Observations on the Eagles game....
Another close loss in a season where I am reduced to counting moral victories...we had a shot to win this one and we clearly weren't the better team...so I came away from this game feeling ok in that we showed some heart and were competitive while still managing to improve our draft position....
Here are some thoughts from the game....
- During the Don Meredith tribute before the game - Andy Reid removes his cap while Romo stands there, hat on, smacking his gum....nuff said about that.
- Opening play - TNew gets beat again....sigh....Philly had pulled the same thing the previous 2 games....I hope TNew is let go this offseason even if we don't have a suitable replacement....I really would rather watch somebody new get beat in the hopes that he is growing into a better player...because that clearly is not the case with TNew.
- Marty B getting involved finally - good to see him being used in the passing game....a couple more inches on that Kitna pass and he would have had a TD...this guy really should be creating mismatches.
- Clock mismanagement at the end of the first half...i thought that we had time to clock it, get another play off and still have the TO left....we at least had time to try another sideline pass or try something in the endzone...we really settled way too easily for the FG.
- On the same FG note - I am surprised that Buehler does not kick the ball when Philly took the time out to 'ice' him...why not take a practice kick??? Had he missed that kick - everyone would have questioned him not using the opportunity to take a swing at it.
- I like the way Choice hits the hole...Felix has this hop + sideskip thing....
- Austin.....was he on the volleyball team at Monmouth??? Way too many of those this year
- Bradie James has only 2 INTs in 8 seasons???.....how is that possible??
- Eagles were jumping routes for the majority of the game and the first deep pass to Austin by my account is with 5:33 left in the 4thQ.
Next 2 games are very winnable....looks like we finish the season 6-10

austin had all to kill’em with a stop and go but garrett was afraid to throw the ball, seriously you didn’t test joselio hanson who was ashamed by crayton last year, crayton!
The lack of long passes had more to do with timing.
The pocket collapsed before the long route developed. The real problem is not being “afraid to throw the ball” but a deficient O-line.
vir prudens non contra ventum mingit
sure seems like it...
I railed on Romo recently for that and thought there may’ve been something to that complaint after Kitna went deep a few times in the Giants game. But the deep passes have been few under Kitna and I think at this point, the oline is the common denominator. A qb that spends more than 3 games behind this line is going to get happy feet. Pocket awareness is also hard when it seems like quite often, the line just allows a guy to come in free. Delayed blitzes rock us.
Maybe a different offense could succeed with our line. GB does a really good job gettng their receivers open quickly on those slant routes, so even though their ol sucked recently, they still put up points. This year I haven’t been paying too much attention to them, but in previous years, they’ve done well with a subpar ol.
But Garrett’s offense in the past was more predicated on downfield routes. It seems like recently (in large part because the penalties are down and run game has been marginally better), we’ve done a much better job moving the ball without the big play. Even in the philly game where we had a horrific run game, we still put up a decent number of points. And would’ve had more if our receivers didn’t blow a few opportunities.
Lost me on the Romo hat-majoring in minors
Fg b4 half-so what? Anything in our play indicate we could score a Td <13 secs w 0 TO?
Buehler practice kick-he made the real one, that’s all I care abt
We live life forwards and understand it backwards

my point on his hat was that he should have shown more respect IMO....
on the FG – i just felt like we were way too happy to kick the FG….if you have a shot in the endzone take it…if there is nothing – throw it through the endzone….in what turned out to be a 3pt game – that could have made the difference….basically we gave up a play
you’re right on the kick – he made it…i just think if you have a chance to take a practice swing – you should take it….if you are playing golf and someone offers you a practice putt – you take it dont you??
go Kitna!
not removing the hat was inexcusable
Like Meredith was, Romo is the face of the franchise. That is a very small fraternity. Is showing a base level of respect just too much to ask?

yes
expecting Romo to act like a respectful adult makes me a hater.
Why should he leave his hat on during a moment of silence Terry? If I have noticed anyone else doing it, I would call them out as well. You seem to think that being thoughtless, rude and immature is appropriate for Romo. Good for you.
Why can’t you address the facts and have a discussion instead of attacking us with “hater” which is the most tired, thoughtles cliche on this board.

Terry, I know they don't like Romo, but this knee jerk response just makes
everything worse. Why go there?
I don't mind Romo
but he should have taken his hat off out of respect for a predecessor. Everyone in the stadium should have.

Either way, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion without being
labeled a “hater.” At least use the term when it actually means something rather than throwing it around all the time.
I do mind the fact that any criticism of Romo
is monitored and the discussion is reduced to the lowest common denominator.

Look, it goes both ways. Those who defend Romo also get lumped
in with Terry and get called far worse things. But it doesn’t help Terry’s cause in defending Romo to jump in with that kind of meaningless response any more than it makes me want to talk to anyone who knee jerk labels me an apologist or a ball licker or who asks me what Romo’s jock smells like. It says more about the idiots who say things like that than it does about me.
typical ball licking response I would
expect from an apoligist who thinks Romo’s jock smells like lavender

my responses
1. I agree with you. That is weak on Romo’s part. Let’s leave it at that.
2. That must also be blamed on the coaches. They should have been prepared. No way you cut T-New over that or anything else he has or hasnt done this season.
3 and 4. No opinion.
5. Man, you are really looking for things to complain about, aren’t you.
6. Completely agree. Choice can churn yards in crowds better than Felix.
7-9. I concur.

on the deep pass
maybe the coaches did drill them for it, and the team players just choked it up. It happens.

drilling in practice
and gathering your players right as they take the field (or when the defensive calls are sent in) and saying look for the deep ball are two different things.

Kinda bothered me too
but not as much as if it was the National Anthem…because that is for sure the protocol. Looking back, I can’t even think of another ‘tribute-esque’ time where other people did. I did notice Reid did too. Romo should have, but I wouldn’t have been in a tizzy over it. Even if it was Roy lol…well maybe, haha j/k.
Since the middle of last week I was wondering
if they would make the same first play as they did against Washington.
Shouldn’t our coaches have been thinking of it too?

- "By choice! Man"
Even worse.
We should have played both safeties 30 yards deep for the first play. That was the second game they threw a bomb on the first play. A 15 yard run is better than a 60 yard bomb.
Didn’t Chicago play their safeties deep almost the whole game?

*That was the *third* game they threw a bomb on the first play. They did it twice before.

Broddus said on his pregame show,
Philly would throw the bomb off the bat. The only people not expecting it was the Dallas D.
Lock n Load
But I blame the loss on Romo for not taking his hat off.
Damn that Romo, he lost us another one.
Lock n Load
saying he acted like a knob isn't saying he is responsible for the loss
nobody is suggesting what you are purporting to lampoon

Well maybe
they thought Hey Dware and Rat can handle it.
You have to fix the pass rush or the secondary…..
Definitely you have to take a shot deep before the 4TH QUARTER. Even if you go max protect, just make them respect the deep ball some. Also, I think you’re going a little to far on TNEW. Getting beat deep by DJax isn’t the most shameful thin in the world. the dude’s FAST. I think TNew can still play. Also, why is TNew left one on one with DJax? Isn’t that on the coaches?
