So I've never written a fanpost before but the recent events surrounding this team have just driven me to a point where I feel the need to express some serious concerns about the organization.
The post game comments made by Martellus Bennett are very, VERY concerning in my eyes...
"I'm pretty frustrated. A lot of people make fun of me because I am an outgoing guy, but it is all about living in the moment. You can't think about tomorrow, the play after that, or the play before. It is all about living in the moment, and once everyone starts doing that and they realize what we are doing at that time, we will eliminate a lot of mistakes.
"I don't take anything for granted. When you are out there, you have to enjoy it and make the most out of every single play you get."
On turnovers (the Cowboys had three):
"When you lose the turnover battle, 80 percent of the teams that do, will lose the game. I don't care how good of a team you are or who you are playing against. You can bring Baylor out here and they would beat you if you had three turnovers.
"It's about taking care of the ball, which is the number one priority. And the outcome of the game is judged by hat happens to the ball."
The part that really got me was when he said "You can't think about tomorrow, the play after that, or the play before... and once everyone starts doing that and they realize what we are doing at that time, we will eliminate a lot of mistakes."
So he is basically calling the players on this team unfocused. I want everybody to take a step back and think about what is going on here... Martellus Bennett... MARTELLUS BENNETT is implying that this team is unfocused. Raise your hand if you called that one ever happening two months ago.
Something is terribly wrong here and it starts with the infrastructure of the entire organization. Our entire coaching staff has no accountability whatsoever. The OC doesn't answer to the head coach. The ST Coordinator doesn't answer to him. The OC basically does whatever the heck he wants to on offense and when he does a terrible job, there are no consequences or adjustments. We have an owner who will not let the HC discipline the players as he sees fit or make depth chart changes without his approval.
The lower level position coaches are terrific (Ray Sherman is the best WR coach in the league. Campo always gets the most out of our CBs. Herring is a great LB coach and you will never find anyone who will speak even modestly about the position work of Paul Pasqualoni). Yet our highest paid coaches, Wade and definitely Garrett, have absolutely no grasp of their duties. 4 years in the system and yet Garrett still can't get the offense to know what their doing and has them scrambling to figure out their assignments with 3 seconds left on the play clock nearly 1/3 of the offensive snaps.
The whole infrastructure in Dallas is a big huge mess and it starts at the top. It's like a brand new 5,000 square foot house with beautiful property yet no foundation below. We have no doubt one of the most talented, if not the most talented roster in the NFL. However I am beginning to have very serious concerns as to whether or not the SuperBowl window really is open for this team or if in reality we will never reach the promised land until the entire organization changes it's ways from top to bottom. And that starts with Jerry Jones.
