Thanks JimmyK
It is your objectivity that makes you such a noble adversary.
BTW, how appropriate that this was put on the site by what_the_crap. His screenname pretty well serves as the best comment on the article.

I’m sure Rosenhaus will be pointing to this contract, and they may even ask for more.

Watikins took Skip Bayless' place in Dallas
as the negitive a$$hole. He has aways to go to be the jerk Bayless is, but he’s giving his best effort.

I actually agree with Watkins.
I am sold on Austin, but why rush the deal? Let him go out and further establish exactly what his value is relative to other receivers before giving him a huge contract. It’s what we did with Romo and I have to say that worked out pretty darn well.

i can see your point,
but the cowboys see him in training and have game film on austin.
they must see that it wasnt a fluke, plus hes a stand up character that isnt likely to go off the deep-end now hes got the money..

Its not about him being a fluke or not.
I think he is a very good receiver. The key is just how good is he? Is he going to continue to produce like Andre Johnson? Or is he going to fall more back to earth and be more like a Greg Jennings? Those type of distinctions are important when writing a contract. The worst case scenario would be Austin goes out and lights it up to the point that he demands a ton of money. But in that case, if Austin were really that good, would it really be that bad considering it would mean Dallas just found its easily-elite WR for the next five or so years?

Fall back like Greg Jennings?
He is considered one of the better receivers in the league. I would take Jennings type numbers, if that is the low point that Austin is going to fall to

Greg Jennings is a very good receiver. Andre Johnson is an elite receiver. There is a difference and that is all I was illustrating; I wasn’t trying to say that Greg Jennings is bad or anything like that by using the “fall more back to earth” line.

they did it with ware too
I agree I wish they would of waited to oct but oh well maybe it has something to do with the uncapped year
Really?! Really?!
If you look at the details of his contract dallas is taking advantage of the uncapped year.

Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!
cowboy 78 hit the nail on the head of the uncapped year
they had to get it done this year & his body of work against some of the best CBs in the NFL don’t equal 1 year wonders. the down side is Dallas has no protection w/ this contract or much incentives past the 2011 season & after 2 years Austin can hold out or retire w/ 20+ mil in his pocket. i’m sure they know Austin is a man of his word & i don’t look for him to do Jerry like that after they raised him from a undrafted FA. players know Jerry doesn’t mind paying & he keeps his word, unlike a lot of other GMs
Move Over Sweetness, Make A Place For Emmitt!
Austin is not a new player in Dallas
They have had this kid since the beginning and have been able to see behind the scenes at his work ethic, talent and character. Maybe they could have waited but now he will be totally focused on playing and he and Romo can chase booty in style.
Watkins sure looks like an idiot now
worst sports writer ever.
