Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

From ESPN:

Bryant will have a personal workout for NFL teams March 30 in his hometown of Lufkin, Texas, before going to Valley Ranch.

Bryant, projected to be the first wide receiver taken in the upcoming NFL draft, did not work out at the NFL scouting combine or at Oklahoma State's pro day because of a recent hamstring injury, which has given several teams pause.

I'm not big on WRs in the 1st round,

but if for some reason this kid falls I would be on him like a duck on a June bug.

get used to the idea drafting a WR a 27 is a real possibilty…

hindsight is always 20/20

and Harvin has only played one year, I think the jury is still out on him as being the real deal.

That being said, heading into the draft, I would have never taken Harvin in the first rd because he wasn’t clean enough. I just personally don’t like taking risks with first rd picks, the draft is a crap shoot enough even with clean players.

If Dallas has him as top 15 player

and thinks he ok, then they would be stupid not to take him at #27. There is no lock in any draft. His problem was being young and stupid, lying to the NCAA. Hell we have all been there.

in that it is a completely bogus rule, and there is no reason for it.

by JLMax09 on Mar 18, 2010 5:50 PM CDT up reply actions

I read that his suspension wasn't because he'd eaten at Deion's or that Bryant had asked about the agent.

It was purely for his lying to NCAA about whether he’d been at Deion’s house, something I’ve seen plenty of college kids do when they sense they might be in trouble. I don’t like it, and it makes them look bad, to a degree, but it’s something that often clears up with maturity.

Yep, forgive the kid for freaking out, and not wanting to be the next Reggie Bust OJ Mayo…Honestly, I kinda wonder why Deion wasn’t explaining to the kid how to handle this situation when it arose, ya know? As a ‘mentor’, I think he could of had him a little more prepared for when the NCAA found out and was going to question Dez.

Jerry would have pulled the trigger on:
- Andre Johnson in ’03 if he fell;
-
talked to Detroit about Calvin Johnson in ’05. Matt Millen wanted Demarcus Ware. End of call.

They’ll look at elite WRs and would take one if they get the shot. I can’t think of any other WR who would get their interest in the 1st.

I’m not sure there’s going to be any other WR with a 1st round grade on Dallas’ board besides this kid.

Its quite funny though….everyone outside this blog thinks one thing and everyone else thinks another…Chris Mortenson, etc, have said all alone that we are looking for a slot WR in this draft. I think most agree we need OL depth, but many have said all along it wont happen in the first round. Throw safety in there also. If Dez or Golden are there at 27 its a no-brainer. I still think they wont and we will be trading down.

Shipley in the 2nd round is starting to grow on me. He is another player that we would see immediate contributions from.

I don't know how all the smoke and mirrors work in silly season...

but doesn’t bringing him in for a personal visit telegraph our interest to everyone else? It’s not like he is projected to go in the 3rd or 4th and we’re bringing him in for a closer look. One month ago, he was pegged as a sure fire top 10 pick. Then “questions” began to arise and the rumors start floating that he could fall. If we want him to fall to 27, shouldn’t we make an attempt to look disinterested and make it seem as if we would never waste first round currency on such a question mark? I mean, are we really going to glean that much more information about him in a personal visit than is already known?

actually we did that with Ware

But not necessarily. We had Spencer, for example, in for a workout. And Jerry and Wade made it pretty well known that we were aiming for him. Same with Bobby C. Everyone knew Parcells was drooling all over him before the actual draft.

I don't think he's the same guy as Roy.

He plays more like Andre Johnson did in college. I’m not saying he won’t bust, but he was much more explosive in college than Roy… and this is coming from a UT guy.

Roy tended to disappear from big games in college and for some reason ended up being hurt everytime TX played OU.

Bryant took over big games. He pretty much was the single reason that OSU beat Georgia this year.

They have all been on the same page, that all the things that are red flags for Dex Bryant, don’t out weigh his potential.

Todd McShay just said that he’s the most physically gifted WR since Calvin Johnson.

At #27 you pull the trigger on him.

You're probably right

but when people like Pat Kirwan and Michael Lombardi, who are not cranks and are well plugged in, are talking about “off-field issues” you owe it to yourself to check him out more. I’m sure they figured he would be long gone by pick 15, but you never know. I remember Randy Moss’ drop very well. Once a rumor mill gets going, it can be hard to stop.

Denver at #11 seems a fit.

If he gets past the Bengals at #21 he might fall to Dallas. If Randy Moss could fall, I guess any WR can fall.

IMO

I won’t even have hope until he gets past Miami. If he makes it past Seattle’s second pick, then I’ll be thinking “Ok this might happen.” .

Until then I won’t even get my hopes up.

I know one thing...

and the Texas Tech guys are going to get mad, but Bryant has a much higher ceiling than Crabtree.

He’s a better prospect.

I never got why Crabtree was being compared to Fitzgerald, I think that crabtree will be closer to an Anquan Boldin than Fitz.

Here's an exert from CBS NFLDraftScout;

"Oklahoma State wide receiver Bryant is changing his Pro Day workout date, again. Except this time, Oklahoma State isn’t willing to help out. And that could be big trouble for Bryant’s stock with NFL teams. According to Adam Schefter’s report, Bryant and his representatives attempted to schedule a Pro Day on the Oklahoma State campus for March 30 – the day after Sam Bradford’s workout and the day before the dozens of NFL scouts are expected to travel south to Austin, Texas for Colt McCoy and the rest of the Longhorns’ Pro Day. The Oklahoma State athletic department, however, refused to allow Bryant to schedule another Pro Day on campus. Remember, this is a football program, whose head coach, Mike Gundy, had previously been unabashedly supportive of his players. That Gundy and the OSU athletic program are not willing to help their former All-American receiver will be interpreted by some as proof Bryant, while incredibly talented, isn’t worth the trouble. That perception could lead a player with top ten talent to tumble down the draft board come April."

Are you sure nothing else is booked. How many open dates do these fields have.

Spring ball is here and he rescheduled once already. If he is rescheduling because he is rehabbing an injury, fine. If he moved it again to accomdate scouts fine that happens. No biggie.
I also don’t think it’s a red flag that the school can’t accomidate all these changes. They gave him 2 dates already. You just know those academic/antifootball guys are hitching up a storm. Believe me, teams will find away to test him. And if they don’t, well goody for us.

KICK ASS every day!!!

do you guys

Remember a certain WR who when told that the green bay packers were going to select them, said thanks but no thanks? Then he was drafted by the cowboys. I wonder if dez is a boys fan, and if he has hinted to possibly his agent and the boys, that he would like to be a cowboy, at the risk of losing millions? Would be nice, likely? No. nice, yes! This would be huge!

i only know from listening to

The michael irvin show, he said that green bay had a reputation(still does) for being racist, and he had been warned by other players not to go there. He credits reggie white for making it “ok” for african american players to go there.

Ahhhh

well I’d say they still did pretty good that year.

Sterling Sharpe was a beast.

true

But sharpe or irvin, I think it would be hard for someone to say they would do it differently. My comment is nothing but wishful thinking. But, to be honest if any of us had a choice between millions and playing for the iggles, or taking less(more than enough to support your family) to play for the boys, it would be a no brainer. I think these players can have favorites also, and it would be nice if it meant as much to them as it does to us.
