Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Todd Archer reports that a few teams are showing interest in SS Gerald Sensabaugh.

"No visits have been set up but Gerald Sensabaugh has received interest from three or four teams, according to his agent, Kevin Conner.

The Cowboys put the second-round tender on the restricted free agent safety, which would pay him $2.8 million in 2010. If the Cowboys chose not to match an offer, they would receive a second-round pick as compensation."

Can't afford to lose Sensi

Especially when Bethea will cost us our 1st round pick. We waited all this time for a legit SS who could cover and we put him at risk.

Why did we tender him at the same level as Proctor????

by JimmyJohnson on Mar 6, 2010 6:02 PM CST reply actions

IMO

it was to see his market value, I have no doubts that Jerry will match whatever offer someone gives

by nicholas.rodriguez on Mar 6, 2010 7:00 PM CST up reply actions

I disagree.

Just think how many picks he would have had without his cast. He was constantly around the ball.

by Alexcomestokill on Mar 6, 2010 8:25 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I would agree.

I don’t see how he doesn’t stick around next year. Think about his interception in the Eagles game; total game changer.

by Alexcomestokill on Mar 7, 2010 12:20 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

I don't think this is the worst thing in the world

if the team signing him is in the early, mid-2nd, you could draft Chad Jones to replace him.

Jones might be better than Sensi.

you’ve in effect flipped a cheap, UFA who nobody wanted last year into a 2nd round pick, who you then can sign cheaply for a long-term.

If you hit on that pick you’ve done some very good business.

by Rafael Vela on Mar 6, 2010 6:05 PM CST reply actions

i hope we pursue atogwe

If we do lose sensi, and draft one of the safeties with one of our high picks.

Did joyner shed any light on atogwes metrics?

by TONYINCC on Mar 6, 2010 6:33 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Im having a hard time believing that a team would give up a 2nd round pick for Sensabaugh...

unless were talking bottom of the second, but high second no way…If so, like Raf said it wouldnt be the worst thing. We could move up to get Thomas with the extra ammo.

I like Sensabaugh, but I'm down for a bunch of 2nd round picks.

If he left and they deal, might as well keep Hamlin on the books.

I think people are overrating Sensi a bit

I would much rather have the pick, if some team wants him that badly.

Sensi is a known quantity in this scheme,

how long did it take us just to get decent in this position?

by elharpo on Mar 6, 2010 8:04 PM CST up reply actions

This.

SS wasn’t the problem last year, FS was. Letting Sensi go just creates another problem.

If we lose Sensa no way they cut Hamlin....

Sad to say no matter what happens he stays….if Jerry was going to dump his salary he wouldve done it already..

Why would they dump him before the draft?

Unless he’s due a bonus, there’s no harm in keeping him on the roster.

Not a big deal

Cowboys can match a reasonable offer. If they don’t, they get an extra 2nd in a good draft class. If Sensabaugh leaves, they keep Hamlin who, while not great, is kinda average. Not horrible. Hamlin and a first day draft pick could be a decent combination at safety.

by Arson55 on Mar 6, 2010 6:50 PM CST reply actions

He's the only good safety we've got

And poor safety play has been an achilles heel of the Cowboys for several years. We should definitely upgrade Hamlin. But there is no guarantee that a 2nd rounder would be able to step in for Sensabaugh.

Safety is not like Spears at DE whom we could replace in a heartbeat. We wait years to find a safety prospect.

by JimmyJohnson on Mar 6, 2010 6:52 PM CST reply actions

Really don't think Sensabaugh is much better than Spears

They’re both good, but not great players. I’d rather not lose either, but neither would cripple the team if they left.

by Arson55 on Mar 6, 2010 6:54 PM CST up reply actions

Aree

Not to say he is a super star, I remeber when a certain super star was put down in a game and I thought the season was over for him. He came back the next week and played a pro bowl type game in a cast. When Sensi responded with a more than decent games in a cast, my thoughts are he is a good player and will get better if not great.

by coverall1 on Mar 6, 2010 7:02 PM CST up reply actions

Spears or Sensabaugh.....hmmm....

I would much rather lose Spears…I have more confidence in Bowen as his replacement than Sensabaughs replacements..I dont have much faith in Mike Hamlin…..

"Austin made the play, Austin saved the day" Brad Sham

by Boyzfan94 on Mar 6, 2010 7:01 PM CST reply actions

That is true

There is a decent in house replacement for Spears, and we don’t have one for Sensabaugh. But I don’t really think Sensabaugh is that much better. Don’t get me wrong, he’s the best safety we’ve had in awhile, but given what that compares him too, it doesn’t really say much. Of course, my stance there has as much to do with thinking Spears never gets the credit he deserves. He really is a good (once again not great) player, but it seems like a lot of Cowboys fans always want to actively drive him out of town.

by Arson55 on Mar 6, 2010 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

if we lose Sensa then we get a 2nd

then maybe with the extra 2nd we get Bethea and give up pick 27. with one of our 2nd rd picks we could still target a safety.

by ziggy19 on Mar 6, 2010 7:16 PM CST reply actions

my mock

rd 1 to Colts for S Antoine Bethea
rd 2 pick for Sensa – Vladimir Ducasse OT Massachusetts
rd 2 Lamarr Houston DT Texas
rd 3 Larry Asante SS Nebraska
rd 4 Antonio Brown WR Central Michigan

by ziggy19 on Mar 6, 2010 8:02 PM CST reply actions

It all depends on

how the coaching staff feels of M. Hamlin and the price

by nicholas.rodriguez on Mar 6, 2010 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

Although I'm a little hesitant of this second round tender because of limited backup

I think the Cowboys come out ahead however this unfolds — a second round pick is not absolutely unreasonable for Sensa’s services. This could let the market set a decent value on his next contract, and the Cowboys would have the option of taking that or earning another second round pick. Obviously, safety would definitely be an interest within the first day of the draft.

Before we have a collective freakout/visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads....

I think it would make sense to read the article, , especially point 5. It is not an uncommon tactic for agents to feign demand for their clients to either drive the team to the bargaining table, or stir up interest.

by BVandy on Mar 6, 2010 8:24 PM CST reply actions

Absolutely. The key clause in the Sensabaugh story is...

“no visits have been scheduled.”

Until we hear that Sensabaugh is flying to a city and meeting with a team’s coaches and other officials, we can’t assume that teams have done anything but kick his tires…

A cover-2 Free Safety can't be compared

And is not worth a 1st round pick. Unlike the Cowboys’ system where FS is often called upon to match up with receivers and cover man-to-man, Bethea gets to play centerfield where he can sit back, read the QB’s eyes and make plays. Maybe he would be successful in our system… maybe not. But it isn’t worth a #1 to find out.

by JimmyJohnson on Mar 6, 2010 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

Sensa has visits "in the planning stages".
An NFL source has told Scout.com that the sixth-year safety, who finished fourth on the team in tackles in 2009, has three visits in the planning stages with teams that have an immediate need for starter-quality talent at the position.

That's a big list

1. Jets, who traded Rhodes;
2. Steelers, who may lose Ryan Clark
3. Eagles, who are kicking Antoine Bethea’s tires, per the same source;
4. Redskins, see 3;
5. Saints, who may let the 35 y.o. Darren Sharper go;
6. S.F., who is looking at Taylor Mays, but may appreciate filling that need with a F.A.
7. Miami, who just cut Gibril Wilson and who missed on Rolle, and who were also interested in Bethea;
8. Atlanta, which needs help along their secondary;
9. Chicago, who was very interested in Rolle before signing Peppers;

And I’m sure you could come up with more teams if you thought about it.

We discussed this Raf, but im thinking he may have more than 3 team visits by that list. I guess he is not big twitter person because he has not tweeted in some time. Thought maybe he would leak something out.
