Marcus Spears (knee) and Alex Barron (finger) injured at practice today.
From ESPN:
Starting defensive end Marcus Spears suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee with about 20 minutes left in Thursday's practice. Spears is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks and his status for the season opener against Washington on Sept. 12 is in question.
Jason Hatcher, who is playing with a hyperextended elbow, is likely to move into the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, swing tackle Alex Barron sustained a dislocated left pinky finger at the end of practice. Barron is questionable for the Cowboys' first preseason game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals in Canton, Ohio.

Spears tweets...
I’m good everybody! Don’t be sad for me I’m coming back better and stronger minor setback for a major comeback! I’m in Gods hands

could be worse
spears isn’t a guy who needs the reps like our young lbs or dez. And we have reliable depth at de.
Barron’s injury shouldn’t be a big deal this far from the regular season.
Plus they can wrap that into one of those club-style casts if needed.

I was trying to avoid that
brings back the awful memories of Flo in the arizona game in 08.
Those things are fun to play in though. I remember breaking my arm in junior high and playing a pickup game of football. Some kid tackled me and ended up with checker marks on his forehead.
Agree
Injuries are never good, but at least this one isn’t serious, and opens up reps to the younger guys. The silver lining here could be the increased chances allow the youngsters to stand out, or on the flip side, see who doesn’t look so good.
Thank you #22, for everything you did for the Cowboys. There will never be another one like you.
Well now we find out for sure if Bowen/Hatcher et al can handle the position or not.
Get well soon, Marcus! And no I’m not one of those that has wanted to get rid of him.
bad news.
im thinking we might just see how good a job spears does for us, when hes not in there.
Davie Wilson
how bout them cowboys!!!
Geez. I hope they're getting the injuries out of the way now and have a
way healthier regular season.
Better now than the last week of camp
It does sound like Dez and Spears will likely be ready for the regular season. And nobody is out for most of the season, like it seemed the whole rookie class was last year.
Come after my cigars, and we will then be discussing my second amendment rights
Dez is the only one that really stings
Lissemore, Lee, and AOA missing a good part of camp sucks, but they’ll get enough reps in the games. They’ll have their chances to grow in this league.
Alex Barron can practice through his injury.
Spears sucks, but it sounds like he’ll be back for the regular season. And, if you put a gun to my head and said I had to pick one starter to go down and miss 6 weeks, I’m not sure Spears isn’t the one I’d pick considering how deep we’re at at his position. And Spears knows this defense, he doesn’t need this camp to be ready for the regular season – he’s going to be ready to go.
After Sunday we’ve got 4 weeks and 4 games to go — so we’re going to see more injuries, that’s just the nature of the game. But, so far, things are okay. We just have to avoid the sledge hammers that the Broncos and the Ravens got smacked with. As long as all of our starters are ready to go on week 1, it’s a good training camp.
Yep.
Even with Dez being out a few weeks.
WR and DE two positions with good depth.
I think, besides QB, the worst hit would be if Jay Ratliff went down. I even think that Ware’s blow would be lessened with Spencer on the other side, but Ratliff would be hoooooorible.
AFB Condensed- New name, same flavor.
Quoting yourself doesn't require your own name attached to it. I'm going to assume if there isn't anyone else's name attached it's yours.
I wonder what would happen...
if Roy W. went down for a few weeks. Even with Dez missing time, does Roy get his position back when he gets back?
