Stop holding out hope
I know, many of you will say "the season is not over" and then post some fine stats to back up your point. I'm just saying, this team is not smart and makes way too many mistakes to do anything this year.
Today we saw a very talented team with highly paid assistant coaches and pro bowl players all over the roster. They played a team that plays hungry and opportunistic. Guess what? The latter team won because that is today's NFL. The margin of error is way to small to A. Have a field goal kicker who misses and B. Make red zone turnovers and C. have special teams break down at the worst times.
I saw some great things today and the boys lost. This sentence sums up the current "window of opportunity" that the cowboys have had for the last few years. Ever since they dug themselves out of 5-11 purgatory, they have been a team that makes breathtaking plays and then shoot themselves in the foot over and over.
If they make the playoffs, they may win one game but there is no ring this year, no return to glory. Today was the day to make a statement and our team said the following "We will build your hope and then crap the bed at the worst possible time. Don't get too emotionally involved."
If you are like me, you are already involved and are really hurting right now. Maybe this post is just a defense mechanism because I am so tired of this team killing my buzz. Maybe we need a new coach.
The only answer I have is that the fine people of Arlington won't be hosting a home game this year in February.

I didn't see the middle 55 minutes of the game
so I can’t comment much on it. But I think its worthwhile to point out that nobody has proven anything in the NFC. The Saints and Packers are both a play or two from being in the same position as us. The Giants look the best to me, but they have a similar Cowboys like ability of shooting themselves in the foot. The Redskins are 3-2 despite looking horrid at times.
I’m not saying we’ll make the playoffs or anything like that. And I’m not going to comment on the whole “fire wade” thing since I didn’t watch the game and I can’t image how frustrating it was. But there is a very small line between winning and losing in this league, and just because we have come out on the wrong side of that line in 2 games doesn’t mean I’m giving up hope. Again, it also probably helps that I missed the majority of this game.
My post isn't so much based on today's game
as it is that this is the same thing I have seen over and over for the last few years. Tell me if this sounds familiar “Uh oh, the cowboys are in trouble” “Wait, what a play, we are back in it!” “WFT? Holding? Personal Foul” “Uh oh, we are in trouble” – repeat ad nauseum.
Personally
I think this season has been WAY worse than last year. We are struggling in multiple areas at different times. Against the Bears it was a couple turnovers due to our wrs, which played great in games 1 and 3. Against Washington is was an offensive tackle who embarassed the organization. I don’t know what it was against the titans – i saw the first drive and our secondary got shredded. I saw the last drive and Romo, after what sounds like a terrific game, threw a dumb ball.
If they make playoffs anything can happen
Thankfully the nfc us still wide open. But the door is quickly closing for the cowboys this season
Really?! Really?!

This team looks .500 to me
not good enough to take out the teams it should beat like the last few years. Usually we can work through the penalties.
On the other hand, whose good and whose bad exactly? Its hard to tell. No team aside from maybe baltimore looks great. No NFC team for sure.
NO, the NFC is not still wide open.
We have no chance at the wild card. We must win the NFC East division to make the playoffs. Therefore the rest of the NFC is irrelevant. And right now we are 2 games back in the NFC East.

Stop being pretentious...
and acting like you see something the rest of the fan base doesn’t? If fans want to hold out hope because we’re only 5 weeks and four games into the season, so be it.
I’m not particularly hopeful at this point, but I’ve seen enough football seasons to know that anything can happen.
I think there is still time...
SD was 4-8 with 4 weeks to go and ended up winning their division. Stuff happens.

Season's don't end after 4 games
It would be like saying a game is over after the first quarter.
There’s plenty of football to be played yet.
I saw lots of good things to hang my hat on today. They may not win the Super Bowl, but all is not lost.

I agree this team is done
Coming off a bye week and losing another game at home to a Titans team that just lost to the Broncos at home. Its pathetic and its time to make changes. But will Jerry Jones make changes no. Knowing Jerry he will probably make Jason Garrett the next head coach of dallas. I’ve never seen a Cowboys team this poorly coached with this much talent. You outgain the opponents by 190 yards and still lose. Bennett had balls right in his hands today drops them. Jason Witten i thought was smart i guess not handing the ball off to an offensive lineman to celebrate there is a penalty. This team is becoming the laughing stock of the league. Fat boy Phillips is not a good head coach. Jason Garrett is not a good offensive cordinator bottom line. Nice game by Mike Jenkins also today ha.
One pass too high and away to get more than his fingertips on
The other was also thrown over a defender and Bennet was already moving in the direction the pass was supposed to go. That one he might have adjusted on, but it was still a poor throw.
If at first you don't succeed - blame someone else.
This season is over.
I said so after 0-2, when it was already apparent the Cowboys are a stupid team.
Is it NFL time yet?
Yea Yea Yea
I have always been very optimistic about this team.
In ’89 I was looking forward to the future with our exciting new coach, owner, and draft picks. In 2000 – 2005 it was more optimism with getting rid of the “dead money” from past contracts and moving forward…….
2007 = WOW we are back baby, high rolling and ballin big time! The future is looking bright, home division playoff game…..
2009 = Played with heart, lotta mistakes, but showed PROMISE! Maybe next year.
2010 = This team is too stupid to win. Like Billito said they are a waste of talent. And Wade is not a good decision maker and rarely shows any balls.
Today the commentators were talking about Wade and Jeff Fisher working under Buddy Ryan and how they both use the attacking, aggresive defense.
I do not see Wade as aggresive, where are all the sacks?
Where is the fear in opponents eyes?
Why did we attempt a long FG in last Year’s playoff game in Minnesota when we were within a TD of being tied?
Finally this year (Houston and today) we went for a couple of 4th downs, but overall?
He is soft and his teams are soft.
Good in the regular season, no so much in playoff games.
I was not that upset in the first half today, very up in the third and fourth qtr, but oddly not shocked or overly angry on the last INT.
Like in a bad marriage I am distancing from Wade and look forward to him being gone more and more.
when your secondary gets burned like ours did in the first quarter
agressiveness tends to (rightfully) take a back seat.
I am significantly dumber for reading this post
Seriously. I am picking on you, although I’m sure there are a thousand more of these bound to spring up from wannabe writers. My gut reaction to reading this is: Good, now go away.

…not sure how, but I know they will.

Hey everyone is Huslinone
Love these fans that are always positive. Nothing is wrong with the Cowboys. Everything is great in the world. Oh be positive all of you how could you say anything negative about this team. Shut up kid and quit trying to be the great Cowboy fan. Hate to break it to you just because you don’t complain doesn’t make you any more of a fan then any of us that do. Thats what these forums are for so go ahead kid. Get that shirt out your momma made you a couple of years ago that says Cowboys number one fan and wear it with pride.

Did you read anything in my post that was positive?
No. I’m pissed off just like everyone else, but does it make you (or this guy) feel any better to come in and crap on the people that do have hope that they can pull this out? So, this post is telling me I should just stop watching the Cowboys after 4 games?
You don’t find it funny that the same guy that gets mad at me for telling him to stop blasting the Cowboys will turn around and tell me not to say anything good about them?
Any Cowboy fan is dying after that game yesterday.
You are a joke.
Are you really going to come here and compare a guy talking about a football game to people at a funeral? Where someone they love has just died?
Or to troops in a shooting war that are this close to really dying?
There is a big difference between a guy who says “hey, our season is over” and the examples you gave. I have been in a war and you, huslinone, are a moron.

Good one - I actually laughed out loud
What a joke.
You’re a joke.
Very nice – well played, Sir.
You’re scaring the customers. No….you’re….scaring……the customers.
It’s called an analogy. The point is – no one likes the ‘without hope’ guy. If you don’t have any hope about the season, great….go away then. No reason for you to watch anymore, right? Seriously.
What does this accomplish? Hey – look – I convinced 2 people to stop caring about the Cowboys. Yay.
I wrote this post yesterday right after the game ended
and you are right, I have no place to tell anyone to give up hope. I am not giving up hope either but I had to get this post off my chest because I am so sick and tired of watching games like yesterday.
I get where you are coming from and don’t take offense. I can take it if you pick on me because this is the kind of post I usually write and don’t end up publishing but yesterday was a new low. Can the season be saved? Sure but I just don’t see any improvement in the things (too many penalties, D giving up huge plays, no O-line protection) that have cost this team wins for the last few years.
Count your blessings
We could be 49ers fans.

Ultimately, I still won't give up hope.
I understand the stark reality of 1-3, but if we could ever put it all together over time I believe we could be a pretty good team. We will need to go on a sick run, but it isn’t impossible so I won’t just give up hope because I am upset about the outcome of this game.

Wow, we agree
There is always hope when you have good players. It will be a tough road though to make the playoffs, but you are right in such a magnificently ironic way…we need a sick run, or a collection of sick runs during games to win HAHA

Haha well played.
I think today though you saw a great pass/run mix in my opinion when Dallas actually wasn’t having to try to throw the ball at a high pace to try to catch up. It was good enough to really get Felix involved and get him over 100 yards but still pass heavy enough to really move the ball on a Titans defense that has a decent secondary.
I think if we want to start to winning we better start forcing turnovers on defense and using blitzes that don’t involve simply having Brooking get stoned by a RB.

not much of a difference
being a cowboy fan or a 49er fan right now. What one win oh boy. Two once proud franchises really struggling.
There is a HUGE difference.
This is the NFC East, not West!
We will need to go on a sick run
At the very MINIMUM we need to get to 9-7 just to sniff winning the NFC East. The wildcard is out of the question. Think about it, we must go 8-4 from here on out.

What the...
…heck did our freakin’ coaching staff do these last two weeks?
12 penalties for what, over 130 yds and three turnovers!
Our Boyz had TWO WHOLE WEEKS to prepare for the Titans, and we get this sh__?!?!
Lemme get this straight — we’re keeping Wade mainly because of his vaunted Phillips 66 Defense, yet we allow Vince Young and the Titans receivers kill our overrated underachieving secondary?!?!
You’d think Mike Jenkins/Terence Newman/Orlando Scandrick were going up against Torry Holt/Isaac Bruce/Az Hakim or Randy Moss/Cris Carter/Jake Reed back in their respective hey days.
Nope. Try Kenny Britt/Nate Washington/Damien Williams.
Outplayed.
Outclassed.
Outperformed.
That’s how our sorry a__ corners played today.
T-New actually played above average, but collectively I give those three a C-.
Alan Ball and Gerald Sensabaugh? Seriously? Did they even exist today? Yeah, those are some real difference makers back there as our starting safeties.
And did our LBs forget how to tackle during the bye week? So many extra yards gained — whether they were running or pass plays came on poor tackling.
And can anybody on our O-line move their feet when pass blocking? I know the Titans front four was good, but let’s combine that with the technique of our O-line as a whole and that’s an eff’n recipe to get #9 killed back there.
I said it before — and I’ll say it again…
2010 is The Season of Disappointment — and today’s loss to Tennessee typified that.
One last thing…
Playoff teams make plays when given the opportunity. Martellus Bennett has to make that catch in the end zone. Yes, it was a heck of an effort to jump between a few defenders to touch it with both hands — but you touched it, so you gotta catch that. You make that TD catch, you go ahead by a TD, you get the crowd back in to it, and you amp the D and the entire team.
But instead, MartyB tips it up and it gets picked. Titans D snuff out a threat and stop an impressive drive. Dallas never gets the chance to lead again.
Game over.
That was the critical play of the game — in my opinion…
Is playing smart too much to ask?
Although it looks really really really really bad right now
The season is not over yet. What I will do is stop thinking of the Cowboys as a good team and keep my expectations low. That way, if they lose again in such miserable fashion, it’ll be somewhat easier to swallow. Because that is how bad teams play.
But I will take issue with this —
but you touched it, so you gotta catch that
There are too many things wrong with that pass and that playcall to put it all on Bennett, e.g. run the damn ball, don’t throw into double coverage, check into the next option…
Easier catches are dropped week-in week-out in the NFL. That was just another example of bad mojo.

Agree to disagree
In a tight game like that, you’ve just gotta make the most of every opportunity.
I thought the pass was there. If Bennett makes the catch, you don’t hear people talking about Romo throwing in to double coverage.
It was a catchable ball.
But we’re all entitled to our own opinions.
And I respect yours.
One thing I do agree with though, is what you said about keeping expectations low. I too will adopt that mindset from here on out.
But I’m still pissed now.
Is playing smart too much to ask?
i agree with Silverandblue
when I played football(bear in mind that was many moons ago) I was always told “that if the ball hits your hands, then you can catch it”. Simple as that

The Over throw of Dez by Romo in the Endzone. The next play? A sack then I do believe a Punt.

I agree
Dez had a step on his man and if the pass was there, it would’ve been six.
And a TD by #88 would’ve also helped my fantasy team too.
