I still am looking forward to seeing what happens the rest of this season, especially to see what Dez Bryant can do and what some of the other young players are able to do. I would like to see AOA get a start at FS as soon as his ankle is better for one. I have just about given up on playoff hopes or anything like that out of this season, so looking on the bright side of things, we will be one of the most talented teams in the league and with a very high draft pick on top of that. So I wanted to see what everyone else thinks about what to use the first pick on or maybe the first two picks. I have some names at the positions of people that would be ideal, but more just a position that might be best. Of course, as the cowboys have always done, they will take the best player available.
Personally I think we should use our top draft pick on a halfback or a defensive back. Having a guy like Mark Ingram or maybe Demarco Murray at running back could probably help us out a lot. One of the reasons our offense isn't getting it done is because we just can't run the ball this year. We have gone from one of the best running teams in the league to almost the worst. Trading away one of our backs would be a must if this was an option in the draft though and the prime suspect would probably be Marion Barber, just because of his age.
Getting more ball hawks in the defensive backfield is a must. A guy like Patrick Peterson of LSU (who apparently is popping up on mock drafts as a Junior already) or Prince Amukamara of Nebraska would be a great fit I think. Eventually Newman is going to need a replacement as he is getting up there in years. Those two will probably be gone in the first 5 picks from the looks of it though, so maybe a safety would be a great pick as well. Like Deandre McDaniel of Clemson or Deunta Robinson of UNC.
I know we need to shore up the O-line but I think the best fit for us is a guy already attending college in the Area at TCU. Marcus Cannon, OT for TCU seems like a great prospect. I heard someone say that Dallas just doesn't have the guy to just run behind like they used to years ago with Larry Allen playing guard. Marcus Cannon is amazingly athletic for his size (6' 5" - 358 lbs) and a pretty big guy in the first place. They say it is likely he will switch to Guard in the pros though. Having a guy like him up the middle sure sounds like it would be a great asset. He should still be around in the second round from the sound of things.
Anyway, not the ideal conversation in the middle of the regular season and not one I like to have but just looking on the bright side of things, as there hasn't been much of a bright spot this season besides Dez Bryant making a play whenever he touches the ball.
