...doesn't an offensive coordinator ultimately have to answer to the head coach? I never thought that Jason Garrett's play calling was that awful. I DID think that the overall effort and discipline of the team as a whole was just off this year.
Did Jason want to put a hammer down but feel he would step on the HC's toes if he asserted himself that way? Isn't it the head coach that the team takes their personality from in a way? If Wade wasn't into holding players accountable for their sloppiness, how was Jason Garrett supposed to step in there and right that wrong?
Not Trying to defend Garrett, but I really do feel that it is up to the head coach to get players to play clean mistake free football with intensity.
Norv Turner was the laid back to Jimmy's insane. It was Jimmy's team. Ernie Stautner was the energy to Landry's calm, but Landry was the man... see what I mean? The head coach runs the ship and sets the tempo.
I don't think Dallas will win many games this year even with Jason Garrett - but maybe, maybe they can stop embarrassing the franchise and it's fans and start playing with some passion.
Garrett's press conference was actually a strange breath of fresh air. He actually said the right things in a way. Will he follow through with that and start getting in players faces? Will he cut someone to make a point? Lets hope Jerry at least gives him that leeway, otherwise it'll be more of the same. Players respecting the coach in lip service only.
