Bandwagon fans

Has anyone else noticed how much Cowboy fans are considered bandwagon fans, especially on Bleeding Green Nation (BGN)? On multiple posts on BGN, I have heard one person after another say that you can't be considered a true fan of a team unless you're rooting for the team in your own state. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bunch of BS??

I've been a Cowboy fan since the early to mid '80's when Danny White was NOT punting the ball and Dorsett was not reeling off 99 yard touchdown runs. I grew up in Ohio where the Cowboys were on one channel and the Steelers or Browns were on the other channel. I picked the Cowboys as my team and have been a diehard ever since. To call me a bandwagon fan of the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 is absurd!

Cowboy fans have been destroyed on BGN for arguing that they are not bandwagon fans. One person posted that they live in Texas, but they root for the Eagles and this person obviously was not called out for being a bandwagon Eagles fan because, I guess there can only be bandwagon Cowboy fans. One of the Eagles posting this idea happens to be a Knick fan. Double standard?! Am I missing something here? What's wrong with rooting for a team outside of the state you grew up in? There's nothing wrong with being from, say North Dakota, and being a Giants fan or being an Eagles fan from Georgia or a Cowboys fan from Ohio.

Why does this topic seem to come up multiple times in BGN's message boards? I'd like to know what everyone's take is on this topic.
