Quincyyyyy's highly anticipated 53 man roster and 7 man practice squad projection
Notes:
- rookies are bolded and UDFA's have an asterisk
Offense: 24
QB: Romo, Kitna, McGee
Kitna is on my watch list for surprise cuts. Kitna is 38 and not that good honestly; if McGee can show he is decent and can handle the offense I would not be surprised to see Kitna gone.
RB: Felix, MB3, Choice,
No surprises here.
TE: Witten, Bennett,
H-Back: John Phillips, Scott Sicko*
Sicko's athleticism and receiving abilities would complement our corps well since we already have two good blockers in Bennett and Phillips. Deon Anderson is oft injured and a one trick pony. If John Phillips can show he can take over Anderson's role then that would open up a roster spot for someone else.
WR: Austin, Dez Bryant, Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Kevin Ogletree,
Crayton is a victim to a talented receiving corps, and as a result his role will be very limited this year. I'm guessing we'll keep him in hopes that someone will make us a good offer before the trade deadline. Hudgins is a talented record breaking UDFA who may force the team to keep 6 receivers.
OT: Free, Colombo, Alex Barron, Brewster
OG: Davis, Kosier, Holland,
C: Gurode, Travis Bright
The young'uns as well as McQ have been rather unimpressive thus far. I don't see 10 NFL roster worthy linemen in this training camp, so the Cowboys will settle for 9 OL.
Defense: 26
NT: Rat, Josh Price-Brent
DE: Olshansky, Spears, Hatcher, Bowen, Sean Lissimore
Siavii could still make the team if the coaches aren't confident in Price-Brent. Sean Lissimore got by in college on his superior athleticism and strength. He'll have to show the coaches that he can develop his game if he wants to make the roster.
OLB: Ware, Spencer, Butler, Brandon Williams, Curtis Johnson
ILB: James, Brooking, Sean Lee, Jason Williams, Stephen Hodge
Hodge is the wild card here. He supposedly has good coverage skills and special teams ability. He could force the team to keep an extra ILB, but he has to get on the field first so he can fend off Octavien for the last linebacker spot.
S: Sensebaugh, Mike Hamlin, Barry Church*
FS/CB: Alan Ball, Akwasi Osuwu-Ansah
CB: Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Bryan McCann*
A cheaper Barry Church replaces Watkins who has maxed out his potential with this team. Is Cletis Gordon really that much better than the rookies, whom still haven't tapped their potential? I don't think so. Thus it comes down to either McCann or Wall. I'm going to give it to McCann. I just think he has more potential as a CB than Wall (especially with his 4.35 speed), but if coaches want a better special teamer they'll go with Wall.
Special Teams:3
LS: L.P. Ladoucer
K: Buehler
P: McBriar
Can Buehler be more than a kickoff specialist? One of the biggest questions this training camp.
7 man Practice Squad:
WR: Terrell Hudgins*
FB/H-back: Chris Gronkowski*
CB: Teddy Williams*
CB: Jamar Wall
OT: Sam Young
RB: Lonyae Miller*
OG: Mike Tepper*
A lot of interesting prospects here:
- I really like Mike Tepper, but he needs a year to remake his body, which was my biggest concern going into the draft.
- Lonyae Miller is an underrated RB who had to live in Ryan Mathews shadow in college.
- Teddy Williams is blazing fast but very raw since he hasn't played football since high school. But you got to give the Cowboys props for thinking outside the box. Who else would think to unfreeze a baseball great from cryogenic suspension to play cornerback?

very nice, quincyyyyyyyyyyyy
I like that you made the roster fit the talent instead of forcing the talent to fit the roster. You make a compelling case. I agree with you about the OL, but I suspect we may see another Holland / Barron style trade for a 10th NFL ready lineman before the cut to 53.

Few things
One, you might want to count again I only count 25 players on defence.
Two, the practice squad limit is 8 so there is an empty spot there.
Other than that I basicly have the same thing except I have Dixon over Leissemore, Gordon over McCann and Hodge on PUP to start with Johnson taking his place (apparently the guy really knows how to rush the passer) and the extra spot your missing going to Hurd for special teams reasons.
I tend not to predict practice squad because you never know who will get claimed off waivers but I would like for Titus Ryan to make it (pet cat)
fixed it Thank you
and I’m pretty sure the practice squad is just 7 players.
2009 BTB Fantasy Champ... Deal with it
It's 8

Added CuJo over Octavien?
Was this for pure talent? Do you think Octavien’s ST play will factor in?
Ich bin ein Berliner--JFK
I prefer Octavien personally.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Octavien
is a bit of a tweener, they’ve moved him inside and outside so much it seems like he doesn’t have a position. Johnson is at least a situational pass rusher that is why I kept him. If the team only wants special teams I would go with Octavien.

I like Octavien because of that versatility
and I actually think he isn’t a terrible option as a backup OLB (#4 or #5 guy). And like you say, he is clearly the better ST player. That is why I like him.

I think it interesting that you put Brewster as a OG when he's getting reps a RT
do you think that he will be moved before camp is over?
I actively recognize my own stupidity, thank you!!!
Also I do agree with the rest for the most part I think WR will be up in the air as far as 4th to possibly 6th spots
and the 4h corner will be hard to determine
I actively recognize my own stupidity, thank you!!!
WR
I keep hearing the media talking about Bryant taking Williams spot. I don’t think they are are really going for the same spot. I think the coaches want Austin, Bryant , and Williams on the field at the same time. I’d say Crayton is the guy who’s spot is getting taken.
Hmmmm
I mainly agree.
I’d be a little sad to see Sam Hurd go. I think he’s a dependable 3rd or 4th WR and a good special teams player.
AFB Condensed- New name, same flavor.
Quoting yourself doesn't require your own name attached to it. I'm going to assume if there isn't anyone else's name attached it's yours.
I guess you've fallen back on your Spears will be gone stance.

that would be pretty ridiculous
after they said they wouldn’t be willing to trade him

If you really can't see that's a different situation than I don't know what to tell you.
Spears is already in training camp, he’s getting paid nickels, he isn’t a lockerroom disturbance, and etc. etc. etc.
Why would you cut a guy if you wouldn’t even trade him? Unless he would be 5th on the depth chart that makes no sense.

I'll believe it when I see it.
I know that there are things that happen that go against what they say. You don’t have to tell me that.
I just don’t buy it. The would have to be someone that just had a monsterous camp to knock him off.

I would've agreed with you a couple days ago.
But, Hatcher’s injury bug has cropped back up again. That has to make them think twice about getting rid of a reliable, proven starter at DE…even if he’ll likely never be described as dominant or flashy.
Lissemore is injured and didn’t seem to be really impressing before he got hurt. Broaddus or MacMahon, can’t remember which, was saying during the live blog that it looks like Lissemore has only the bull rush in his repetoire of moves at this point. That spells Practice Squad to me.
Rabid and luvin' it
Holley currently last on my WR rankings
WR
Miles Austin
Roy Williams +1 strong camp
Dez Bryant -1 injury
Patrick Crayton
Kevin Ogletree
Sam Hurd
Manuel Johnson +1 surging
Terrell Hudgins +1 potential
Titus Ryan +1
Jesse Holley -4 long odds
I see Wall making it because
he brings something to the Corner Backs thats lacking other wise, size and strength
I don’t see Stephen Hodge making it, he hasn’t played football in a year, nor in the NFL. Hodge may literally be battling Patrick Watkins to be the go to gunner, special teams tackling ace
Trade Candidates
Spears, Crayton, Hurd, Sensabaugh, L.Davis, Kosier, Holland + at least 3 LBs in the wings that are going to play somewhere.
They’re not all going to find value or happen but some of the these guys should go. Some due to depth but others are just overrated. The o-line is a core weakness.
Hudgins, Holley, Dixon could be on this roster. Get some draft picks and shop for some more interior lineman. Why don’t they bring Brewster inside? I thought Young did o.k. when he made contact.
