Inside the 'Boys/'Pats draft day trade.

The DMN had an interesting link to the New England Patriots official website, regarding their equivalent to the 'Boys "Draft Show" (click here to see it). At about the 4 minute mark you can experience what was going on in the Pats war room while they negotiated with Jerry about the 24th pick, which would ultimately end up being used to select Dez Bryant.

What is facinating to me is:

  1. How Belichick pulled back their original offer of sending the 113rd pick to Dallas in favor of the 119th.
  2. That Belichick contacted Ozzie Newsome of the Ravens to see if they were interested in getting the 24th pick instead of the Cowboys.
  3. That Patriots blurred out their draft board. It has been well documented (and tirelessly researched), that the Cowboys had their draft board on full display in their Draft Show.

One extra thing... Belichick is heard saying that: "Dallas moving up to get Dez Bryant. Baltimore doesn't want him..." I don't think, however, that he is referring to the Ravens not wanting Dez, but rather that they don't want "their guy" Devin McCourty.

I agree. I think that’s what he meant too. I thought it was interesting that Ozzie didn’t wanna move up to get Dez. Hmmm.

Jerry already had his Randy Moss.

Now Ozzzie Newsome has his….

I have noticed a new resurgence in Cowboy hating in 2007, which can only mean one thing- We're back.

It's looking like it has worked out well for us.

I think Dez is going to be another “88” playmaker, continuing the legacy of Irvin and Pearson.

Patriots blurring out Draft Board = Typical Belichek/Parcells behavior

Cowboys having Draft Board on Display = Owner/GM not afraid to show his cards, especially to fans.

I told you not to f*ck with me.

Yea typical Belichek..

It seem he was tryn to turn the ravens and The Cowboys into a biddn war..

The Ravens were not goin to jump up 1 spot for a trade i would not blame them.. y else would Belichick contact the Ravens.. Dallas were the furthest away so had to offer more..

Since he couldnt get that extra pick he offer us a lower pick.. six spots down

just too squeeze that extra value..

either way we uesd that on Sean Lee

unless Belichick just dont like Dallas..

And would rather trade it to the Ravens if they were offering

One would assume

that Bellicheat rather Bryant went to Dallas(NFC) than Baltimore(AFC) just in terms of not wanting to better one of the teams you have a realistic chance of playing more frequently.

Once Belicheck made the decision to trade the pick, why not try to get a bidding war going?

I agree

That is just being a good GM, businessman, whatever you want to call it.

not sayn anything about that...

but y would the Ravens giv up more than what Dallas was offering to mov up 1 spot..

Yea The Ravens would take Dez if he fell to them but not at the cost of extra picks … since they just traded for Boldin.

There more to than that muv than meet the eye.

Besides Boldin, Ravens only other established WR is Mason

and he’s 36. Mark Clayton and Donte DUI Stallworth are their next best WRs, Dez made us better, I’m sure he would of made that WR corp much better.

But i wonder y so many people talk about the pick of Sean Lee… when half this Site wntd Spike in the second round…

Sean Lee look like sum1 Belichick would like 2.We used the Pas pick on him hahaha!!!

On a related note

I read where the Giants were set to deal DT Barry Cofield to the Saints, I believe, during the draft for a (get this!) … 2nd round pick! Way too much, IMO, but that’s not my point. Anyway, at the last minute it fell through. But when the Giants are on the clock, they think Cofield is gone so they draft his replacement in Linval Joseph way too early at pick 46 in the 2nd round. Then, the trade falls through and now they have a guy they may or may not (I’m saying NOT) have drafted had they not thought Cofield was gone.

And most people think had they not needed another DLineman, they would have gone after … none other than Sean Lee, who Dallas trades up to #55 to get.

Funny how this whole thing works out.

by TCBinNYC on May 13, 2010 1:45 PM CDT reply actions

Actually you may be right

maybe we would’ve taken Sean Lee if Cofield was not traded (obviously dropped at the last minute because of contract issues).h but I think we would have drafted Linval Joseph anyway if Cofield was gone or not, we use a big defensive rotation.
