[UPDATE:] Donovan McNabb Benched For Sunday's Game Against The Cowboys
Earlier in the week, BTB warned that the revenge we seek against Donovan McNabb may have to wait. Word has come in from various news outlets that Donovan McNabb has been benched in favor of Rex Grossman for this Sunday's game at Jerry World.
Kelli Johnson, of CSN Washington brought the news first via twitter:
Now, this has not been confirmed as of yet by any member of the Washington front office, however Jason Reid of the Washington Post has a heated reaction from McNabb's agent. Via the Redskins Insider:Just learned that Rex Grossman is starting over McNabb Sun in Dallas; I'm told Redskins Lockeroom is divided and guys are extremely upset
"Disrespectful is probably not strong enough of a word," Fletcher N. Smith, McNabb's representative, said in a lengthy phone interview Friday. "Donovan has handled himself with nothing but class, not just in Washington but as an ambassador for the league. To treat him this way ... it's beyond disrespectful."
Players inside the lockerroom are reportedly very upset. Remember, Kyle Shanahan just last night said that Grossman was not getting extra work to prepare for the start. Mike Jones, of TBD.com reported as much here:
There’s no difference this week than last week, so there’s nothing really to talk about," Shanahan said. "We’ve prepared this week the same as we did last week."
Shanahan said that contrary to reports, backup Rex Grossman hasn’t received an increased workload in practice over the course of the last two weeks as preparation to take McNabb's job.
"No. It's the same as always," Shanahan said of Grossman's reps in practice.
Fantasy Football owners of the Cowboys defense everywhere just did a Triple Lindy with the prospects of Sexy Rexy lining up behind center.
Hat Tip to First Responder on the Scene, Kegbearer for dropping the info first in the FanShots.
[UPDATE: 12/17/10 1:26p EST]
Mike Shanahan has confirmed the report. From espn.com
The Washington Redskins plan to start Grossman on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, coach Mike Shanahan said Friday.

Man, I won't be able to go outside all Christmas week if that happens
I’ve been on my radio show all season clowning Skins fans about McNabb- that’s where I’ve been using the hot garbage on a stick line… if Rex beats us, I am in for some serious bashing.

Career, as in the most INTs he's ever thrown in a single game.

This defense will make either guy look like Peyton Manning
But to me, McNabb is the scarier of the two.
Don't believe everything you think.
Scarier of the two...yes, but we're not talking about their faces ;)

And where will Shannahan coach next year?

Disarray - Fuming Redskins
Had to read the Redskin sight, they are livid – too funny. Same posts and analysis going on here a while back.
NFLN: The BENCHING of Donovan McNabb (insert scary music)
like it’s some epic tragedy. Well, I guess to sports media it will be.
the think tank crews they had assigned to Brett Favre all got the blackberry messages at the same time
Like an outbreak- redirect CDC to Dallas!

One of my best friends is a Skins fan
and we watch the Boys/Skins games together, so I just txted him and said I was going to offer just a friendly wager on the game but now that Sexy Rexy is starting, I don’t think the bet would be fair at all…lol!
In Romo we Trust
According to Vegas, that makes Romo worth five times more than McNabb
Before Romo was hurt in the loss to the Giants, the Cowboys were 11-point home favorites over Jacksonville for the following Sunday. By midweek, the line had tumbled to six points, making Romo’s injury (or health, depending on your point of view) worth about five points.

I think Sunny Boy Shanahan has a hard on for Mcnabb.
Daddy is letting him run the show on the O.
Lock n Load
Loving the reaction from Hogs Haven
This week should give us a season low for points allowed since we’re facing the worst QB/offense on our schedule so far. Even Shaun Hill had Calvin Johnson.

Dallas D on fantasy just got better

Loving the fact that I picked up Dallas D last week for week 16. They just became a must start for week 15 too…lol the yahoo projection just jumped almost 4 pts. Thanks Shanny…

I think it's pretty clear Shanahan is angling for a better draft pick
I don’t think Snyder fires him with that much money left on his contract…so I can imagine Shanahan is hoping for better luck (Luck?!) next year.
Interesting parallel with the Cowboys where Garrett is playing to win and keep the job, so he plays Kitna instead of McGee.

Grossman and Anderson/Skelton
in back to back weeks. Bring them on!
Sick of the crying.
It’s always “Donovan carries himself with class, Donovan’s been disrespected”, blah, blah, blah. The blame is always on someone else. Stop your crying loser, and look in the mirror.
I refuse to tiptoe through life, only to arrive safely at death.
His agent said those things...
Donovan always been a pretty stand up guy whether you like him or not.
Go Cowboys.....Go Bulls.....
Why would you give a guy a contract extension and then bench him?
Just another strange move by the Redskins. Even if it’s stipped strangely, you still have to think thats just one dumb move ontop of another one.
AFB Condensed- New name, same flavor.
Quoting yourself doesn't require your own name attached to it. I'm going to assume if there isn't anyone else's name attached it's yours.
Is this a power struggle between coach and owner?
I don’t get to any other sites, so I don’t have a feel for what’s going on in Washington (heck, I also figured Wade would not get canned ’til after the season), but I was wondering if the McNabb extension was more a Snyder move, and Shanahan is telling him to stuff it?
I have nothing to base it on, other than not being able to figure out what else could explain this move. Right now, the ’skins are working really hard to claim the title of Worst Run NFL Franchise.
If at first you don't succeed - blame someone else.
I don't think even the closest Skins follower
knows what is going on. It’s beyond bizarre.
Don't believe everything you think.
I think even with the Raiders and Cowboys woes the last few years...
that the Redskins have consistently been the worst team since Dan Snyder took over. At least Al Davis and Jerry Jones can blame old age on their woes.

yes - Grossman grossed-out that day
only completing 15 of 32 passes for 195 yards.
Sacked 3 times and threw 3 INTs.
QB rating at the end of the day: 27.5
I can hardly wait for Sunday!!
