Cowboys maybe changing uniforms...and they wear green pants?

Say wha? From the DMN:

" In a blog post by Richie Whitt of the Dallas Observer , Dallas Cowboys vice president of merchandising Bill Priakos said his team is considering updating its uniform for today's high-definition televisions and demanding fans.

"When fans go to our home games in person the No. 1 grief we hear about is the green pants," Priakos said. "Now we're hearing it from fans watching on TV because of HD. It's too realistic."

The pants are a color Tex Schramm created that looked blue-gray-silver on TV. But with today's improvements in video, they just look green.

"Nothing's set in stone," Priakos says. "But we want the pants to look silver, to be consistent to every fan no matter if they're at the game or watching on TV, whether we're home or on the road. Of course, we'll never change the home white jerseys or the helmets, but we're experimenting with some different shades in the pants." "

Star-divide

Speaking as someone who A) has never been to a Cowboys game, and B) has never had HD television until this summer, I'm very confused as to how I never knew the Cowboys wear green pants. I'm pretty weirded out at the moment.

Also, instead of going through the trouble of making green pants that look silver on TV, why not just give them silver pants to start with?

The Cowboys wear green pants?

Anyway, I'm opposed to any uniform change that makes the Cowboys look unfamiliar. They have a really distinctive look and shouldn't stray too far from that. But if it's just a corrective thing, that's fine I guess.

Green?

I'm pretty sure they're going to stay silver looking

And I watched them on HD last season, they didn’t seem particularly green to me…

Well, that's not exactly what it says. It says they fear the shade of silver

they wear now looks green on HD, so they’re working on shades of silver that look silver. I’ve seen the Cowboys live and on television, and I’ve never thought the pants looked green. But I don’t have HD, so I dunno.

by Fernie67 on Jun 24, 2010 2:28 PM CDT reply actions

I had HD for the first time last season

and didn’t notice any green pants. Maybe their HDTV just sucks?

by Dub_TC on Jun 24, 2010 2:52 PM CDT reply actions

The color is actually metalic silver

that has a green hue to it but it’s not really green. You’ll notice that their away pants are a pure silver color, not a metalic silver.

Y'all never noticed?

There are multiple silvers and multiple shades of blue. Look at this pic: can you tell the helmets and pants are different colors and that the pants look greenish when you see the two colors next to one another?

by Leon on Jun 24, 2010 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Not quite

The color is actually PMS 8001 U. The C is for coated substances and the U is un-coated. The pants are not shiny, so U is appropriate here.

You know it's the offseason when
  • the biggest news of the day is the color of the Cowboys’ pants
  • you think investing time in getting to know the Cowboys 18 or so UDFAs (most of whom will never see a single snap in the NFL) is time well spent
  • you start threads about it being the offseason
  • you watch re-runs on the NFL Network and pretend to yourself that you’re actually watching the games live
  • you watch the Soccer World Cup and find yourself wondering whether David Buehler wouldn’t kick better penalties and free kicks
  • you check the listings for any Arena Football games only to find they’ve been defunct for two years
  • like every offseason, reports surface that Matt Leinart will have a breakout season
  • a Cowboys wide receiver claims to be on the same page as his quarterback – and you believe him

I had a girl tell me once that the Cowboys wore green-blue pants so I understand the sentiment.

I always thought they were clearly silver but after she told me that I could see how they actually did look that kind of blue-green color.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Jun 24, 2010 6:27 PM CDT reply actions

The girls pay more attention to how the players look in their pants than we do

That could be because of an interest in style, or
an interest in big guys wearing tight, shiny pants.
If it’s your wife/GF you always hope it’s the first one!

Sounds like the silver is reflective enough to pick up the green grass tones of the field

Hopefully this will still be among our most serious concerns after training camp…

I see it now.

An ever-so-slight green tint to the pants. I misunderstood the article to be that the Cowboys wear legitimately green pants that look silver on TV and that made no sense to me because otherwise I would have heard about it by now…lol.

Before you ask why I'm a fan of both the Cowboys and Jets, I'll just say the answer is complicated and that it just turned out that way.

by Grady90 on Jun 24, 2010 6:55 PM CDT reply actions

But thats the Cowboys.. its part of history you cant change that

The cowboys uniforms are special in so many ways.

They always wear white at home.
Their away jersey is NOT the same as the home just flipped colors (like most teams)
They have atleast 3 different pants one being the “green”
They dont need some crazy color scheme thats not even part of their logo cough red giants*cough*
The curse of the “blue” jerseys

Leave it alone! If it aint broke dont fix it. Everyone knows how abouts cowboys “green” pants and its part of the wonderful history.

Really?! Really?!

by thebigham on Jun 25, 2010 6:33 AM CDT reply actions

But it has changed

The current dark jerseys are very different from past dark jerseys. Also, the throwback uniforms are wrong. The blue was royal blue, not the navy blue they use now.

I went to two games last year, and watched the rest on a 64" HDTV

Notice green pants, I did not.

Looked silver, they did.

Green man, Yoda is.

by Damnsammit on Jun 25, 2010 8:19 AM CDT reply actions

Not permanently

Maybe as an alternate throwback. I like the current throwback, but wasn’t the original Cowboys uniform long sleeved and made of wool with a cowl? The old-school silver pants with the red stripe would make for a more authentic look, historically speaking.

1971 uniform

It would be great if the cowboys wore thier 1971 uniform. The light blue jerseys are super cool! Come on Jerry, that jersey would be a great seller!

by beautifultyrant on Jun 25, 2010 2:48 PM CDT reply actions

NOOOO!

I love the silver//green home pants. I really hope they don’t change that. If anything they should change their helmet silver to match the pants.

However they SHOULD go back to the pre 80s serifed numerals on the regular jerseys similar to the throwback numerals they wear now.

And while they’re at it change the away jersey to 70s royal blue style. That would be the perfect uniform combo in my eyes.

green pants is a lie

some dude trying to make his own mark by messing with our sacred uniforms. if jerry allows this, it could be meltdown time. ulterior motive: change the uniforms so he can sell more merchandise. i have never ever heard of green pants in my entire life. for the new HD market? lies.

Do many people buy replica Cowboys pants?

Ok, this is going too far now, but I have to ask

do we always wear the bluish-green-silver pants when we wear the white jersey, or are those pants only for home games?

Why do i look at Popivich with a arm around a player talking with 2 minutes left, and get jealous?

yes - the 'green' pants are always worn with the home whites

the road navy jerseys are worn with silver pants that match the helmet….throwbacks are worn with white pants….
