Matt Mosely makes his prediction for Dallas at #27
Mosely claims to have successfully predicted that last 7 Dallas first picks (not sure how that's possibly with all the trade downs last year) by giving three options. Yesterday on the Galloway show on local ESPN radio he gave his three choices for this year.
FS Nate Allen, South Florida
OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland
CB Devin McCourty, Rutgers
I guess I cant say I'm surprised at these options, although I dont think I've seen McCourty to Dallas in too many mocks. Seems to me Allen could be had ten picks later, if he was our top target. I see him go to Dallas in some mocks, but if he gets by us, no one threatens to take him until Cleveland (#38) or Seattle (#40) at the earliest. If we take him at 27, it will be a wasted pick. We could easily trade back to one of those slots and acquire an additional pick and still get our man. I would be disappoined with Allen at 27. But not at 38th, and getting an extra 3rd.
I can see McCourty in the first round. Matter of fact, in my mock, I have him going 30th to Minnesota. Doesnt seem like much of a reach as he is clearly the #3 CB in this draft. But is a 4th CB our top need? I could see taking Haden if he falls (not likely) or maybe even Wilson. Most everything I read about McCourty says he projects to a solid nickle corner. If I'm taking a corner in the first, he needs to project to a starter.
Of this group the guy I like is Bruce Campbell. Not the top ranked OT prospect, but with all the intangibles (many say one of the most athletic OL to come out in the last decade) I would love to give Hudson Houck the chance to work with this kid and see if he can be a franchise Left Tackle. He's a physical freak. Does he have a high bust potential? Maybe. I'd call it medium. Does he have the potential to be a star LT? Absolutely.

i don't mind Allen at 27
If Dallas feels like he can step in and start. I don’t want to get too cute, drop back, then have someone else snag him, all of a sudden we are stuck chosing between some players we don’t really want as much as we wanted Allen.
Maybe he’s predicting the player, not necessarily where we take that player. If he’s been correct with the last seven FIRST picks he’s had to account for some trading down. I would hope that if we DO take Allen (which I’m fine with) it is after a trade down.

if we move back
let’s move back and get two high 2nd’s…Pouncey/Allen anyone?
Campbell

Broaddus said Mosley is full of crap.
He said he didn’t know where he got his info, but he didn’t think Campbell or McCourty were on the radar in the 1st and Nate Allen would be a reach in the 1st. Dallas likes Allen, but thinks he will be around in the mid to late 2nd. To get Allen in the 2nd Dallas will have to move up 15 to 20 spots IMO.
Yeah,
I’d have to see where he correctly picked our players in the past. It’s easy to say you got all the picks right AFTER the fact. I’m not calling him a liar…….oh, wait, yes I am.
Unfortunately...
I think a really good player or 2 will drop to 27. There will certainly be better options available than Campbell, McCourty and Allen.
That of course also means that my Eagles will have a few really good players to choose from at 24, but I’d rather have it both ways, haha.
Who is your ideal target?
My mock has Carlos Dunlap going to Philly, but I’m toying with giving you Weatherspoon in my next version, as he now goes to ’Zona at 26.
In a perfect scenario, Earl Thomas somehow drops to us. In a highly unlikely scenario, CJ Spiller. I’d also like to see an interior OL (Iupati, Pouncey, maybe Anthony Davis falls), perhaps a CB in Kyle Wilson. Lots of options out there. I don’t think DE or LB is as big of a need as most pundits are suggesting, and I believe those positions are deep enough that good ones can be had in rounds 2 and 3. Personally, I wouldn’t touch Dunlap with a stick in round 1.
I'm pretty sure Carlos Dunlap wouldnt let you touch him with a stick
He would probably beat you senseless first.
Wait until after he signs his rookie deal

By the way...
I have the Cowboys in the BGN Mock Draft. Yaaaaaay!!! Top guy on my board – the guy that banged his sister.
What round?
I gave Oakland Tony Washington in the 3rd in my mock. He seemed like an Al Davis kind of dude.
Some nice players, but i really don't like what the Eagles did this offseason on that front...
I really like McCoy and think he’ll be a playmaker, but I don’t think he’s a guy that can touch the ball more than 20 times per game. I would have liked to have seen the Eagles make a stronger run at one of the available free agent running backs that were available, instead of settling for Mike Bell, who I feel gives us nothing. The guys at BGN that like that move seem to think he’s a good short yardage guy, to which I counter that we already have a good short yardage guy in Leonard Weaver, who is probably the best FB in the game.
I’m terrified at the prospect of being one little LeSean McCoy injury away from our starting RB being Mike Bell. I’m actually in the minority on this, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the Eagles grab a RB with an early pick.
Is Weaver a good FB, or did he just get the most carries as a FB?
Serious question. Fullbacks mostly get credit for their offensive statistics when many Fullbacks dont get many opportunities. In the Dallas offense, like many others, the FB touches the ball on a busted play or as the 4th option in the passing game. The Eagles use Weaver as a runner and in a 3rd down set, so he actualy accumulates stats. That doesnt necessarily make him the best, or even a good, FB.
Look at it this way, he played for Seattle, a team that sucks, for 3 years and did next to nothing before coming to Philly and becoming a Pro Bowler, and in Dawk’s mind “probably the best FB in the game.”
By saying Weaver is "probably the best FB in the game," I was actually trying to keep my superlatives in check, but if you’re going to press me on it, let me be more emphatic… Leonard Weaver IS the best FB in the NFL.
But you never answed the question
Is he good, or is he just a FB who gets the ball? Is he a good lead blocker, or is he Mike Alstott? I really dont know.
If I'm not mistaken, Mosely's been scary accurate as far as Big D first rounders go
I wouldn’t mind taking Campbell at 27. He’d be a project, but that’s okay. Flo still has a couple of years left in him, Free’s proven to be capable of stepping in and/or starting either tackle position, and apparently Brewster might be able to back up at RT or either guard position. We can go ahead and take a gamble on a guy with his athleticism and size.
Epic Fail since 1985
Yes
Campbell would be a great gamble at 27. If he works out, we potentially could be looking at a line within 2 years looking like Campbell/Brewster/Gurode/Davis/Free, which could potentially be phenomenal, and I also fully expect us to look for a new C and G soon as well.
I'll live and die with number 9....
You really dont want Brewster as a starter
If he is, we are in trouble. He’s good at a lot of things, but football is not really one of them.
How so?
Nobody’s had a good look at him one way or the other. He could still end up being a good player for us. His scouting report didn’t look bad at all.

The scouting reports werent very good on himq
I never saw a report that had him listed higher than a 5th round pick. Many even had him as an UDFA. Yet, Dallas spent a 3rd on him. He played primarily in a 2 point stance in a spread offense, so he’s got a lot to learn. And then by all accounts he wasnt very strong for an OT. All that adds up to a long shot project. I just think that if we have to use him, its becuase a lot will have gone wrong. Surely, we have others who are better than this guy.
CB Devin McCourty...
Is not worth our first round pick. As a Rutgers alum and Scarlet Knights fan, I cannot tell you how honestly disappointed I would be if Dallas picked him. He is by no means the physical man-to-man corner that we would be looking for. He is an excellent team player, serving many special teams roles, but not a first round value in my opinion.
I’d much rather see Rutgers OT Anthony Davis as our first pick. Just my opinion.
Davis will be long gone by #27
Dallas would need to move up.
