Should We Sign Stewart
The Raiders released TE Tony Stewart today.
Since Phillips went down, the Cowboys have a need for a 3rd TE.
Should we sign Stewart?
He is a solid player and excellent on special teams, but he missed much of the preseason with an ankle injury.
Assuming he is healthy, should the 'Boys give him a tryout?
What do you think?
Do we need a 3rd TE? Should we stick with what we have? Who else might be available you would bring in?

No
I honestly hope they keep “Ski” as the third TE. He’s been getting a ton of first team reps at F-Back, and I have never been a big Deon fan.
If the Cowboys lose to McNabb in Week 1, I am drinking myself into a coma.
I kind of like the idea of rolling with two TEs and two fullbacks
Gronkowski, I believe it was, looked pretty sharp playing with the first team. Deon Anderson probably stays on the roster regardless because he’s one of the better special teams players.
Really glad to see MartyB playing with a chip on his shoulder. It was a bummer losing Phillips for the season, but it looks like Martellus may actually pick up the slack this season.
Epic Fail since 1985
pick up the slack?
the slack of who, I hope you dont mean philips because there was no slack to pick up.
Anyway we roll with two TE’s and two fullbacks. In reality the 3rd TE would of been a hybrid Fback anyway and I think ski fits that bill
Really?! Really?!
I think he means that Marty B will fill the talent void
left by the loss of Phillips.

there was nothing loss by phillips
Marty B was and still the number 2TE and when you are behind jason witten and have miles austin type wr with 3 Great Rbs there isnt much left to do
Really?! Really?!
This seems to be the direction the team is going
The terminology seems a bit inadequate. I suppose Gronkowski can be counted as a fullback or H back, with more flexibility than Anderson. Judging from his play against Houston, he can handle both roles better than Anderson, who I would guess would be a pure fullback, so there will possibly be plays when both Deon and Ski are on the field.
Or not. I am no expert.
The new mantra: No more injuries. No more injuries. Everybody now: NO MORE INJURIES!
Audition
I like the Gronkowski experiment.
If we pick up a 3rd TE, what happens when Phillips gets back? He hits the street, that’s what happens to him. Philips is everything we could want out of a TE3 and more. No replacement has a chance of making the roster in 2011.
But this team has desired more out of its fullback position for years. Anderson is strictly a lead blocker. He can’t run the ball, he can’t catch the ball. All he can do is lead block.
If Gronkoswki can prove himself every bit the lead blocker Anderson is and more vertisitle, than he can win a roster spot in 2011 and improve this offense.
By keeping Gronkowski, we are giving up a full 16 games to prove he deserves to be a Cowboy for life.

Looks like Gronk and Cricket as FB's
And Witten and MartyB as TE’s for now. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cowboys pick up another TE after the next wave of roster cuts (unless they really like Rucker).
Maybe they keep Gronk as the main FB, cut Cricket and add 2 more TE’s, also a possibility.
Tony Stewart looks like a blocking TE, and says in Lindy’s 2010 preview “player-rep and respected locker room presence” nothing about ST, and he has to be able to contribute there.
Thank you #22, for everything you did for the Cowboys. There will never be another one like you.
Hell to the No Man
We are sweating roster spots as is.
We will have to let talent chance slipping through to the PS
why steal a spot from home grown talent too pick up cast offs?
