STOP IT!!! The WR situation is fine. NO WR in 1st 3 ROUNDS
So First i see Quincy take Golden Tate in the First Round of the Site-Wide Seven Round Mock Draft. MIKE IUPATI was drafted 4 spots AFTER. Then you hear about people talking Jibba Jabba about how Roy is no good and we need to get rid of him this, that and whatever.
THOMAS
J
FOOLERY
All of you relax and have faith. Remember the Tampa Game? Remember the first Philly game? Just give it all one second. WE have so many things coming to light that we can chance the Roy Williams thing for another year.
There's nothing wrong with a developmental year in camp. Hurd and Ogletree can use the camp time. Crayton's got some gears left, and right now we need to focus on the Willaims/Austin Tandem.
"BUT ROY SUCKS"
"HE DROPS EVERYTHING"
He blocks better, and quite frankly, he and Tony BOTH look lost sometimes.
You wanna worry about someone? Martellus Bennett!!! There you go...i just broke your finger to make the pain go away over the flesh wound...hee hee hee, ho ho ho.
Honestly, there are BIGGER let downs on our team.
HERE'S WHAT OUR DRAFT NEEDS TO LOOK LIKE:
1. Mike Iapati, OG
2. Earl Thomas, S
3. Ciron black, OT
I'll take T.J. Ward, S from Oregon in the 3rd if Thomas is gone already.

This is not 1995 Nebraska, WR’s are expected to catch the ball not block. It’ also unlikely that Hurd is even with Dallas next year. Austin is a great WR and Crayton is a good slot guy. Williams is slow, doesn’t run crisp routes and drops to many balls. Ogletree looked good as a rookie but he didn’t go undrafted for no reason. He’s going to take time to develop.
As far as your mock draft goes Thomas won’t even make it to our 1st round pick.

Agreed
If Jerry lets Roy Williams go its admitting he failed and he will never do that. So, no matter who they pick the first few rounds, they arent going to start over Roy Williams. Please stop, its just not going to happen as much as you might want it to.

WAIT, what?!?!?
ElFURIOSO – Are you suggesting Earl Thomas will be available in the 2nd round???? If so, you need to follow the draft better.
Or if you are saying these are candidates for our first round pick, then are you suggesting we draft Ciron Black in the first round???? That’s just as crazy!

Gots Chocolate to EAT
SON…hasn’t anyone heard about MAKING MOVES in a draft? Jerry is a VERY GOOD Draft Monger…if push came to shove I am highly confident in our Owner/GM/Tsar to make some magic happen. One of the top seven guys wants to draft down, all it takes is for one mover to shake the line up and everyone’s mock goes to hell.
Secondly, we can’t use our 1st from next year and maybe our 3rd from this to land somewhere around the low 20’s? It’s not science folks. Jerry built a stadium in a recession, and the greatest TV/Man-Made Marvels of the world (like I’ll pass on the Eiffel tower, and i just Wicki’d it…they keep changing).

Earl Thomas won't make it to our pick
in the first round, let alone the second.
Do your homework, brah.
However, I do agree with your premise about not selecting a WR in the first 3 rounds.

chances of drafting a safety with the first two picks of the draft are slim to none...
not when we have Hamlin under contract and Sensabaugh possibily getting a new contract. I think Jerry will wait one more season on Sensabaugh before giving him a new deal, or at least mid season.

Even though there have been massive reports that...
Hamlin could be a casualty.
I wouldn’t be suprised if Dallas drafted a safety if they thought it would be a major improvement over Hamilin.

the only way i see the cowboys drafting a safety this year
is if one the top few drop to our 1st rd pick… and i wouldn’t be against it 1 bit, cause playmaking safeties are more than important nowadays

I agree.
If it’s an instant improvement, I think they’d do it.

Seriously
We need to cut Flo and make Roy an OT.
by Conjunction on Feb 4, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
The WRs are not fine..open your eyes my man....
Im not suggesting cutting RW, but we need an injection of more speed at WR who can also serve as a PR. Crayton is servicable, but nothing more than a #3 or #4 WR at this point…..Hurd is gone, Ogletree is still an unknown. Nothing wrong with getting another weapon on offense to compete with Ogletree. Jerry wants the SB in his house next season in the worst way so don’t be surprised if gets himself more playmakers on the offensive side of the ball this year.

there are more important positions than wr
if romo can’t get the ball off, it doesn’t matter….
however, i wouldnt be against a speed guy to return punts/kicks after the 3rd round
by CowboysFan4Life on Feb 4, 2010 7:58 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Agree with the theme, if not all of the points.
I too find the criticism of Roy a little overboard. The crime is that he is paid as a #1 receiver and he appears to perform as a #2. He still represents a threat. WR is farther down the needs list than Oline, Oline again, safety, punt returner, kick returner, and NT, in terms of overall performance and injury insurance. As with any position, if there is a high upside candidate available at receiver where the Cowboys pick in the first 3 rounds, take them. IMO, any prospect you take in the first 3-4 rounds need to have starting level potential.
As for your mock, in no way would I endorse taking Ciron Black. He has guard written all over him and I would not put a large bet on him evolving into a quality starter.

He's not a #2
Not in any universe. The man had a catch rate of 44%. That’s unbelievably bad.

ageed..... on black he is a guard..late 2nd or 3rd round

i too agree with the idea...
the wr situation is FINE… fine to the matter that we have more important positions to upgrade through the draft….
the only wr i would take would be a slash type that could return punts/kicks….AFTER the 3rd round
with miles austin and roy williams (i can live with the fact that he MIGHT, just MIGHT want to focus on his game this summer after getting shown up big time) and patrick crayton and the thought of what ogletree can be…. im fine with the WR position (not to mention we have the best TE and some pretty good backup te’s
what we need to focus on and upgrade/getdepth at is…
1. OL across the board
2. OL across the board
3. DL
4. CB/S
i’d like to see an early OL who could logically push for a starting position (maybe not win right away, but at least push our old heads to the limit)
next maybe another OL who might be able to push, with a lot of upside
before the 3rd round ends, i’d like to see a CB picked
what is really exciting about this draft, is that we already have 2 or 3 picks from last year that didn’t get to play or didn’t get enough practice to play…. jason williams, stephen hodge, brandon williams, victor butler all with a summer of the weight program and learning under their belt… that excites me more than watching the super bowl or the draft this year

I'm such an idiot what was i thinking
Forget the fact that until Austin broke out there was a legit threat at WR on the field, because Roy is such a great blocker!!!
Oh and good luck getting Earl Thomas with a late second rounder. LOL!

You are missing the point...
I don’t think we need a guy to come in and dominate as a #2 or #1 WR. What we do need is a guy who can upgrade our slot play and offer some game-breaking ability in the punt and kickoff return games. To find a guy with the necessary abilities (good-great speed, great agility, good-great acceleration), you are going to have to probably draft a guy with one of our higher picks (4th round or sooner).
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Not sure I agree
Dallas is not a 3-WR base offense.
If the primary contingency is having a dependable #3 for those obvious passing downs, it suggests we’d be in those situations often enough to heap praise on the slot guy.
Unfortunately, that’s not a positiveoutcome for any OC.
So, I think Dallas DOES have to look hard at RW and figure out if he and Romo can still become a legitimate and dependable combination (hasn’t happened yet in 1.5 seasons and a full off season). If not, defenses will continue to double up on Austin and create tough releases for Witten while they blitz Romo into submission. Of course, everyone will say it’s the O-line’s fault when the defenses bring 6 guys, but that’s another story altogether.

Don't get me wrong...
When I am talking about the kind of guy we should draft and what we should look for, I am purely talking in the immediate short-term as far as the WR position. I definitely hope that the guy we would draft would eventually be able to develop into a good starter. In the short term though, unless Roy is cut, I don’t see a drafted guy (unless we draft him with our first or maybe second pick) moving into that starter’s role. Therefore, when looking to draft this year, I would like a guy who could immediately contribute as a third receiver and return specialist. Down the road though, I would certainly hope the guy could develop into a number two type receiver.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

totally agree
and if Earl Thomas fall to us on second i thin i will wet my pants ha, but well, the point is the one about the receiver and i’m totally with you, and i think roy will be better (and i hope it), he had a 1000 yard season, Bill Walsh used to say soemthing like: if he do it before, then can do it again, i’m not saying he is gonna explode, but maybe he’ll offer us a good season as a 2 receiver

We may be strong enough to go BPA when it comes to the draft, depending on if they like Brewster or not
If it just so happens to be a receiver like Golden Tateand there isn’t an O lineman of equal value, that’s who it is.
I agree O line is our most pressing concern, but we do have Free, and maybe we have a couple of other players capable of stepping in that are already on the roster. We’re not desperate enough to reach for anybody, imho.

How will they have ANY idea what Brewster can give them?
He hurt his leg 7 minutes after he inked his deal…and he’s spent the off season eating fried macaroni and cheese. It’s a good thing Gramatica is gone or Brewster might mistake him for a chimichanga.
They simply can’t bank on anything from Brewster because they won’t know bupkiss about what he could contribute before the draft.

Everything I read about Brewster prior to last year's draft
said that he was very, very raw. He played in a spread offense, and was going to need some time to develop even if he hadnt gotten hurt. The injury just puts his development back a year. I’m expecting nothing out of him again in 2010. If we get a lick of production, it will be gravy in my opinion.
