Cowboys shopping Spears, Carpenter, Hurd, Watkins & Proctor

Michael Lombardi reports in the National Football Post

3.    The Cowboys would part with defensive end Marcus Spears, linebacker Bobby Carpenter, wide receiver Sam Hurd, safety Pat Watkins and lineman Cory Procter for the right price. All of them are being shopped around the league.

None of these guys are a big surprise.  Spears' tender would pay him less than his backups. Carpenter... yeah, if someone will give us something for him, he played okay this year but we'll not get anywhere near his original draft position in value, of course. Hurd I would not like to see go, he's a great special teams player and seems like he could be a decent receiver if he got some playing time. I keep wondering, with his great training camp performances, if he could break out like Miles if given the opportunity. Maybe not quite like Miles lol, but pretty good. Well, maybe another team will get to find out. Watkins, good special teams player, but not much at S, and certainly replaceable. Procter, good riddance, but what about Free Reign?

But the fact that the front office is putting out the for sale sign on these guys could indicate an active draft for Jerry, trading around and trading current players to get more picks, and may give some indication of what positions he'll be targeting.
