Get value at the very last minute, lets do it again

Trading up worked so well yesterday, I say we do it again. We can argue that Dez will be a bust or not but there are a few things that can not be denied. We traded up at exactly the last possible chance to get him, I strongly believe the Ravens would have taken him. He is the 10th ranked player on Gosselin's incredibly accurate top 100. We still have 6 picks, and we paid the equivalent of a mid 5th. Arguably we got the best pick in our division.  According to Gosselin's 100 Trent Williams ranked 6th, Bryant was ranked 10th, Brandon Graham was ranked 16th, and JPP was ranked 18th.

So after the first day we are looking good and there are alot of players available who are excellent value and picks. Issue is that there are glaring needs at S and OL. We absolutely need to get value with our limited picks but at the same time we need to fill those holes. Thankfully value can be found at those positions. I will list some players available at these position along with Gosselin's ranking of them, who would be excellent additions.

Saffold OT 30th

Mays FS 33rd

Allen FS 39th

Cook DB  43rd

Brown OT 44th

These are the most interesting names at the top of the Goose's rankings, but some other players of interest who Gosselin does not think so highly of are also available. Players like Burnett (FS ranked 71st), John Asamoah (G, 54th), Bruce Campbell (OT, 60th), and Ducasse (OT, 67th) are also available. These players need to be targets on Dallas' board and they should take the exact same approach they did yesterday. Keep an eye on them and trade up to get them as soon as it appears they could disappear. IMO we can only sit and wait at 59 if more than one is available. Otherwise we run the risk of having to reach or missing out on players at a position of need.

We could sit tight and still address the O line depth

One of the bigger prospects should fall to us. There are huge names still available tomorrow. A good player at a position of need will most likely be there at 59.

Well, one thing in the Cowboys' favor so far

was that there was not the run of offensive linemen that some were projecting. However, with NE owning 3 second round picks, I could see them grabbing one or two. IMO, if you can get Ducasse or even gamble on Campbell, or if Nate Allen is there, stay at 59 and pick away. I would hesitate to trade up again, but for the right offensive linemen I could get onboard. But, I would be more inclined to trade back given what is projected to be on the board when the Cowboys pick.

I believe the Cowboys should strive to leave this draft with a OT who would be ready to play in his rookie year, sacraficing some upside and an interior lineman who needs some development but has potential to start full time in the future. If they find a way to draft Ducasse, IMO, he falls into the second category because while he likely could start right away at guard, it’s likely he’d be brutal at tackle.

They also need a DB, whether that be a safety or corner. Ideally I’d say the same thing I did for the offensive line. One with upside even if raw and one who could fill in even if he has a lower ceiling.

If Campbell falls into the 42-45 range, they HAVE to go get him

I expect a couple of more trades

we have the two 4ths and some players we like to deal. I wouldn’t be surprised for us to try and get another 2nd or get a 3rd back if some player falls. I wouldn’t mind ending up with either saffold, brown or ducassee and Burnett and be done with the draft. its not about quantity its about quality and this team doesn’t have many needs other than depth and developmental players.

plus I wouldn’t rule out trades after the draft for either jamal brown or gaither.

I was just wondering that...

I think at 59 it’s worth a shot but I’d like to move some players/one of the 4ths and get back into the 2nd and take an offensive lineman..

I mentioned earlier, but, if there is a run of Oline and DB

I think the Cowboys are faced with selecting a DT or reaching slightly for a DB or greatly for an OL in the late 2nd round. If that situation presents itself, I could accept the BPA approach and take the DT. Beyond that I would hope for a trade back into early round 3 to look at guys like Owusu-Ansah, John Jerry, Veldeer, Myron Lewis or Chad Jones.

I think the Cowboys will try and package a 4th and Spears to get into late 2nd or 3rd….maybe even try Spears and #59 to move up into the 2nd. I can’t see anyone giving us much for Spears when he’s on a 1 year contract.
