Cowboys shut out Eagles in spite of horrid officiating

I am very proud of our 'Boys for dismantling the doucher Eagles.  I hate them more than any other team.  I stand happily corrected in my May prediction of an 8-8 season with no playoffs.  This Defense is getting saltier every game and should put the fear of God into every team they face.

Star-divide

One point I do want to make is the horrible officiating.  They call roughing against Philly when Romo is barely even touched and then don't make any call when he's clobbered a full 3 seconds after releasing the ball.  They call offsides on Bowen when the center's headbob drew him off.  I hope we get a better crew next week.  And I hope we make it back to back to back shut outs.

How 'bout them Cowboys!!!!!!!!!!!!

BIG BIG BIW WIN!!!

The Offensive line played it’s best game of the season. Personally, I wouldn’t insert Colombo back in because the O-line is playing at such a high level.

Definitely

Free is doing just fine.

I still believe in Romo.

by Nelson... on Jan 3, 2010 7:41 PM CST up reply actions

absolutely is right

Columbo can’t be replaced, but Free is doing an exceptional job, providing protection and a great hole opener when needed for the running game. I say finish Free out and start Columbo strong next season.

Horrible officiating??

You can’t be serious! Coming from a football official (although only HS), number one, you are not going to make every call correctly. As a fan you should know that. The players know it better than anybody. Just talk to any player and they will tell you that’s just the way it goes. Also, on that play where Romo got hit real late, those are very often the easiest to miss for an official because that head Ref is trained to watch the QB through the play for a second or two. Once everything clears out he is naturally going to take his eyes off the QB and look to see what took place, see if his other officials have anything to relay to him, and multiple other things that he is responsible for. So if he took his eyes off of Romo (rightfully so that late in the play) then of course he is going to miss it and you can’t make the call even if you see Romo laying on the ground and your assumption is he didn’t end up there by falling without the help of the opponent.

I can understand one

Ref not seeing it, but the entire crew? It was a bullchit no-call.

by HutHut on Jan 3, 2010 8:57 PM CST up reply actions

No seriously

This particular officiating crew is terrible. Ron Winter’s crew is the worst in the league for sure. Remember the Phantom tripping penalty called against the Vikings when they faced the Steelers game? That’s not the only one, there have been mucho bad calls by this crew. I doubt they’ll work the playoffs though, hopefully.

Dallas got

called for the most penalties and it happened alot on big plays. I will repeat what John Madden said one night on TV , “You can call holding on every single play, it happens that often”…….well Dallas did get the bulk of the calls against them today. So atleast the Eagle fans won’t have that as a excuse why they were dominated.

"When people talk about Super Bowl dynasties they mention the 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys and the current New England Patriots, but nobody has dominated the Super Bowl like Anheuser-Busch. In recent years, Budweiser has been the MVP of Super Bowl advertising -- making another company the favorite to win the Ad Meter poll was never an option."

I didn't notice the penalty situation being that bad

Romo apparently has no cred with the referees. He gets some strange grounding calls and hardly EVER gets roughing the passer calls.

by foyesboys on Jan 3, 2010 7:44 PM CST reply actions

o i agree

but just in general, he seems to take TONS of late, way after the throw hits compared to other qbs.

he's no Brady that's for sure

but I’m ok with that

The officiating stunk ..

I was thinking the same thing as the title of the fan shot.

They called Gurode for barely rocking. Then the Eagles’ center does a semi-earthquake move and the Cowboy is flagged for going offside. It was terrible!

Then the 2 no calls .. one with Romo getting hit late and there was a hold as the Eagle guard tackled one of our defenders. … Gotta hope for even calls next week!

Have to disagree...

on that roughing the passer that actually GOT called. it was textbook – hit a QB in the face with your hand, expect it to be called. Romo was blasted late, but it at least LOOKED incidental, although I’m almost certain it wasn’t.

+1 to foyes boys though – our drives got stalled in spite of ourselves, rather than the Philly D.

+1

A QB gets touched in the NFL or NCAA in the helmet and that call happens.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Jan 3, 2010 7:59 PM CST up reply actions

completely disagree

The officiating was pretty good in my opinion. I think they did a great job and didn’t have any problems with any calls made or not made. I think the one where Romo went down was questionable because he really ran into the defender, but the defender did extend his arms out a little bit

The 2 holding calls on Felix's big runs

were complete BS, thats for sure.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Jan 3, 2010 8:00 PM CST reply actions

Not really

The one on Anderson was debatable, I’ll give you that. They never showed a real good replay of it but it did look like he held up the defender just a tad. Could have been a no call for sure but as someone stated earlier, holding can be called on every play (mainly because of blocks like Anderson’s on this play) and it was called on this play.

The other play was a definite hold as the Cowboy OLineman was making an attempted tackle on the defender.

by Chris Hanes on Jan 3, 2010 8:03 PM CST up reply actions

What was complete BS though..

was that the O-Lineman didn’t have to do what he did and the play would have never got negated. That’s the type of dumb plays this team can not afford to make and the coaches have to drill that kind of stuff into them in the film room. I just don’t know if the coaches do a good job of that though.

by Chris Hanes on Jan 3, 2010 8:05 PM CST up reply actions

yea

Gurode absolutely grabbed that defenders ankles. It was illegal. And unneccessary

by foyesboys on Jan 3, 2010 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

Dallas has

been a team that commits tons of penalties on offense all season, not sure what the deal is but can count on getting 65+ yards in penalties on offense every game

I'm fine with false starts.

Some of our holding today was unnecessary though.

On another note, if our players were pansies like the giants’, they would’ve thrown a hissy fit over peters going after jenkins out of bounds. That was bush league.

by foyesboys on Jan 3, 2010 8:16 PM CST up reply actions

Am I the only one then who saw the Eagles LT

definitely move early on a play? It was an incomplete pass near the end of the half, I think.
They even replayed it but the announcers didn’t notice.

Larry he did that on more than one occasion

but I think they did get the call right when Gurode was breathing and called him for a false start lol

I actually thought it was maybe the best crew Dallas has had all season

The no-call on the guy that hit Romo late was the only mistake I was mad about. Looked like he had time to pull up before he hit Romo.

Penalties are always a Cowboys weak point

I go in every game thinking we are gonna get more against us then for us. It makes me less aggravated when the game ends. There were bogus calls/no calls but ehh, we stomped ‘em. One less thing to hear about like last game. They blamed their loss on the refs, can’t do it this time

Up to this game a lot of us had been so happy about the reduced penalties, too

Although they overcame them today, I really hope they don’t have so many on the OLine the rest of the way.

As the games mean more, each series, each drive, becomes full of pressure, and too many of those might lead to frustration.
