New Golden Age?

First Fanpost.

As we start the 2010 season I think its good to look back and see how we got to where we are now. Are we entering the 3rd Age of the Dallas Cowboys. For only the 3rd time in the history of the Cowboys we have broken .500 and been a winning ball club for 5 season. (2005-2009)

Star-divide

The only other times of such continued success is 6 season (1991-1996) and the NFL record 20 consecutive winning seasons (1966–1985) Dallas Cowboys Season Standings For parities sake the 20 seasons is a record that won't be touched because the game has evolved so much but with this core of strong veterans and upcoming young guns there is no reason why 10 seasons isn't within our grasp. The offensive setup is quite reflective of the glory years of The Triplets. We all know Aikman, Irvin and Emmitt. But between Moose, Alvin Harper and Larry Allen the offense was unstoppable much like what we expect this year and the so called experts are projecting.

Aikman - Romo

Irvin - Austin

Smith - F. Jones

Moose - Witten

A Harper - Dez Bryant

Allen - Free

Are we entering a new golden age with a mostly battletested group with explosive might of both sides of the ball or are we on the downside of our bell curve moving back toward the middle of the pack?

I beg to differ with some of your comparisons

I realize this is your first post, so don’t think I’m jumping all over you. I just don’t see all your comparisons.

Aikman – Romo. Maybe one day, but Tony has a ways to go. Perhaps comparable at this stage of their careers, but I’m not willing to sign on yet.

Irvin – Austin. I don’t think Austin will ever be the emotional leader Irvin was. Not even close. Irvin was one of the greatest competitors ever, especially at wide receiver, and his leadership may have been more important than his huge talent as a player. And nobody has ever been as good at the hidden pushoff.

Smith – F. Jones. No. Sorry. Just take durability. Emmitt was a rock. I don’t think you can really made running back comparisons, the game has changed so much. But this just doesn’t hold up.

Moose – Witten. Now this I like. The blue collar, hard working aspect. Witten gets more recognition and obviously handles the ball more, but this is a case of the role played beyond the stats. I think you have something here.

A. Harper – Dez Bryant. Uh, could we maybe see Dez play, like, one down of pro football? Actually, Dez may have the potential to exceed Harper, but as of now it is just potential. I am excited about him, but I have to temper that with the fact that it could fail to play out, or could be cut short by an injury.

Allen – Free. Uh, no, again. Allen was to Dallas O linesmen like Emmit was to running backs. Maybe the best we ever have. Free’s good, but I don’t think he’ll ever be there.

Having said that, I would love to see this be another dynasty. I think that the parts will have to be more interchangeable, however. I don’t know if it is just harder on the players, or what, but I don’t think you will see a core of players staying together and producing as well for that long. I think that five or six years is the most you will see a core group staying the same.

Now, I would love to look back in a few years and think you were genius to say this. Just don’t think it will work out that way.

But thanks for giving me a subject to write on in the wee, sleepless hours.

If at first you don't succeed - blame someone else.

I'm not meaning to imply a direct comparison

But just a reflection of having a possible top tier player at each of these positions and how it translates to continued success.

Miles Austin: Covered
Jason Witten: Covered
Roy Williams: Wide Open
Trusting Your Wide Receiver To Make The Catch: Priceless

Tap the brakes a bit.

The last time we saw the offense it was nonexistent vs. the Texans. We don’t know what this team can do yet.

Is it NFL time yet?
