4 year Safety Patrick Watkins has been notified by the Cowboys organization that he will be officially released either today or tomorrow.
Watkins, a 5th round draft pick in 2006 by the Boy's, has been a solid contributor on Special Teams and has started 10 games for the Cowboys.

Saw the handwriting on the wall for this one.
Patrick was a good special teamer but not outstanding. He will be replaced fairly easily. Good luck Mr. Watkins, we never knew ya.

Saw this one coming a mile away. At least by doing it now instead of next week he has a chance of landing somewhere. Miami, anyone?

i knew this was coming as well, he just didn’t have the consistancy to be a back up let alone a starter. I really like McCray and Church as possible replacements

I think the clock may be fast running out for players from the class of 2006 who haven’t made the starting roster yet, if only because there are some younger guys in camp who today look like they might have a higher ceiling.
06 players who may be on the bubble for exactly that reason (Bobby Carpenter is gone already): Jason Hatcher, Pat McQuistan, Sam Hurd, Pat Watkins and Stephen Bowen. Then again, could one of these players become this year’s Miles Austin (also from the class of 2006)?
