The Problem With The Running Game

I have been frustrated with Garrett’s play-calling, especially the over-utilization of the draw play as the running game offset to the passing game. I could not figure out why one of the biggest offensive lines in the league cannot just line up and impose their will on the defense with basic running plays. I think I have the answer: the Cowboys offensive line’s run-blocking technique (with the exception of maybe Doug Free) is pitiful! They do not come off their stance low and with leverage – if you stop and think about it, in a draw running play you allow the defensive line to take their pass rush lanes and then continue to push them that direction and allow the back to pick the hole. In essence, you can “big body” shield them out and not execute a standard block – and the worst of the bunch is Leonard Davis. I have been hard on Brewster, but he actually outplayed Davis in the San Diego game.
