Food for Thought
I would like to precede this post by saying I have had a very emotional night, and apologize if this is not the correct outlet to express my thoughts on the topic. In my opinion it directly impacts not only the sport we all know and love, and our favorite team, but it affects our privelage to even be on this blog freely discussing our opinions. If this is not welcome here I will remove it, or a mod can take it down if they don't view it appropriate.
Ok, well as I said I just got home from a very emotional experiance. Tonight I flew to the tiny little town of Dover Delaware where I visited Dover Air Force Base. It was tonight that I saw 11 of my brothers come home from overseas. Unfortunately, they are no longer with us. I was there to participate in the receiving ceremony of our fallen heroes. As I gently rested my fingertip to the edge of my cover at each passing casket, and looked upon weeping family members I went into a deep period of reflection.
A lot of us, including myself, take a lot of things for granted. It was those servicemen, and the many before them that granted us our freedom. They gave their lives so we can wake up and turn on the computer, log into a blog and talk about sports. It's seldom if ever that I've been debating Cowboys vs. whatever and thought about what allows me to do that.
Basically the point I am trying to convey is that it would be a very simple yet meaningful gesture if at some point during this football season each of us take a moment to pray for (or just think about) those individuals and their families for the sacrifice they made so we could do the simple day to day things. Whether you're at the game or watching from your living room take a moment to thank the fallen heroes for the game we all love.
Cheers, and Semper Fidelis

I was lucky
I served my time in a period of relative peace.
But I lost a few comrades. For one I was a part of the funeral in San Antonio.
I cried when the missing man formation flew over.
I bawled when Taps played.
To all my brothers and sisters who gave all – I grieve your loss, and have such enduring gratitude for you and your families.
For all who serve – stay alert, fight ferociously when you have too, please come home safely.

And Jeremiah, there is no bad time or place for something like this.
Carry them in your heart always.

No but seriously. In todays day an age I dont think people overlook why they get to do things. “Soldier awareness” is at its highest point since probably ww2. There are yellow ribbons everywhere. The local national guards have most likely been over recently. Everyone moslty like knows someone who knows of someone who is in the military now and/or went overseas.
Maybe they dont think about it everyday but if given a poll it would be in favor of the soldiers. Also the NFL is always remember/honoring vets during pregame. The flybys are great too. Lastly the American anthem and looking at the American Flag. Just look around for a moment during the song you will see the expressions on peoples face and realize they know what it means and is grateful for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
I get you had an emotional time, I hear ya nothing is worse then seeing empty boots, but dont underestimate the American people. Its not the 60’s, America loves their soldiers just ask Toby Keith.
Really?! Really?!
I know the country is strongly pro military at the moment.
I agree polls would show that, but I feel like it’s geared towards the people that currently serve and not those who are not with us anymore. That is my point. I’m not saying you shouldn’t thank someone for their service, but I don’t think people reflect as much as what you think they do. That’s just my opinion. Also, it isn’t just about the fallen servicemember, but the family. I probably would have agreed with you a week ago, but when I really thought about it and talked with others, we unanimously didn’t think about it as often as any of us would like.

Much better now than Viet Nam.
They didn’t cheer the boys coming home as a matter of fact they booed us a lot of the time. So many were dying that a lot came home in body bags. Even if you don’t support the war, support the troops.

The truth is
…that we should be thankful for their sacrifice EVERY DAY. Not just at some random point during the Season.
Think about them every day.
Be thankful every day.
And if you can, find some way to show you care.
Here are two great organizations that I can vouch for…
