Around SBN: NFL Safety Ryan Clark's Motivational Workout

We're certainly not a team desperate for cornerbacks at this point in time and I'm willing to admit that there's all of 0% chance of it happening... But what if the Jets decide to trade Darrelle Revis because he won't lower his apparently outrageous demands?

It's always fun to imagine what could be, though. Terence Newman, Darrelle Revis, and Mike Jenkins as the top three corners on our team? Yes please.

I had this same conversation with my family last night.

Basically we talked about what would you trade to NY to get Revis. I wasn’t necessarily thinking in realistic terms but I was thinking about how awesome it would be to create that secondary. Personally, I think I could live with trading two first rounders. I know that might be blasphemous to many but with that trade Dallas would have the two best defensive players in the league in my opinion with Revis and Ware to go alongside rising stars in Spencer and Jenkins.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

I don't know about two 1st rounders...

But a first and third? That would definitely be worth considering.

I don't think Revis is going anywhere.

Both sides are playing hardball right now. The Jets need him and he ain’t going to sit out. When is the last time you saw a player sit out a season over a contract?

I know it seems improbable

But it’s just fun to imagine, isn’t it? Our defense would immediately be considered one of the most dominant in the league because of the depth at ALL positions and the super star power at the major positions.

Revis' uncle or someone he's related to sat out

That’s prob who he’s listening to… He sat out a year then got traded

I don’t want him on the cowboys… Let’s cry about making a million dollars a year, even when we know he’s going to get paid big next year… Give me a break… A lot of people are lucky to have made a million dollars over their lifetime…

I have no problem with him trying to get his money.

The Jets will have no problem letting him go if he has a career ending injury. He’s the best CB in the NFL, he should be paid. These early 1st rounders are siging huge contracts and have never played a down in the NFL. More power to him. If he played for Dallas, Jerry would damn well pay him and so should the Jets.

by DIRE WOLF on Aug 10, 2010 4:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

Revis has 3 years left on his contract. Jerry hasn’t paid Miles Austin yet. He’s playing on a one year tender and keeping quiet about it. What about Mike Jenkins and Jay Ratliff? They have as much right to holdout and be malcontents as Revis based on their performance and what they make. Getting Revis and bowing to his demands would ruin the whole dynamic of our team and is a horrible idea.

by b roo on Aug 12, 2010 2:59 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

yeah but Miles, Mike and Jay aren't considered the BEST at their position

Revis is the BEST at his position and he wants the money. I agree with him

really?

Maybe in TN.

You can defn say Rat is the best 3-4 NT

Really?! Really?!

The Jets have a choice.

Pay him or trade him. Or they can call his bluff and see if he will really sit out. Football is different than basketball or baseball his contract is not guaranteed. He is the best CB in the league, if he goes down with a caree ending injury he’s out of luck. Austin has only been a top WR for one year and he will get his money if he does it again this year. Jenkins is up and coming, but not a Revis, yet. If Rat has another pro bowl year he will probably rattle Jerry’s cage for more money. The three most important positions on a team IMO are QB, LT and CB. I’ve never understood why owners will pay a 1st round draft choice huge money, but when it comes to paying a player taken in the later rounds that becomes great, they balk. There are plenty of teams that are willing to pay for his services. Trade him, the Jets will get some very good draft choices they can pay big money for and hope the players are nearly as good as Revis.

bottom line

we don’t need these malcontent prima donnas who assume they are the best in the league and hold out to demand being paid the most for their position. Seriously, would anyone want Revis in Dallas being paid more than Romo, Rat, Witten and Ware…not to mention while Miles is still hanging out there?? that has to be one of the most locker room ruining dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard of.

by b roo on Aug 13, 2010 9:51 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Jerry paid Deion like a QB and won a 3rd SB.

I think players know how it works and don’t care if it make them a much better team. The Jets have choices, read the last sentence in my previous post.

by DIRE WOLF on Aug 14, 2010 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

salary cap

will probably come back in new CBA. That Deion deal put us in bad cap position and was part of what led to our decade long drought. Bad drafting, too. Revis wants more than the ridiculous deal the Raiders did for Asomugha. I don’t want JJ outdoing Al Davis in bad contracts. We’ll see, maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think the Jets do have a choice. Nobody is going to outdo that Raider contract.

by b roo on Aug 16, 2010 6:21 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

I never said I want the Cowboys to trade for him.

Someone will pay him big money and give up good draft choices to get the best CB in the league. If the NYJ don’t want the problem child, they have plenty of outs IMO. As for out doing the Raider contract, I think he is willing to negotiate a lesser contract to get a big payday. I don’t know how much is guaranteed money and how much is funny money for Asomugha.

From Rotoworld website

Contract Information for Nnamdi Asomugha

2/19/2009: Signed a three-year, $45.3 million contract. The first two years, totaling $28.6 million, are fully guaranteed. Another $4.7 million is available through incentives. To keep Asomugha through 2011, the Raiders must pay him either the franchise number for quarterbacks that year OR $16.875 million, whichever number is greater. If the club fails to exercise the option, Asomugha cannot be franchise tagged and will become an unrestricted free agent. 2010: $755,000 (+ $8 million roster bonus due 3/5 + $7.83 million option bonus due 3/19), 2011: $2.105 million (Club Option), 2012: $3.455 million (Voidable Years), 2013: $4.805 million, 2014: $6.155 million, 2015: Free Agent

by b roo on Aug 16, 2010 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions

In effect about 29 million is guaranteed.

That’s crazy money, but WRs and QBs get those kind of deals, why not CBs. Like I said I wouldn’t do it if I were Jerry, but I think someone in the league will. Look what Washington is paying Fat Albert and what Jerry is paying RW. If indeed he is going to sit out and the NYJ aren’t willing to pay him, they can trade him for a player"s" under contract and or draft choices. He’s a proven player, top 10 draft choices are expensive and a big risk.

you wouldn't think what PT Barnum said

would apply to NFL owners but apparently it does. I don’t care what anybody else does I just don’t want our ‘Boys making those kind of mistakes again. It seemed like this thread was directed towards Dallas making this deal which I’m against. I like our team dynamic now where there’s plenty of guys that are setting aside their “me first” attitude for the benefit of the team.

by b roo on Aug 16, 2010 1:21 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

i've been thinking of this as well

but just like a dream haha , i think wont happen, and if so, what would you trade for revis?

by ratware on Aug 10, 2010 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

You know...

I think you could probably get away with packaging Scandrick and a first and mid round pick. But I’d hate to lose that guy. Odds are some desperate team will pull a Chicago and give away the next two drafts for him if the Jets decide they can’t make it work.

by Ekijoh on Aug 10, 2010 10:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Scandrick Marty B 1st 3rd

anyway anyone think maybe we could use Pacman right about now?
he looked pretty good

jk i cant stand him but he does look like he could be solid for the Bengals
looks really fast again
i’ll take Scandrick over him tho

by Archie Barberio on Aug 11, 2010 8:42 PM CDT reply actions

I wouldn't trade anything

Revis might be the very best but we’re well stocked at CB, lets not bring in a rent a talent, ala PAc Man Jones a couple years ago.

Revis is better than Jones, yes, but we have a lot of money tied up already to be bringing in a big contract like Revis

by AustonianAggie on Aug 12, 2010 2:35 PM CDT reply actions

The Pacman and Revis comparison...

Isn’t really warranted. I can understand it – they’re both young guys, but Revis is on a whole different level than Adam Jones. Jones keeps getting in trouble with the law and Revis wants the money that everyone in the FO of the Jets said he deserved before this holdout began. If they hadn’t said that he was going to be paid, it’s possible that this wouldn’t be an issue. On the other hand, Pacman Jones was behaving like an idiot and the Cowboys took a low-risk flyer on him.
