Sensabaugh has signed his tender
The DMN is reporting Sensabaugh signed his tender for $1.815M today:
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2010/05/gerald-sensabaugh-signs-tender.html
The deal does not preclude the Cowboys from signing Sensabaugh to a long-term deal. The Cowboys and his agent, Kevin Conner, have had talks throughout the off-season. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the team wants to sign Sensabaugh and Austin to long-term deals, however, the uncertain future of the collective bargaining agreement has made reaching deals more difficult.

I can't find the article now...
But I remember reading before the draft and Hamlin and Adams being cut that we would’ve been over the cap by over $15M if there had been one. They were talking about contracts that could be restructured if the cap came back into play.
Best I can find is this one:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/14/salary-cap-report-if-there-were-a-salary-cap/
As of March (before the Adams and Hamlin cuts) we were going to be at $153M. The 2009 cap was $128M. Figure it probably would’ve increased a couple million for 2010. We were going to be hurting.

Cap is a concern, but we should still have some flexibility
Flo + Hamlin + Roy + TNew = almost $40M. This is the last yr. of guaranteed $ for Roy and TNew, so TNew can be restructured (bring the cap hit onto this uncapped yr.)…and Roy will probably be cut (although he costs much less in 2011).
I think Bigg, Colombo, and Gurode also have big contracts that aren’t guaranteed anymore and ripe for restructuring.
I’m still hoping we can upgrade FS in 2010 because I think it’s what will put us over the top…and even a contract like Rolle’s is only guaranteed through 2011 ($10M this yr. and $5M next)

Yeah
I’m pretty sure Newman’s and Bigg’s contracts were some of the ones they mentioned possibly getting restructured. I think Barber’s was another one. I wish I could find it. I just can’t find the right combination of key words to bring it up to the first 10 pages of a Google search.LOL

Thank you Lonewolfz28
Wow I thought the Cowboys had to be close, but I had no idea they would be over and by that amount.
No wonder the Cowboys have not signed FA’s this off season and maybe why Austin and Sensabaugh do not have long term deals.
I do not think there is a chance the Cowboys make a play for Atogwe.
I don't really see how
they are going to bring back a cap. Once you do something like this and open the flood gates you put a lot of teams in a very bad situation. Right now everyone is dumping players contracts for the cap to come back, but if it isn’t in place by next year I don’t see how you can stop people from signing with reckless abandon… just one mans opinion.

if you're a billion dollar business
and can’t plan properly for the changing landscape- you deserve to end up in cap hell.
the way the current scenario is playing out should come as no shock to any competent front office.

But out of 32 FO's
how many would you put in “competent” status?

Off the top of my head I'd say...
Colts
Patriots
Ravens
Dolphins
Steelers
Chargers
Giants (although their moves with their D-line and Rolle are making me start questioning their mental status)
There are a few others that I’m sure would qualify in someone else’s eyes. But, most of the other teams either spend too much, too little or in the wrong places IMHO.

Exactly my point.
Less than half the league is competent. They all make bad moves and you throw in the capless year to make it even worse. You also proved my secondary point that people once thought to be competent spend money in weird ways when unrestricted (Giants)

Less than half the league is incompetent?
I would suggest that this opinion is formed from comparison to other NFL franchises, and thus, is incorrect. Do you really think that all these exceedingly wealthy and successful owners can afford to buy NFL franchises because they are incompetent?
No doubt, some owners are better than others, but none are incompetent.
RW is the opposite of WR. Coincidence? I think not.

exactly my point
compentency as a business isn’t directly related to success on the field. That’s the conundrum of owning a sports team, you have two specific goals as opposed to one, and sometimes those goals can come at the other’s expense.
When you have a ‘change in the rules’ as the NFL did with the salary cap, competency in that regard is defined differently. I haven’t seen many reports of any teams going completely buck wild with no cap…
when I hear some of those types, then I’ll reconsider
