The team is working on an injury settlement with its former starting fullback, known to many of us as "Cricket".

Wow.

The Gronkster must be the real deal then…

very interesting...

in that this now frees up a roster spot. is an O-lineman, CB, or possible kicker lined up to take his spot?

Kicker

I hope it is a kicker.

Yea I just watched the press conference too

Does Wade look totally beat down, or am I just crazy?

Wade

Just needs to take a demotion with us. He will never be an HC again in the NFL. Why not work with the D you’ve coached for the last couple of years?

what are the chances....

that Chandler outplays Martellus Bennett in the passing game?

by beWARE94 on Sep 24, 2010 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions

He has to be active on the 45 first.

I would say not bloody likely.

you don't think he will be active?

i read that he was taking first team reps on special teams

by beWARE94 on Sep 24, 2010 12:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Dunno.

If I remember correctly, he played ST for the Chargers when Wade was there so maybe he and Joe D are gonna give the guy a spot.

Also, when Witten went out, they were down to just Marty so that could come into effect too.

woman !, dont try to understand em, dont try to make them understand you, for they are a breed apart ! lol

This is a mistake...

Deon Anderson is a better fullback than Chris Grnkowski period.

by BigD88 on Sep 24, 2010 11:35 AM CDT reply actions

Not true.

In one aspect of the job of a FB, sure. Not across the board though.

by danielt on Sep 24, 2010 11:35 AM CDT up reply actions

In two aspects, actually

Deon is a MUCH better run blocker and one of the best special teams players we had.
The ONLY thing Gronkowski has on him is “hands.”
We pass the ball with our fullback on the field maybe 5 times a game. Give me the tougher guy who can actually open up holes in the running game and be physical with LBs over the guy who will catch the ball twice a month in the flat.
Watch the games, Gronkowski gets to the LB and his legs just go dead.

by BigD88 on Sep 24, 2010 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree 88....

but he can’t stay healthy. He’s been out every year for injuries.

by beWARE94 on Sep 24, 2010 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

He's not even that good.

Injury

The injury is what makes the call I think. Too thin at FB/H-back otherwise.

by danielt on Sep 24, 2010 11:35 AM CDT reply actions

Plus

He get’s hurt every season.

Blessing in disguise.....

He couldn’t carry the load…. Couldn’t blow open big enough holes…. We’re going to be happier with ’Ski…. He is much more Darryl Johnston – prototype!

by hakrjak on Sep 24, 2010 11:38 AM CDT reply actions

What?

Gronkowski doesn’t get half the push in the running game that Deon does.
Deon is as physical a player we have on this team and as good of a special teams guy as well.
“Oh but Gronkowski can catch!” Really? With the receivers and TEs we have on this team we’re gonna sit here and try to pass the ball to our fullback?
Sorry, I’d rather get a push in critical short yardage runs than pat myselfon the back because my fullback can catch the ball.

by BigD88 on Sep 24, 2010 11:49 AM CDT up reply actions

Right, he is not good at the point of contact yet.

The running and pass catching are nice. I guess they think the blocking skills will get better with time. What happens if Gronk goes down?

Lock n Load

by DIRE WOLF on Sep 24, 2010 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

This is why

John Phillips’ injury was so critical despite being a 3rd TE. He was good at the POA when lined up in the backfield but also (obviously) was a threat at TE so the defense couldn’t key on the run when we broke the huddle.
If Gronk goes down, well, I hope you really love the shotgun.

by BigD88 on Sep 24, 2010 11:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Right Choice

I like Deon a lot. And got to meet him last year. Hate to see him go because he’s a good blocker…but he can’t stay healthy. His blocking does no good on the bench…its the right choice.

by beWARE94 on Sep 24, 2010 11:52 AM CDT reply actions

that's too bad

being from Connecticut I was routing for him. I ran into one of his college coaches at a christmas party two years ago and he said Dion was a really nice guy who loved being a Cowboy…

good luck to him..
