What To Expect in 2010?
This years Cowboys was a great collection of talent with veterans like Ware, Romo, and Brooking playing solid, and new talent arising in the likes of Austin, Spencer, and Jenkins.
The Offense:
YPG: 399.4 2nd in the NFL second to the Saints
Passing: 267.9 ypg good enough for 6th in the NFL, behind the likes of pass happy NO, NE, HOU
Rushing: 131.4 ypg with an average 4.8 per carry, this three headed monster at RB is one of the best in the game, and should be around for a while, if they stay healthy.
What does it all mean: The Cowboys offensive production was really sparked by the great play of both Miles Austin and Tony Romo. While Choice, Barber and Jones ran by, and through anyone in their way.
The Defense:
YPG: 315.9 This is good enough for 9th best in the NFL, however they were ranked 2nd in points allowed an outstanding 15.6 PPG.
Pass Defense: This young battered secondary was ranked 20th in pass YPG, but ranked 10th in passing TD's allowed with only 19 to a 26th ranked 11 interceptions.
Rush Defense: Ranked 4th in the NFL with a 90.5 YPG average this aggressive D-Line and Line Backing crew showed their worth, only allowing 4.0 YPC tied for 8th in the league.
What does it all mean: While there is certainly room for improvement in the secondary, both the Veterans and Rookies among our front 7 showed power shutting down the run.
This Cowboys team that started off slow with a record of 3-2 coming out of week 7 with a power ranking of 19th in the league turned it on in the second half climbing as high a 7th in the power ranking after week 13's defeat of the Saints. This bodes well for a successful 2010 showing that as the younger players got a chance to progress the team improved (I know DUH). With a good draft, and maybe a free agent or trade to upgrade our secondary we can expect an even more improved team with another playoff appearance this year, and god willing a super bowl victory in the none to distant future.

The offensive line really needs to be improved. I think that Trent Williams will fall to us at 27 and he would be a young upgrade. If we could find a guard in the mid rounds it would be good. You can always draft a kicker in the late rounds or UDFA. I really don’t think the secondary was that bad. Newman has a few good years left, Jenkins is a solid pro who’s getting better. The safeties don’t make a lot of plays but they don’t give up many big plays either.
True but that Minnesota game really showed as well as ou inability to stop a speed pas rush the a weakness in our secondary shown by the way Favre and co. shredded it

Your going to have games where your team gets beat on both sides of the ball. Favre shredded a lot of teams this year. The secondary isn’t perfect but unless Thomas falls to us at 27 we’re not drafting secondary help.
im not saying first round pick or a draft pick at all
im just saying something has to be done

I would love it if we drafed Trent Williams
I’m somewhat biased, but the idea of Williams and Free as our bookends in the near future is pretty good, imho.
And I agree, we’re actually pretty strong in the secondary. Jenkins and Scandrick are both young guys who proved we can count on them, and Newman’s still got some gas left in the tank. Maybe we can upgrade the safety position, but we’re not as bad as some people think. Yeah, Ken Hamlin isn’t a playmaker, but he certainly hasn’t been terrible.

I’m not sold that Williams can play LT but I have more confidence in Free to play that position so drafting Williams to play RT is a good idea. We still need guard help but I don’t think Iupati will fall to 27 and its to early to take Pouncey.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Free at LT in the next year or so, maybe starting at RT until Flo’s done for. Bring in Williams to be the back up, cut ties with Columbo.

Favre beat a tiring defense
Their defense was killing us and Tony wasn’t staying on the field long enough to rest our D. The way to beat Favre is to keep him off the field. Our offense couldn’t do that in the Minnesota game. The Oline is just showing signs of getting old.
All 3!!!
We need to get younger on the Oline, get some more safeties and a kicker

I really don’t think we need to spend a high pick on a safety unless one falls to us. If Thomas falls to our 1st round pick or Burnett or Jones fall to us at 59. For now our safeties will do and I want to see what Michael Hamlin can do.
My plan is to cut Adams this year and replace him with Free. This is the best time to get away from Adams’ contract. Draft Trent Williams to be a backup this year. Then cut Colombo next year and Williams start at RT. We still need to find a guard in the 2nd or 3rd round.
As far as kicker goes there’s some good ones in FA like Graham and Rackers or we could draft one like Tiffin, Swenson, or Lawrence.
They need to continue working on OL
In 2007 they drafted James Martin in the 3rd rd and Doug Free in the 4th rd.
In 2008 they drafted…no offensive linemen.
In 2009 they drafted Brewster in the 3rd rd.
3 picks in 3 years, and only 3 out of a total of 26 picks in that time.
Martin didn’t pan out. Free showed, at the least, he can be a starter at RT, and the jury is out on Brewster due to a serious injury. That means those 3 drafts have produced one starting quality OT.
With very few holes in the roster, finding future starters for the line should be the top priority. They need to get another good tackle and a guard or center.
FS is the second biggest area of need. Ken Hamlin isn’t producing any turnovers, and with 3 CB’s who can cover man to man, the Cowboys need a FS who can make big plays. I’d like to see one of the top picks used for FS.
