Football Outsiders have done some analysis of broken tacklers for both LB's and DB's. Unfortunately its an insider article so you won't be able to see the whole thing if you are not a member.
But just a quick summary of the Cowboy highlights:
The old man's still got it:
Keith Brooking is number 2 best tackling LB in the NFL with a broken tackle rate of just 2.6% (2 out of 75). This was behind Brandon Siler of the Chargers at 1.9%. Patrick Willis was 8th with 3.4% - but he maintained this over 114 tackles, a pretty impressive effort.
This old man doesn't:
Akin Ayodele topped the list of worst tackling LB's with 17% broken tackles (12/61) - an astonishing rate. Give Wade one point over Big Bill. The Cowboys didn't have any LB's in the Top 10 worst tacklers.
Jenkins still has work to do:
Jenkins was 9th worst tackler at DB missing 17.4% (10 out of 45) . However, this was still substantially better than the top (bottom?) spot of Asante Samuels who missed 26.6% (14 out of 39). I think I would be putting Miles "big thighs" Austin on him this year....
Rates for DB's obviously significantly higher given they are paid more to cover than to tackle and they have a tougher job tackling at full speed in the open field rather than a MLB having to tackle a RB in more confined space after they had to bounce through the line.
None of our DB's made the Top 10 list of best tacklers.
