CBSSports.com Presents Fantasy Football Projections (K)
CBSSports.com is SB Nation's fantasy football partner. SB Nation has a deal with CBSSports.com offering their Fantasy Football Commissioner leagues at half-price. If you're interested in purchasing a league for the price of $90, make sure you do it through this link so BTB gets the credit. You get lots of cool features with the league.
This week's projections concern the kickers. According to the CBSSports.com projections, they see the David Buehler as the #9 kicker with 25 out of 29 FGs made and 48 XPs.
That seems a little generous for a kicker who is new to FGs/XPs in the NFL. Of course, part of that projection is based on the Cowboys offense, which should, I said should, be one of the higher scoring units in the NFL. Half the battle for a fantasy kicker is having a unit that will get him in position to convert scoring opportunities. He should have that with Dallas this year. But, as we all know, the question is: Can he convert those chances? I wasn't thrilled with what I saw at training camp practices, but in the pre-season games he seems to be doing all right. His kicks look to be getting better, although the Cowboys offense isn't giving him many chances to get in some 'game situation' kicks.
A #9 projection for Buehler seems too high, but we know the kid has the leg to hit from almost any distance. It's all about the accuracy. If he can nail that down, then he should be one of the better fantsy kickers in the league.
Your verdict?
Consider this an open thread to discuss Fantasy Football.

good bye-week sub
otherwise, risk is not exactly what I’m looking for from the kicker position, real life or fantasy
I'll take him if he is there in the 15 or 16th round
my gripe with him is his bye week is too early.I’m thinking take a kicker that has a bye in week 10 so I can go with one kicker and replace whoever gets injuried on my team with a kicker later.

Good call on the bye week. Didn't even think of that.
That could ensure that if somebody has, they may have to drop him then to make room to pick up a Week 4 replacement.
Squish.

K is such a crap shoot
you could practically pick a K at random each week out of the top 15 or 20 and probably not do a whole lot worse than trying to pick the best one so I like grabbing Buehler as my K as a kind of homer pick, especially if I don’t have any other Boys on my team. I just got him in an auction draft yesterday. An early bye means you have to rotate him out early and hope no one grabs him for the week, but then just ride him for the rest of the season as long as he’s doing a decent job.
If he can show any consistency, Buehler does have the attributes that one might look for in a good fantasy K:
- 11 games in domes, I think
- strong leg, will try some 50+ kicks worth bonus points
- high powered offense that has struggled in the red zone, should give him opportunities
As a Boys fan that pulled his hair out last season b/c of our kickers,
I would take 25 out of 29 FG’s in a heartbeat.
I have seen no evidence that there's any method to picking kickers
It’s so random year to year and game to game.
Last year Nate Kaeding with San Diego was #1 and New Orleans’ John Carney ranked 20, behind even Nick Folk.
Even worse, Indianapolis’ Matt Stover ranked 31st!
There’s no method to it.
