take Cody if he fell.
KICK ASS every day!!!
I don't know
Another first rounder on defense? I would only make exception for a safety. So if there’s a comparable lineman on the board, right now I’m hoping the Cowboys go with him.

Ryan Matthews isn't there..
but he is the best RB in the country..

I like his backup..lonyae miller..
Miller is the guy I would look at in the middle rounds if tate is gone..This miller kid is my sleeper at rb in this draft…
zone blocking scheme rb
He is one cut runner. I like Lonyae too, he is great speed, but doesn’t have the vision or the ability to break tackles like Matthews.
