There was a team last season that won their first game of the season in the final seconds of the game. They also had a brand new head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, made the change to the 3-4 defense, and traded their QB and got a new one. They had great success for the first part of the season, but as soon as the bag of tricks was emptied and they ran out of surprises and teams got some film of what they were doing, they quickly fell on their face. This team was the Denver Broncos.
The question I have to ask is exactly just how deep does the bag of tricks of the Redskins go? Or how long until the new smell wears off? It seems to happen every year that a team makes some big changes and has success for a while, but then people see film, study and see their tendencies and styles, adapt and then the team falls on its face or something similar.
I am not going to underestimate Mike Shanahan or really this Redskins team but I am predicting that they are this years 2009 Broncos, or just the team that starts off hot and then falls as soon as people see what they are all about. Two years in a row, our Cowboys have fallen victim to a team with a new face and not knowing what was going to come out of the gate. We'll have to wait and see if the Redskins are the real deal or just another case of the new "Mystery Team" for this season. I'm inclined to think the latter.
