Miles Austin, Sr. on why his son chose 19 to be his jersey number.
"He had an angel on his shoulder," he said, referring to the late Jeanne Austin, Miles’ grandmother.
"No. 19 was her favorite number; she was born on the 19th of the month. Miles has taken it as his number. The Cowboys wanted to give him No. 80 as a rookie; he turned it down. They offered him No. 88, but he didn’t want any part of that with Michael Irvin and all.
"He wanted No. 19. His grandmother was one of his biggest fans."

no. 14
He had to take 14 because of Keyshawn right?? Then gave it up for 19 when the GREAT BRAD JOHNSON arrived!!!
"No room for toe dippers....."
no - Miles came in 2006
Keyshawn was gone and Johnson was not there yet…..
that does make a good question though….why did he take #14 ?
I think
Dad might have his numbers mixed up or is a little confused on that one. I just don’t see it happening.
really?? they gave #88 to Antonio Bryant....
dad is probably correct on that one….irvin’s number hasn’t been off limits
I did forget about Bryant
I know we don’t actually retire numbers but that some of them just seemed off limits, guess not…
Austin wore 80 at Monmouth...I think the kicker had 19...
He was there the year before Austin came so he couldnt get #19 if Im correct.

First Take
he was on ESPN this morning and Dana Jacobson asked him about his number and he just said that he wore 14 in college but when Brad came in Miles gave up that number for him and took 19 instead, but he didn’t say anything about his grandmother. He did say he was offered and turned down 88.
