What if.....

This is yet another tribute/remembering thread for the late, great "Dandy" Don Meredith. But with a twist.

We have a very large contingent on BTB - some old enough to see Don at the Cotton Bowl, some who are under the impression the Cotton Bowl has always been at JerryWorld.

I asked my mother if she had ever gotten to see Don play with Dallas in the 60's and her answer was evidently clear enough to me - "I didn't follow football until I was in high school."(She graduated in '72)

So, with that being said, I put some thought in to this and decided to get an opinion and suggestion or two from you, the BTB regulars....

If there was one professional football player you wish you could've seen play BEFORE YOU WERE BORN, who would it be and why? (You can be Cowboys specific and/or NFL/AFL/AAFL specific.)

Have fun with this, as I know I will be with mine.

First off, I was born in '79, so my options for Cowboys is somewhat limited, but not entirely. I would go with Don Meredith, and no, I'm not being biased due to the events of his passing today. Don was, what some consider, the first "flashy" QB in the league, maybe second behind Joe Namath.

Obviously, folks here in DFW didn't get to see a majority of Jets games, but Don was definitely the next best thing. I really don't know if Don had a "coming out" party or what not in the league, but the season they went 12-2 and lost in the League Championship was definitely a season to remember. I've had the privilege of seeing Danny White, Troy Aikman, and Tony Romo play in person. I was just a baby when Staubach was at the tail end of his career. So I would want to complete the Dallas QB Quintella by seeing "Dandy" Don.

As far as the NFL goes, I'd absolutely would have love to see Dick Butkus play. I've always been a MILB fan and he was the originator of the menacing middle linebacker. It wouldn't have hurt to see Gayle Sayers play with Butkus as well.

Your turn.

RABBLE ON!!!!
