DeAngelo Hall: [Redskins] will dominate NFC East

Gerry Fraley of the DMN: "Washington cornerback DeAngelo Hall told the Washington Post newspaper that the arrival of quarterback Donovan McNabb will allow the Redskins to 'dominate our division, off of bringing Donovan McNabb in here, a guy who's dominated the division in the past.'"

"It's based on the talent we feel like we've got," he said. "It's based on the improvements I feel like we've made. It's based on the scheme. The scheme alone is gonna give us four or five more wins. The games we lost by two, three points, we'll win those games, easy."

I don't think Hall knows what "domination" means. If you win 4 games one year, and if you think you'll win 4-5 more games the next, that just means you end up with an 8-8 to 9-7 record. Sheer domination!

Anyway, McNabb has never dominated the division: 11-9 vs. the 'Boys, 11-7 vs. the Giants, and 13-7 vs. the 'Skins. Winning records against all, but hardly "domination."

Can I say "domination" again?

At one time, Hall was maybe the most overrated player in the league, but I think people have started to wise up that he’s not that good. Anyway, he’s more mouth than player.

As for McNabb not dominating… Are you serious? In his prime, he and the Eagles absolutely dominated the division.

by JimmyK on Apr 27, 2010 1:21 PM CDT reply actions

2002 – 5-1 in the division
2003 – 5-1 in the division
2004 – 6-0 in the division

That’s not dominant?

Unfortunately for D. Hall it’s not the early aughts anymore.

by JimmyK on Apr 27, 2010 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Problem for Hall is that McNabb is well past his prime. He was a good QB and in his prime he was a borderline HOF QB but injuries and age have taken there toll on him. The Redskins won’t be much better this year then last year.

by APerfectStar on Apr 30, 2010 6:27 AM CDT up reply actions

The Raiders got the best deal, a serviceable QB for a 4th in 2012.

Philly came in 2nd with a #2 for McNabb.
Washington took it in the butt.

by DIRE WOLF on Apr 27, 2010 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed… That Campbell trade was awful for the Redskins.

by JimmyK on Apr 27, 2010 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions

McNabb also had argueably the best DC in the game and a nasty Defense covering any mistakes that were made.

McNabb is/was a good QB and I think he makes them better. I just think we are better and we improved ourselves as much or more.

I think you guys might have taken a step back but i think its 1 small step back temporarily to be followed by 2 big steps forward.

The skins got better but so did we.

KICK ASS every day!!!

by squidlo97 on Apr 27, 2010 1:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, the Skins are quite clearly still 4th in the pecking order, and in my opinion it’s by a wide margin.

You mean when the Eagles D was insanely good,

and the rest of the division was pretty questionable? I’m not sure how impressive that is.

Hows he done in close games in the division? I can think of quite a few in the last 4 years that he personally has played poorly in and the eagles have come up just a little short in.

by foyesboys on Apr 28, 2010 11:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think

ther’s any doubt that McNabb makes them better, but still not good enough to be a dominant team in arguably the best division in football.

agreed

I don’t think Campbell was the biggest of their problems by any stretch of the imagination

DeAngleo Hall has always talked way over his level of game.

Its too bad for Redskins fans that Snyder thinks he is a good CB.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Apr 27, 2010 2:20 PM CDT reply actions

Hall is a talker

Always has been. That’s why they were more than happy to get rid of him in Atlanta, because he essentially destroyed the locker room and was one of the main reasons Petrino gave up on the team. They got rid of him in Oakland because he wasn’t any good.

So we’ll let him talk off the field, and whoever he covers—Austin, Bryant, and even Williams—can shut him up on it.

i don't know that history about deangelo being a main factor for petrino's quit

You taking any action on that (the Eagles finishing last)?

And on a side note… I’m sorry bud, but Phillies/Sixers/Flyers… and Cowboys? I’ll allow you to root for the Sixers, I’ll get back to you on the Flyers, but you have no Phillies privileges. Turn in your Utley jersey immediately – You’re a disgrace to the city of Philadelphia.

Why are you investigating on me :)

I’m all tapped out of action locally on that, man. Born, raised, and still live in South Jersey, so I have full rights to my Philly teams, thanks. I just happened to grow up on a street full of older kids who were bandwagon Cowboy fans from the ’70s. I, on the other hand, was an impressionable youngster that wanted to be like the kids I looked up to and be Cowboys when we played football on the street. It just stuck, much to the grave disappointment of my father. My loyalty lies with the star!

There is nothing fraudulent about my fandom, as often termed by WIP. However, I understand the animosity, there are a lot of idiots out there that give the Cowboy faithful a bad name. But that could be said for fans of any team really.

by grey9er on Apr 28, 2010 9:39 AM CDT up reply actions

Oof… terrible excuse. I stand by my Phillies banning.

by JimmyK on Apr 28, 2010 10:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Take that garbage elsewhere.

We know that the only distinguishing thing about the Eagles is that no one would ever cheer for them unless they were forced to by their parents or whatever. We know that their fans don’t have any clue what it’s like to have someone that wasn’t cursed at birth cheer for their team. But you guys are really embarrassing yourselves with trying to decide who is a real fan or whatever, especially given how you treat your own players. I think you’re a pretty intelligent guy and a hardcore football fan that shows more love for the game than most, so it pains me to see you continue to make a fool of yourself. It’s pathetic and I think you’re better than that.

Seriously?

Cambell might not be the Qb that McNabb is but he was in no way what was pulling that team down

just decided they should add something to the health care bill. Everyone should be made to get a membership to a gym and must use it. If not then they should be penalized for not taking care of themselves. All in favor? Oh wait...it doesn't matter what we think.

An upgrade over Jamarcus Russell, but a bad QB nonetheless. I’m sure he’s a big part of what was holding down the ’Skins.

The guy had a better passer rating last year than Carson Palmer and Matt Ryan.

And he did that behind a god awful offensive line in a system that didn’t really fit his strengths. I think you should be careful about dismissing him as a good QB.

by Grady90 on Apr 28, 2010 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

I think some of it was attributable to the fact that he had to dump the ball off a lot

and therefore never really made those nice deep throws that are his strength. Given an opportunity with a good team though, I think he could do pretty well.

I don’t think the skins have the power to leap frog anyone in the division next year. Will there be improvements? Probably. But you have a long way to go when you go 0-6 in the division the year before.

I wonder if this came before or after

We drafted Dez Bryant, because last I checked, everyone in the NFC East was furious or pissing themselves when Dez was allowed to fall to us and we picked him up with a potential third Pro Bowl Wideout on the team. Good luck covering Austin, Witten, Bryant AND Williams there hall.

Oh, and by the way, your DC (Haslett) isn’t a real 3-4 DC, otherwise he would have run it in St. Louis when he was coaching there.

That acquisition has turned out to be money well spent. He puts in one average season, and then decides he doesn’t want to play in a 3-4 so he’s going to bitch and moan until they trade him or dump him.
