The Inevitable yet Spontaneously Elementary Truth…
The Inevitable yet Spontaneously Elementary Truth…
So everyone seemed to hate my last article, the NO WR in the first 3 rounds idea, the Earl Thomas is going to fall to us in the second round…yet I meant making a move for those two potential first round players.
I was laughed at when I suggested Jerry couldn’t POSSIBLY put together an absurd deal, for a lowly, confused and desperate bottom-of-the-barrel franchise, that was too good to refuse.
It’s official: FOOTBALL SEASON is over. The #1 I thing I take from this past season? The need to improve. Remember how we all felt after the 2007 season, even better, remember how we felt after the 2006 season (forget the damn snap in Seattle already)? Think about the three-year cycle we were in:
2006-did something we “weren’t” supposed to do
2007-did something GREAT but fell short
2008-completely fell short of expectations
2009-did something we “weren’t” supposed to do
2010-????
Think about what we did in between ’06-’07 and ’08-‘09. We made it our purpose to change, to expect better, to believe we could achieve more with change.
So here’s what I think will determine our appetite for change:
So everyone is on board with Doug Free as our LT: Ok, so Doug is going to protect our franchise QB blind side. So if Free is the LT, why put so much emphasis on the OT position this year in the draft? I thought there was a resounding voice when Cowboy Nation stood behind Colombo after the Minnesota game: “he came back from a broken leg.” Why not solidify the interior with Iupati?
The only picks that are going to matter this year are our first three: OL, some form of Safety and what I think has been holding us back, a top return man.
Forget the Return man; put Tashard Choice as our kick/punt returner: he gets more touches, and oh wait he’s in the field amongst bodies flying and groups of people crashing in on him, but wait, they aren’t 300 lbs Defensive linemen and top rate LBs and DBs? Sounds like a possible green light situation.
Admitting you were wrong about Ken Hamlin is going to be easier than admitting you were wrong about Roy Williams…so far: YES CONJUNCTION the make Roy an OL was hilarious…but this is one of those points we need to address. Expect more and get someone who wants to be more at this position.
Dip the ink in the Free Agency: hmm I wonder if we can find some help at NT and maybe someone for Spears if we can’t re-sign him http://www.footballsfuture.com/2010/fa/dl.html
Again guys, the need to improve is the best form of strategy here. I’m sure I could quote “eye of the tiger” or “hearts on fire” but I think we all get the point.
I hope everyone has a great offseason and I hope to hear plenty from anyone who is near a training facility watching some prospects train.

I think this could be dead on accurate, my line of thinking for our first 3 picks goes like this.
rd 1 27 My pick for sometime now has been Maurkice Pouncey C Florida 6-5 318, has the size, mobility and power that the Cowboy`s covet. Good work ethic and no character concerns. leadership qualities. can play LG,RG,C,RT and will be the eventual replacement to Gurode at C, can upgrade Kosier and huge upgrade ofver Proctor as backup C. 2 players that would cause the Cowboy`s to ponder would be Trent Williams OT Oklahoma 6-5 318 and Mike Iupati OG Idaho 6-5 325.
rd 2 59 Nate Allen FS South Florida 6-1 205 / Morgan Burnett FS Georgia Tech 6-1 210 / Reshad Jones SS Georgia 6-2 212 / Jerome Murphy CB South Florida 6-1 191 are all players that could be available and would fill a need in rd 2.
rd 3 90 At rd 3 what returners could be available? Mardy Gilyard WR Cincinnati 6-0 179 / Javier Arenas CB Alabama 5-09 195 / Andre Roberts WR Citadel 5-11 192 / Jordan Shipley WR Texas 6-0 190
my full mock
rd 1 27 Maurkice Pouncey C Florida
rd 2 59 Morgan Burnett FS Georgia Tech
rd 3 90 Mardy Gilyard WR Cincinnati
rd 4 127 Mike Neal DT Purdue
rd 6 200 Thomas Welch OT Vanderbilt
rd 7 238 E.J. Wilson DE North Carolina
I would be pretty suprised...
if Gilyard lasted that long.

As would I...
Although if he runs slower than expected, it is possible with the concerns about his hands.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

What's so spontaneous or elementary about this "truth"?
Hmm? HMM?!
I kid.
I wouldn’t mind seeing us take Iupati, LG is certainly an issue that eventually needs to be adressed, but it probably won’t happen if we stay put at 27. We also need another OT(Free’s one half of the solution), and a back up center to push Gurode(I like Andre, but Proctor is awful). Assuming we take care of at least one of these needs adequately in the draft or free agency, I’m good.
Epic Fail since 1985
