Dez Bryant agrees to contract
From Rotoworld.com (updated with contract numbers)
Cowboys signed No. 24 overall pick WR Dez Bryant to a five-year, $11.8 million contract, including $8.3 guaranteed.
Last year's 24th pick, Peria Jerry, received $7.55M guaranteed. So much for the concern about agent Eugene Parker's history and speculation that Bryant would be holding out for Top-10 money. The former Oklahoma State star becomes the first of the first-round picks to sign, just in time for the Cowboys to begin training camp this weekend. Bryant made a strong first impression in OTAs, and his early signing will only help to ensure that he'll be pushed into a big role as a rookie. Roy Williams is on notice this summer.
Great news. Dez can use all the reps he can get, and will do well not to miss a moment of training camp. I figured he might miss a day or two, probably not longer, but it's somewhat surprising that they actually got it done a bit ahead of time this time, especially with the uncertainty of being the first 1st-round signing with no market set to negotiate from.
Also expect Sean Lee to be signed by tomorrow.

I think this is great, a good first sign of him getting off on the right foot. Had he held out for 10 minutes the national media would have been all over him, while ignoring holdouts from other teams.
Dez could learn a thing or two fron Jon Beason:
Not sure if this was directed at Bryant:
I’ll tell you what, I’m definitely going to have rookies carry my pads. They better not say they’re not going to carry my pads. I had a lot of respect for the veterans when I was a rookie and I was more than willing to carry pads for Dan Morgan and Na’il Diggs. I’m sure the young guys now will have that respect for me, and I’ll show them respect as well. They know carrying pads is just part of the drill.
Good luck with your next Diva!
Thanks for the good luck wishes, it will be fun watching Dez lead teh league in catches, yards and tds several times over the next few years.

Yes, Beason is a true example for all players to emulate forever
BTW, Has Steve Smith sucker punched any teammates lately?
Dez will be tearing the league up while your scrubs learn how to block for Williams and Stewart. Good luck getting through your division this year, with the QB Dallas gifted your team.

So if Jarrett went up to LaFell and said "here, carry my pads"
You’d expect LaFell to do it? I know he went Round 3, but he was one of the higher ranked WRs out of the class. He also should have Jarrett’s job by the end of the season—just like Dez taking Roy’s—LaFell is going to do it?
Don Be Foolin!
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
We set the rookie contract levels this year.
The only unhappy person about this may be Roy W
Where are the Iggle fans...
Who were fawning over how awesome their FO is for making sure all the picks would be in camp? Looks like we just took the lead!
And, yes, I realize this is not a race.

It’s been close to 20 years since Dallas had a holdout.
You got to have faith in Stephen Jones. He comes through — all the time.
there have been day or 2 holdouts
as the deal got finalized, that’s not uncommon, if that really counts as a holdout… but nothing beyond that, which does speak well to Stephen Jones and his relationship with the agents…
Yes, for 2 games in the regular season
Which the Cowboys lost both of, one of them being a rematch against the Bills from the super bowl where we set the record of 9 takeaways in the superbowl.

Not only that but he was the first of ALL the first rounders to sign
I heard the President of the NFLPA talking about collusion on a podcast earlier today when asked about no first rounders being signed yet. Hopefully, this will start the rest of them getting signed.

I wonder what the Dez haters will focus on now
This is awesome, I would have never thought it’d be done this fast.
Dez deserves a lot of credit for this, as does Stephen Jones.
I will tell what we will focus on
Has he memorized the entire Collective Bargaining agreement? No
Has he memorized the names of every player in the league? No
Has he memorized the Collected Works of Charles Dickens? Of course not
How do I know this? BECAUSE HE DID NOT MEMORIZE THE NCAA RULEBOOK
This character flaw means that he is a villain, a blackguard, a rotten apple, and I, for one, will not cheer for him. Every time he makes a catch, I will turn my back to the TV, just like I did with Michael Irvin. Every time he scores a touchdown, I will attribute to the influence of choir boy Sean Lee.
Any other opinion is ridiculous. I know this and you do not, Big Difference.

You forgot future pro bowler Sean Lee hahahaha
Because of course Sean Lee will be a pro bowler even though we can’t be sure about what Dez will do on the field.

Sour grapes or wishful thinking
I recall on draft night when Dez was selected, there seemed to be a lot of dismay on the rest of the NFCE blogs about it.

I remember a specific post by our good friend One.Cool.Customer
Right after the draft there was a post citing the blog posts from team sites around the league about the Dez Bryant pickup. AFC North teams were happy that he didn’t go to Baltimore and other AFC teams were just glad he wasn’t in their conference. NFC teams hated the fact that he fell to us, and the NFC East? Well, I remember comments like these…
Eagles
“DO NOT LET THE COWBOYS GET DEZ!” – dmyth13
“Please no, our secondary can’t handle it!” -notfromphilly
Giants
“This draft has officially become a nightmare” – chicagogiantsfan
Redskins
“Dallas + Dez = Bad for us” – Skinaholic

Per Schefter's twitter
Numbers are in: Dez Bryant’s deal with Cowboys is a five-year, $11.8 million deal that includes $8.5 million guaranteed.
I support Jenrry Mejia as a starter. Screw you Jerry Manuel for thinking he's a set-up man.
Boom!
Great start to Dez’s career as a cowboy. I like everything he has said and done since being picked and believe he is going to have a great year.
This is great for both parties
Dez shows that he’s a good kid, and the Cowboys have a player that has a football-first attitude. In addition, he greatly improves the chances of becoming a star by showing up to work on time, still looking for something to prove, and earning every rep he can with Romo.
In return, I bet Jerry promised him a lucrative renegotiation of his contract if he plays up to his calibre.

Atta Boy Jerrah
Dez wants and needs to get all the reps he can. Pretty cool he’s the first 1st rounder to get signed. Take that PFT, you morons.
Sean Lee probably gets inked to a deal tonight or tomorrow morning.
This FO knows how to get **it done.

Pretty hilarious that Dez is the first first-rounder to get signed… that kind of flies against everything that has been said about him in the media, doesn’t it?
Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.
Also flies against what we usually do.
We usually don’t start the signings. We usually let others start and set the market. Kudos to Stephen for being proactive.

Good for you guys, good for Dez.
In a league where it’s the norm to hold-out, and squabble over contracts for so much longer than necessary, it’s refreshing to see a young talent with this much hype get the bullshit out of the way so he can begin focusing on whats important.
Good first impression for Dez Bryant. Hope we get JPP inked up just as quietly.

What the hell is going on here
NO DISTRACTIONS going into camp? Is this still the Dallas Cowboys?
I LOVE IT!
Good Going Dez and Stephen
This is great news for everyone. Dez said he would be to camp ontime and he lived up to his word. Stephen Jones has done a great job in getting the picks signed and is showing why he will be the next Cowboys GM. I will be heading to SA next week and look forward to seeing 9 days of camp and how this team comes together this year.
Go Boys!!!
This was huge by the FO
Not only did they sign their highest profile draft pick, but they did it before everyone thought they would. And to take it a step further, they did it before all teams for a very reasonable amount.
This is a slap in the face for every person out there who was yappin a bout a holdout.
Huge for the FO to not only make sure there wasn’t a holdout, but to REALLY make a point.
The Cowboys are obviously looking to make a statement in every place they can.
Cant win in December … check.
Havent won a playoff game … check.
Cant handle the locker room … check.
Cant sign their diva draft pick …. check.
Cant win the super bowl in their home stadium …. yeah :)
What a way to shut them all up. Hopefully it translates on the field.
His contract
Is smaller than the 24th pick last year (Peria Jerry to the Falcons). I think it was for about 14 mil and 7.5 guaranteed. Percy was only 2 places ahead of dez and got signed for like 16 mil (not sure about the gauranteed money. I don’t know much about contracts but since 72% of that contract is guaranteed money, that probably had an influence in signing him for overall less money than last years picks in the same slot.

yeah
reasonable amount just means it wasnt super splashy or something that will necessarily need to be re-done next year
it is really nice to see a COWBOYS FAN as a football player and that helped him to get here and get ready and basically get this mgmt type stuff outta the way.
Awesome.

Good news
Great news in fact, it says a lot about Dez and our FO that this got done so quickly.
The medias obsession with this was ridiculous, as usual.
They have nothing to obsess over with the Dallas Cowboys this year
And they have no effin clue what to do. They will start making stuff up.
Really?
It was a 35 second blip on Mike and Mike this morning…Or should I say Eric and Chris? Either way, I watched ESPN to hear them talk some kind of smack and didn’t hear it. Maybe I missed it.
All I'm saying is just wait for the nonsense to start rolling in
They have nothing to go on and on and on and on and on about with the Cowboys. They will make up drama where none exist.
Toldja he wouldn't hold out :D
I’ve rarely been so glad to be right.
And I’ve rarely been so excited about merely signing a draft pick. Here’s to a great season, my fellow fans!
