Timothy Tebow's Contract

I heard it was actually less money than Dez Bryant's unless he hits a lot of career milestones, but the fact that they announced it as a 33 million dollar contract made me laugh uncontrollably for a good five minutes.

The only reason this is mildly Cowboys' related is because Tim wanted to hold out and make sure he got more guaranteed money in his deal, but I think he wound up getting a worse deal anyways because the Cowboys are going to want to lock up Dez if he is what we think he is(!) - and allow him to renegotiate his terms before the contract expires.

Whereas Tebow is going to be left out in the dust after McDaniels gets fired from Denver (LMAO). I mean I think the guy can play football for sure, and I hope he does well in his career; but I'd be more surprised if he's a pro bowl caliber QB than if he was another career bard like so many QBs in the NFL.

Also,

does anybody know the specific terms of the contract? I don’t know if they’ve been published yet.

by G_SWAG on Jul 30, 2010 5:06 AM CDT reply actions

Here's what I saw
The deal is reportedly worth $33 million over that time frame with $8.7 million guaranteed per Michael Lombardi. Tebow was the 25th selection in April’s draft after a four year career at Florida in which he became one of the most popular and successful male athletes in the entire world.

Tebow’s acquisition means the Broncos have only one draft pick left unsigned, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. At last word, Thomas’ deal was making great progress and there is a chance it could also be finalized Thursday.

**UPDATE**Tebow deal reportedly worth $11.25 million over five years, but can escalade to $33 million with specific incentives and accomplishments.

Awful? Really...

His numbers, wins and championships make him IMHO the undisputed best college football player of all time.

What he does in the nfl remains to be seen, but I think it’s a stretch to call him awful…Just saying

I think there should be a difference in what how he is presented.

“best college football player of all time” should be replaced with “most accomplished football player of all time”

He has the best career of any college QB and he provided a dimenson from a QB that nobody else ever had, but I have a problem with him being considered the best player of all time because he wasn’t even the best player on his whole team.

Percy Harvin was a IMO a better player, and had as much impact on the Gators as Tebow.

I’d even argue that as far as pure talent, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Calvin Johnson were bigger freaks of nature.

This is by no means saying he was an aweful college QB, because he might be the most decorated of all time, I just don’t think he’s the best.

He'll never see the $33 M anyway

PFT reports that

To get close to all that money, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tebow will “have to make Peyton Manning look like a fool.”

Tebow’s deal is a $11.25 million contract, of which $8.7 million are guaranteed. The remaining $21.75 million are theoretically available through incentives.

Dez’s deal is $11.8 million, of which $8.3 million are guaranteed. Another $3.185 million is available through a “likely to be earned” bonus.

He ran for a TD and threw for a TD and rushed for 39 yds as a true freshman.

He was also the teams second leading rusher that year. He had a big role. I see no reason why he couldnt have QBed the whole game.

Im coming off a Tebow crusader and thats not the case. I went to LSU and have little love for the Gators. Tebow was resonsible for all 3 TDs that beat LSU his freshman year. I have a healthy dislike for him right off the bat and it didnt get any better with them beating us again.
He was born while his parents were on a missionary to the phillpines. He was home schooled so his parents could continue to teach their christian beliefs. I dont think its an agenda. He does actually live the life he preaches.
Al Gore getting rich off of enviromentalism and preaching about CO2 emissions while he is cruising around in a personal jet with 3 people on board is more of my idea of a guy with an agenda.
Thats just my take.

Having an Agenda is not necessarily a bad thing.

Using your examples, Tebow and Gore both have agendas. The difference is that Gore is a hypocrite about his agenda, while Tebow, by all appearances lives according to his principles.

First of all, Florida would have won that game with or without Tim Tebow.

Just because the dude jump-passed a few balls that year hardly makes him an integral part of the team.

Just out of curiosity, when discussing Bernie Kosar how many times would you bring up his championship with the Dallas Cowboys? Or how about Drew Bledsoe’s championship with the Patriots?

And the line was Florida by 5.5, according to Vegas. But the loss really wasn’t on Tebow as much as his receivers getting a case of the Roy Williamses, and the defense having no answer to the mid-range passing game.

I have 2 young boys(10 and 7) outside of myself and family, can think of no better role model. An honest, hardworking man true to his convictions. I dont know if he will win in pro football but in the game of life he is winning.

Possibly

Or possibly Marty Mcfly went back and changed the past

Quoting yourself doesn't require your own name attached to it. I'm going to assume if there isn't anyone else's name attached it's yours.

I'm rooting for him

Cause I think he’s a good guy. However, rooting for him and expecting him to succeed are two different things.

At best he's a backup in the NFL.

The boys in Denver got caught up in the hype. This kid will never be ready for prime time IMO.

There's a difference in bagging on Tebow because he's corny and crapping on his faith.

Besides I didn’t know Troy Aikman or John Elway were Pagan warlocks just because they weren’t vocal about whatever their beliefs happen to be. Tebow is polarizing because to some he does come off as a two-dimensional character out of some sappy Disney movie. The speech after the Ole Miss game? While he was definitely sincere more cynical bastards could take it as grandstanding. You mean you weren’t practicing as hard as you possibly could before the loss to Colonel Reb, Timmy? Frackin slackass. Certainly his faith has a great deal to do with that but if I want to take a harmless potshot at him and his guy friend for wearing matching Miami Vice threads at his draft party I don’t think that’s out of bounds.

The fact that his skillset as a QB is so hard to project to the NFL and the fact that he’s so adamant he’s the real deal is the key ingredient for the perfect storm of things necessary to make him such a polarizing figure.

The only belief that matters on the field, of course, is the belief that you have to win and nobody has more of that than Timmy. That’s fine but he’s long ways off from being an NFL-caliber starting QB. Also the harsh reality is that I could see Tebow believing he can truck NFL linebackers running out of the Wildcat just as easily as he did in college. If he’s not careful with that type of mindsets concussions could pile up in a hurry.

The relationship to the Cowboys is, the way the media was ready to jump all over Dez Bryant if HE held out, but nothing was made of the Tebow holdout.

Media bias. Otherwise, who cares? The guy will join the ranks of Ryan Leaf and Akili Smith as an alltime worst draft pick.

Pessimists say the cup is half-empty, while optimists say it's half-full. Well, isn't it both? Realist Larry, 2009

No way, those guys were both top 5 picks, maybe top 3

I think he will flop, but given where he was drafted, he won’t even make the Top 20 of All Time Drat busts

I'm Glad We're a Team With Real Talent

That can rely on winning games to be popular, instead of bringing in a sort of “freak show” to draw attendance.

Denver knows it’s not going to be winning any superbowls, so instead they’re building their team around something flashy and unique but ultimately will be nothing better than average.

They need to be different to draw crowds, which is why they’re playing up Timmy.

So you're calling Tebow a freak show?

What’s the matter did he perform a circumsision on you?

Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman
