Statistical tidbits

I wasn't able to watch the game (thank you Redskins) but what happened on the 4th and 2 when Romo was dumped for a 12 yard loss? Jesus. I am guessing it was a play action pass gone terribly wrong.

Thanks to that huge loss, the Cowboys ended up with 6390 yards of net offense, or 399.4 yards of offense per game. It would have been nice to average a clean 400 yards a game.

With four sacks of McNabb the Cowboys have 42 this year, giving them 147 in Wade's three seasons as head coach/defensive coordinator. That's 49 sacks a year. Nice.

I wrote a FanPost a few days ago where I noted that Dallas had never allowed the fewest points in a season, and it didn't look like they would in 2009 either, with the Ravens and Jets "ahead" of them. Well, with the (admit it) unexpected shutout the Cowboys stayed at a nice 250 points allowed, while the Ravens gave up 13 to the Raiders to end up at 261. The Jets started the day at 236, and while many expected the Bengals to sit some starters, I at least thought Carson Palmer could score a couple touchdowns. But as I write, the Jets are up 30-0, Palmer is on the bench, and the Bengals have 43 yards of total offense late in the 3rd quarter, so...looks like the Cowboys won't win a scoring defensive title for the first time in their illustrious 50 year history.

Most of us know that Tony Romo is a pretty good quarterback. But how many of us were expecting season numbers like these?

550-347-(63.2)-4483-(8.2)-26-9 (97.6)

Holy. Sh*t!

Meanwhile, the offense rushed 438 times for 2103 yards, for a franchise-record 4.8 yards per carry (previous high was 4.7 in 1962). To me, this high number is impressive because they had three running backs with significant carries, as compared to when other teams have high "team" rushing averages but because they have one fantastic running back.

I believe that this was the first time that the Cowboys ever had two straight shutouts. The last time that the Cowboys blanked the Eagles, was 1998 (34-0).
